that wasn't the point, those expositions were placed during its climax, which isn't the usual case in stories which was why I felt those were "needless" expositions. Only in the last episode did I realize that those expositions had their payoff, which changed my mind.

@NotFillip I still don't really understand how the placement of exposition makes it so someone would take it as useless. Like, that doesn't change the fact that it is still common sense that exposition has a point (that was stated above). Placement shouldn't change that, and I would argue that having the exposition at the climax makes me humanize the characters and demons even more than if it had been placed anywhere else. The whole point of the expositions in Demon Slayer is to either showcase the demon's humanity and showcase that demons are tragic creatures, which makes you feel for this demon, despite that they've committed atrocities. Or, in the case of a human character, it's supposed to showcase their own struggles, reasons for fighting, reasons for why they are the way they are (in Muchiro's case), and things of a similar caliber to make their victory more impactful. If any of these expositions were moved elsewhere, they wouldn't have been as impactful, nor would they boost the climax (both the individual climaxes of the present situation and the final climax with Muzan) once the focus returned to the present. And considering I have seen most of the Demon Slayer fan base congratulate the writing and truly feel for the moments with the help of the extra context shows me that the placement of the expositions made sense to the majority of those who watched it. It's a writing style that you don't see often, and it is praised for how it can make you feel sympathy towards the antagonists (which isn't as easy as people think it is to do). As well as understand what makes each Hashira different and showcases why each Hashira is there. It is not the shows fault that you couldn't realize something as simple as that because everything has a point. Even what's considered "filler" boosts our understanding and caring for a character.

@@D4RTHR04CH i agree, it would have been a really powerful moment if they had implemented a “flashback” on that tragedy but what we got, i do still believe it was just enough for her character to show depth.

I was abt to say maybe they'll show it, but even in the Manga her backstory is more "told" than "shown" maybe they'll animate that part in the anime (I feel like if I say more I'll spoil)

I'd also say, demon slayer pulls off a good balance of death/losses in general for the series. It's not so stingy that it loses the impact, nor is it dished out so freely that the audience doesn't bother getting attached to the characters anymore. I'd say overall, demon slayer is exceptional with the emotional investment pay off.

I agree 100%. There are shows I've seen that are way more beloved and are generally regardly much more highly that Demon Slayer, yet I find myself deeply caring about the characters in Demon Slayer so much more.

@@WilsonWilson-d3q Sorry, plot holes was probably the wrong term. Plot armor is probably the term I'm looking for. Unlocking sun breathing and using it effectively with a knife length sword since the rest of it snapped. Surviving both getting stabbed in the stomach, falling off a train, and it being a small enough would to stop the bleeding himself with a random trick he never uses again. Inosuke somehow literally shifting his heart when stabbed through the back and being way more stable against demon poison cause he grew up on a mountain that had various poison stuff on it. Tanjiro using the thunder breathing technique to literally compensate his supposed broken foot. etc. etc. On a side note --- the story isn't finished?? (Genuine question, not sarcasm.) I thought the manga finished a while ago. Sunrise countdown arc. and then a snip of the future without demons was the end and they're all reincarnated?

@@DarkCape64 Sun breathing and why Tanjiro remembered it was explained by Shinobu to Zenitsu in ep 19. It's based on a Japanese cultural phrase. As for the other things it's a shonen anime meant for kids. You're thinking too deeply about the action stuff.

@@DarkCape64It`s shown further in the manga, but both Tanjiro and Nezuko already knew the Hinokami dance (it`s hinted in ep19 their dad was teaching them the steps) so they both knew Sun Breathing, but Tanjiro wasn`t aware it was a sword form until he connected the dots during the fight with Rui, which he lost. If he`d managed to defeat Rui, it also would have been mostly because of Nezuko`s demon blood art cause the blade was already covered with her blood when she activated it, which is why we see it basically explode when Tanjiro slices Rui`s neck (this ties back to s3 when she deliberatly sets Tanjiro`s sword on fire). In regards to Inosuke, it`s highly possible he was exaggerating and Gyutaro just missed his heart by a smidge. We won`t know, but I don`t think an author has to explain every single thing that happens. Though if I was Gotouge I would have taken that chance to say Inosuke has situs inversus, which is a condition where your internal organs are mirrored. Also he wouldn`t have survived the poison without Nezuko, so not really plot armor. Then again I personally don`t consider anything plot armor unless a dead character just shows up outta nowhere, like if Rengoku just waltzed up in s4 unharmed. Partly because I know humans can survive the craziest shit sometimes. But I do think Inosuke is meant to be low-key crazy, so him surviving whatever just fits and is an intriguing character gimmick because it`s him lol. The manga did finish, but ufo has the ability to add and subtract things from the manga so things might go differently. They´ve already excluded hints of the blue spider lily from ep 19, Zenitsu and Nezuko moments, and even added all-new scenes for the Hashira and the corpse as a whole. There are also bonus chapters they haven`t adapted, such as how Inosuke survived in the mountains and how he learned to talk. Sorry if this is very long, I`m just really invested in these two topics specifically.

Hinokami Kagura was the first example of plot armor REALLY showing but that one wasn't the worst especially because Shinobu was literally explaining it over Zenitsu's paralyzed body. Take all of these examples lightly cause like I said, it didn't make me dislike the show, it's just when I go back and think about it I think, "yeah, that's definitely b.s. even by it's own anime logic." ED Arc: Inosuke surviving the poison sickle - Zenitsu escaping rubble with godspeed - Gyutaro playing with Tanjiro instead of killing him, Uzui stopping his own heart to pause the poison but restarting it without the poison finishing him. Tanjiro escaping with zero consequences from being stabbed through his chin. Swordsmith: Tanjiro getting "inherited memories" of Yoriichi and the Hinokami Kagura / how the black / red swords work here and in final arc. (At least s1 were his own physical memories recollecting.) Kotetsu saving Muichiro by getting air through Gyokko's water prison that couldn't be stabbed through. Tanjiro using thunder breathing to MAKE UP for his busted up legs somehow. Mitsuri surviving the final attack from zohakuten before he vanishes / how QUICKLY he vanishes once the main body is dead compared to other demons which slowly vanish. (Remember how many attacks the arrow demon got off in s1 before he fully vanished?) Once again --- love the show, not hating on it, just admitting it's got plot armor that stretches beyond the laws of it's own world. Other anime with crazy plot armor at least have the laws of their world allow it such as magic / chi / chakra. DS is essentially normal humans with a slight power buff if they breathe correctly to energize their blood with the only hack on their side being the mark which has serious consequences.
