I plan to provide videos on a variety of topics including cycling, bicycle repair or hacks, bicycle product reviews, sewing machine maintenance and hacks. Thank you for visiting.
Disassembly of Kenmore Sewing Machine Foot Pedals
How to disassemble three types of Kenmore sewing machine pedals. The models are left to right 6817, 6816 and 6812.
I have found that models 6816 and 6812 are interchangeable for machines that accept this type of plug.
Sometimes the cord is damaged over time. After all these pedals and their accompanying sewing machine are over 40 years old as of 2022.
Instead of buying a new non Sears replacement pedal, which is likely inferior to the original, you can repair your pedal.
There are aftermarket replacement cords available. Just check to make sure the replacement cord you purchase is a like replacement to the original cord and will fit the machine.
This video is for informational purposes only. The viewer assumes their own risk attempting any repairs and causing damages.
Thank you for watching and happy sewing.

Changing the Gear Grease on a Kenmore 158.19412 Sewing Machine
Переглядів 4,3 тис.3 роки тому
This video shows how to change the gear grease on a Kenmore 158.19412 sewing machine. This should be the same or similar set up for the 158.19411 (super high shank) and 158.19410 (low shank). This is a simple procedure that should be performed on a vintage sewing machine if the grease has never been changed. This procedure is the same for most of the Japanese built Kenmores from my experience. ...

I made this video to share my success in fixing my machine after CAREFULLY tinkering when I could not find any resources on the internet or a local ...
RavX Evo X2 Bicycle Multitool Review
Переглядів 693 роки тому
This is a review of the RavX Evo X2 bicycle multitool with 30 tools in a compact package for on the road repairs. I’m not sure this is still sold. However, I figured a review would be helpful if anyone wants to know more about this tool and it’s usefulness, as it may likely pop up on eBay or some other market place. I have had this tool for quite a few years. I purchased it to carry with me on ...

This is my review of Full Windsor’s Nutter multi-tool. This is a very nice tool to take on your bike rides. The tool has a Phillips and flat head driver bits. This is in addition to 3, 4, 5, 6, 8 hex bits. The bits can be used with or without the extension. Both the tool handle and extension have magnets so your bits will stay put. The tool also has a spoke wrench aka spoke key. The head of the...

Installing Zefal Doorback Mirror on my Brompton Folding Bicycle
Переглядів 10 тис.3 роки тому
I was looking for a solution to add mirrors to my Brompton for safety. I happened across the Zefal Doorback II mirrors. These mirrors are offered separately for the left and right side of your bike. So use care when ordering if you are only ordering one. I opted to add a mirror on both sides since I travel with my Brompton and have encountered riding on the opposite side of the road, such as in...
Brooks Ergon Grip Installation on Brompton Bicycle
Переглядів 15 тис.3 роки тому
Upgrading the stock Brompton grips for Brooks Ergon Grips. The Brooks grips are leather, though the same as the Ergon GP-1 grips. The Ergon grips are much more comfortable then the standard grips. The Brompton deserved the Brooks version. The grips do not go all the way on to the handlebars. I was able to tighten the grips so they are secure. I had to move the brake and shifter to accommodate t...
Brooks Ergon Grips GP - 1 Leather - Visual Comparison
Переглядів 10 тис.3 роки тому
This video is a visual comparison of the standard Ergon GP-1 Grips to the Brooks leather version. The grips are the same ergonomically with the only difference the leather grip area, end caps and packaging. I purchased these for my Brompton H6L to replace the standard grips which were not quite comfortable. The Brooks leather version are very nice and offer the same comfort as the standard Ergo...
Unboxing a New Brompton H6L Metallic Graphite 6 Speed
Переглядів 1 тис.3 роки тому
I was fortunate to locate this brand new Brompton from a Brompton dealer as Brompton had no inventory on their site. After several years of contemplation and owning a Sun 3 Speed Shortcut folding bicycle for several years as a folding bike trial, I knew it was time to own a "real" folding bicycle, purposely built. This 6 speed Brompton is equipped with a Shutter Precision dynamo hub, Busch Mull...

The annual "King Tide" is back in South Florida for three months of ultra high tides in the Fall. This video is a time lapse of the tide coming in at Matheson Hammock Park the morning of October 16, 2020. What is normally the sandy beach most of the year goes underwater as the tide rolls in. The term "King Tide" is a non-scientific description of exceptionally high tides. These higher than norm...

