I also very much did not enjoy Emma. When Jane Austen set out to write an unlikable heroine, she fully succeeded. The only character I legitimately enjoy is Mr. Knightly. Mans is legit goated and always tells it how it is. To the book and Jane Austen's credit, though, Emma does kind of learn her lesson by the end, and the ending itself is decent. I don't think I will ever reread it however.
I absolutely agree, the characterization was almost too good at times as I genuinely couldn't stand some of them. I didn't mind Emma as much but some of the other characters were crazy.
