Welcome to April 2024 Update. This was a good month for model railroading as many 5800ish covered hoppers were weathered for the layout. In this update we will look at the finished Atlas Master 5800 covered hoppers and Scaletrains PS 5820 hoppers. I was able to figure out how to print custom decals which will be a game changer for creating more customized cars. I also take a look into how to re...

Follow along on my HO scale model railroad as we railfan the trains of the CSX New Castle Subdivision. We spend the day just north of Barberton, Ohio where we see a multitude of unit, manifest, and local freight trains. The period I model is roughly 2015-2017 and some trains have been omitted as I have not been able to purchase some of the rolling stock yet. In this video you will see: 0:53 K18...

    hello akron ho !!! first, let me say your work on the hoppers is downright beautiful !!! i, too, have used this same technique... oil paint/thinner/dullcote/powders to weather my hopper fleet !! i also made a slurry of burnt umber oil paint with thinner and applied it to some older coal porters that are now used for metal/trash transport. using a "layering" style of application, it is easy to get them to look differently down the side of the cars... just let it dry and its really nice !! some brown and red powders finished w/a spray of dullcote does the trick !!! btw, your hoechst hopper is really nice !!! by having worked for them, i can tell you most assuredly they were a great company to work for that supplied the pharmaceutical profession with raw chemicals (i.e. anything off the periodic chart) to make drugs... based in germany, where a lot of rx companies are from ( bayer, boehringer ingelheim and b. mannheim, schering/et al) they treated us fantastically !! also, their plants here in america were always kept beautifully with strings of these hoppers at the load in/load out racks. sad to see you painted over their logo, but that, too, was done in a beautiful fashion !!! please keep the videos coming !!!

    • @CSXNSModelFan
      @CSXNSModelFan 5 місяців тому

      Yes lacquer thinner will eventually attack plastic but in short bursts it will be fine thats why I only will use a wet Q-Tip and make sure it’s not soaking wet. And the little attacking that it does creates vertical streaks as thats how I move my Q-Tip. It creates a really neat effect once you weather it