Sears Kenmore 158.17031 Models 1703 or 1803 Bobbin Winder Repair, Replacement and Retrofit
Переглядів 5 тис.4 роки тому
Replacing a bobbin winder on a Sears Kenmore 158.17031 also known as Model 1703 Lady Kenmore. This sewing machine is similar to the Model 1803 with a button on the top that engages and disengages the clutch. This vintage late 1970s machine was purchased on Ebay and arrived with a broken bobbin winder. Modern replacement bobbin winders are available for vintage Kenmore sewing machines. The compa...
Great video quality.
I wasn't even thinking about this mode, I was about to buy the Spin. These are cheaper and love how they fold in. Thanks!
Fabulous information! Thank you so much!
Hi there! I've acquired a Kenmore sewing machine secondhand - same mechanics as this machine, roughly. It was in a little bit of rough shape from the previous owner, and it wasn't feeding material at all, this adjustment helped me get it in sewing shape! I've been desperate to fix up some clothing items and apart from a tune-up, my machine is ready to go! Thanks for the instruction!
Oh my goodness thanks sooooo much!
Your innate mechanical understanding is amazing! Bravo!
Great thanks!
I have a Kenmore sewing machine suddenly machine is stop not moving like jam I put oil in side nothing happen do u have a ph in Canada toronto plz send me
How did you take the cover off?
My metal foot controller doesn’t have a screw. The wire goes into the pedal through a rubber grommet.
The foot controllers in the video are from my 3 Kenmores. There may be other models of the foot pedal different from the video. Most from this period can be opened up.
@@rfgoodman3598 mine is a ‘60s Kenmore, it has a notch and seems to grip over the other three sides of the bottom
How do you fix the older metal foot pedal with a short in it... Multiple pressing to get it to run. Please and thank you
Excellent info, thanks so much. I have a 148.15600 and was surprised to find that its feed dog adjustments are identical to the ones on your 158.1941 . These are wonderful old machines!
Thank you - so helpful!!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and expertise. Also, thanks for your clear and concise explanation; so helpful!
Thank you for the presentation on behalf of me and those who, although forgotten here, did not thank you. Thank you
Thank you so very much!. I bought a Sears Kenmore 158.17030 on ebay recently. I believe that during shipping it suffered a rough trip. The bobbin winder and spool holder arrived broken, as well as the hard plastic case. The machine is lovely and shows beautifully. I was able to get a used generic 158 model Kenmore bobbin winder replacement on ebay. The screw you described, I found at a local hardware store. I did not find a nylon washer but found a 1/4 inch metal spacer. I made the repair today. It works! I was also able to find a replacement spool holder. The machine is now working great! I could not have made the repair without your video! Thank you.
So well and clearly explained. Thank you.
Is it necessary to thread that bottom bobbin for the machine to thread or can you just thread the top and it still work?
I bought a used Kenmore 385.15343600 and the needles keep breaking hitting the base. Does anyone know what the problem could be and how do you open the door on the right of the machine….mine won’t open with just a pull. Is there a trick to it…I don’t see any buttons to push to open it.
Hi, I just bought a kenmore 158.17501 and the feed dogs won't go backwards to help feed the fabric. The 1750 machine looks a little different then the one in the video. I loosened a screw that looked like similar placement but it didnt work. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you
I've got a Kenmore model 158.19312 and when I pull the clutch out to wind up a bobbin, the needle bar continues to travel. Do I have a stuck clutch? How do I fix this?
I found your channel while surfing sewing machine issues. Imagine my surprise when I realize that you own a Brompton bike!! We have two Bromptons and absolutely love them.
The knob to lower/raise feed dogs on a 148.12181 does not perform its function. Stuck in Raise. Would someone ever purposely tighten some screw to prevent dogs from lowering?
How could I get the parts of Sewing machines 🖐🏽🖐🏽🖐🏽🖐🏽🖐🏽🖐🏽
Can the dogs on this machine be dropped?
Yes the feed dogs can be lowered on this machine. If you take off the "shoe" to access the free arm or remove the cover where you load the bobbin instead of removing the shoe, there is a lever to the left you push down to lower the feed dogs.
Yeah sometimes the fabric you are using that cause that 🖐🏽🖐🏽
What a great video! Thank you!
How do you lower feed dogs to make buttonhole

Great Video just what I was looking for, I just bought a 158.16900 it looks brand new, but I'm greasing it up to make it purr like new.
So I keep getting 'sawtoothed' stitches on most of my 158 Kenmores. I've reduced it to some extent by playing with tensions, but I'm fairly convinced that the real issue is uneven feed dog lift and perhaps some lateral movement. How do I adjust out the lateral, the 'sway?'
If your machine has a zig zag feature, perhaps the straight stitch setting is off a bit. Another possible cause is the fabric slipping or puckering based on the fabric type and weight and using the zig zag needle plate instead of the straight stitch needle plate. Sometimes the fabric can shift or be pulled below slightly if using the zig zag needle plate. Another possibility is adjusting the tension on the bobbin case.
can you use super lube as grease ? or do you only recommend tri flow
I’m not familiar with super lube brand. However, if this product is similar in nature to the tri flow I used, there should be no issues using it. Tri flow is a synthetic grease. The original grease likely was not synthetic.
Morning! I have this machine and am trying to use the buttonhole attachment. Having trouble with it as the fabric does not move through...stays in one place creating a small ball of thread. I did use it years ago and recall the attachment moving with the stitching....is that what it is supposed to do? And if so, why is it not this time? Your video is helpful.
I will try and post a video on making buttonholes on both types--flatbed and free arm machines. Depending if your Kenmore is a flatbed or free arm, the separate buttonhole mechanism is different but functions the same. The feed dogs need to be dropped or the attachment will be damaged. Install the buttonhole template in the attachment. The attachment is secured by the screw to the machine bed just beyond the needle plate and should be aligned with the sprocket on the buttonhole mechanism. Test without a needle and bobbin installed if the attachment with template moves through the cycle of the button hole you choose.
This is a great fix! What replacement bobbin winder did you use? Do you have a part number or description to look for when purchasing?
I used KM1368 and modified it as shown in the video. I could not find a bobbin winder that fits the 158.1703 or 158.1803 Kenmores. These models are identical, just the accessories packaged were different. The 1803 being more deluxe.
Hola como utilizar los accesorios de esta maquina para bordar las letra porfavor
I just found a 158.18032 for $30 incl. cabinet. So happy. Did some sewing which went fine till I ran out of bobbin thread. It would not wind the bobbin. Have cleaned and oiled all moving parts incl. clutch release button mechanism. Have a "top bobbin winder" and I think (hope) that all I need is a new tire. How do I know if bobbin winder is broken? Does it actually break in pieces? Thank you for your time
Does the bobbin winder click into place when fitting a bobbin to wind? Perhaps the tire needs replacement. These dry out and crack. Is the winder shaft frozen and doesn't turn? This can occur if not regularly oiled.
Me gustaría que fuera en Español
I just got this model second hand, and I was thinking that the feed dog might need adjusting, sometimes it has difficulty moving the fabric through. Thank you for this video
Thank you!!!!!! Just bought this. Perfect timing!
Glad I could help! This is a wonderful and reliable sewing machine. Happy sewing.
Tengo esta misma pero no la sé enhebrar
I’ll try to put up a video on this topic in the future.
Hi, I am looking for a mirror for my brompton. I was wondering if you can still roll your folded Brompton with these mirrors on them ? As the demo (nice job done) is given in the grass, I can't see if it would be possible or if the end of the mirrors would be scraping over the ground ? I intend to roll my folded brompton rather then carrying it in shops, at work, at home etc... Thanks
I upgraded the eazy wheels. However, I did notice the clearance is close particularly with the H handlebars. There are aftermarket inline skate type wheels that may elevate the bike higher in the folded position.
Oh wow. Easy to put on!
Hola tengo una kenmor modelo 1278191 no se arreglar
Thank you for your videos. They are simple, straightfowards, and very informative (exactly what we need when we are trying to figure-out how to take care of and upgrade our Brompton). :)
Thanks for the video it helped me decide to buy these. Looking forward to receiving them
Glad I could help
I have seen copper end caps but why on earth doesnt Brooks promote them?
I did not use the end caps as I installed Zefal back door mirrors on the Brompton these grips were installed on, though copper would be a nice touch.
Hi! During cycling. Will the mirror get out of vision alignment due to vibration? Especially on bumpy roads. Thanks.
Have not really encountered this issue to a great extent. Though sometimes it happens, which is ok since these mirrors were the best option for me.
👌
🙏🏻thanks
Great stuff! I have a Kenmore 158-1040 with a similarly broken bobbin winder. I've been using a different model Kenmore to wind a bobbin for it when necessary. I think this might be the one mistake Kenmore made in the design of many fabulous vintage machines. The metal is rather soft and breaks easily - strange. Anyway, you've given me the incentive to find a find a new winding assembly - if not an exact match - one that can be adapted as you did. Thank you!
it baffles me that machines that are soooo similar can be sooooo different
Agree. Kenmore's bobbin winder assembly appears to vary between the different models. Notably for the 1703 and 1803 there is no replacement aftermarket winder available. For the Kenmore 1813, which is an updated version of the 1703 and 1803 models, the bobbin winder assembly is completely different and the clutch button gone.
thanks just ordered some.
You’re going to have fun. Nice
