Trip into the bush Barn Finds!

Bryan and I get a hot tip that there is some stuff we might be interested in way out west. So, off we go. We have a fun trip and each get a project to take home. PS. the audio is up and down a bit, and I have no idea why the time lapse is sideways. Enjoy the adventure!
Subaru Brumby- welding in the patches, finally

After many delays, much procrastinating and life getting in the way, I post this video of about 8 hours work condensed down to 15 minutes. Not completely finished, but much closer now.

The stuff you have to do. Do you like small engines? I don’t have a a lot of experience, but I’ll give it a try.

I've turned a straightforward task into a two weekend saga. The objective of this task was to fix the tailgate handle so it unlatches correctly. I've achieved that. And so much more....

What pickups, I love a Longroof! But that CB100 does my heart in. I bought a new one in NZ for $569 back in 75, I rode it back to school the day I got my licence (at 15 in NZ back then), mine was greeny/blue. I'd love to know whats happened to them 2 years on.
Hey Scott where can i find a throttle linkage for the old girl to purchase thanks
Lived in chullora as a child. I used to cycle to Suttons homebush to lust over the sandman’s and GTS’s. It used to be near the big metro drive in. Happy carefree days. They must of got sick of us turning up daily asking for stickers.
11:22 Nice visual on how to repair a sloppy shifter on the Brumby/Brat.
I started buying up and restoring vmx bikes when covid hit mid 2020 Make no mistake that Honda is a great pick up. EBay is the place for any parts one may need, and the awesome after market parts one can get cheap for bikes all the way back to the 60s is unreal. Have fun gents 🤜🏽💥🤛🏽
That colour looks awesome and love a good kingswood 👌
What a time capsule, those seat covers !
How do I remove rear drive shaft from Subaru brumby
What a brilliant find, it is so hard to find cars of age in such great condition, you could t have found a better find in this car and lucky it’s away from the sea air , plinths and sills are a great find in such condition and not rusting away.
Great video guys 👍 how come there’s no follow up 🤷♂️
I say 11 years old
Very close
How’s the Brumby going.?
Good. I am busy trying to start another business so I have been slow with car stuff atm.
@@scottscarstuff2304 ,have you got a spare ea81 motor for sale?
@@richardorchard3364afraid not😃
@@scottscarstuff2304 ,ok thanks.
EPIC. That hoist just made the shed 50%bigger. Brilliant. Brumby looking good
so were these tipped off and bought or found abandoned and taken? not being rude just genuine question..
Cheers mate😁It was a tip off. We were offered the opportunity to go quite a distance to see a property and this is a sample of what we found.
@@scottscarstuff2304 Is there a part 2?
Keep up the good work mate.... just been watching your progress. I have a 91 targa top.... thanks for sharing your knowledge. Hopefully you get a tone of fun out of the brumby when it's done. Cheers 🍻
I just got myself a set of those wheels for my HZ Premier wagon now I know how she'll look , good on ya boys !!!
What thickness and type of metal were you using for the patches? I need to do exactly the same to my tray.
Nice to see you are doing Subaru videos again. Keep up the good work.
Your welder is a master hope you paid her well
Instant transformation that stuff is brilliant. Masterful job Scotty
Tailgate, well nothing is easy especially on a 30 year old vehicle, got the main hinge bolts out but the side arms were a different story, my son said take it easy dad, one job a day and I think I'll take his advice.
Nice work
Hope you will do more vidioes, thank you for the ones you have made.
Thanks Charles, I am endeavouring to be a bit more productive with the cars and videos 😁👍
Where did you get rear cv joints i can’t find any replacements
Sure glad that's not my brumby you are working on.
What a cool video mate!!! Wish I had the guts to make content like you man good on ya mate 🤝
Really cool stuff
7:47 absolutely love this model
very cool enjoyed nice cars and video cheers KC Cradle Mountain Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺🤝🇦🇺😎👍
I bought my American BRAT as my first car back in 79! Why you Aussies went and changed the name and the correct side to drive it on is beyond me, but will follow these cool videos anyway.
A Brumby is an untamed wild horse. Sounds way cooler than a brat. 😏
Thanks for that Scott. I love my old Brumby and its great to have your videos for reference.
Great find. 🤙
Bloody bonus mate great score even the wee bike
From looking at the model code on the VIN plate, 8WM35, the black instrument surround and steering wheel and the Belmont door trims, it looks like you have an HX Belmont wagon. This car is EXTREMELY rare! HX Belmonts were extremely rare even when they were new. I have only seen 2 in the 45 years since they were built (3 counting yours!). Because the price of a Belmont was only $200 less than a Kingswood, by 1976 even government fleets had switched to Kingswoods because the resale value was much higher. I would doubt that they sold more than 100 HX Belmont sedans and wagons before the Belmont was dropped in March 1977. When the HZ came out later that year, there was no Belmont, rather there was an A9K option on the Kingswood which deleted content that was standard in the volume selling Kingswood SL. A9K was only available to fleets and basically took over the market niche that the Belmont formerly occupied. A couple of things that are worth knowing about your car. Firstly, the HJ style grille is correct for the car. Actually, if you look very carefully at the grille and headlamp bezels, and then compare them to an HJ, you will notice that the HJ grille is chrome plated whereas the HX8WM69/35/70/80 grille is finished in a duller silver finish, probably just silver paint. The headlamp bezels are finished in a noticeably darker grey on the HX than on the HJ. How do I know this? As far as I know GM-H never published any photos of or sales literature for the HX Belmont. They did, however, publish pictures and brochures for the 8WM70 and 8WM80 which were sold as Holden Ute and Van, having dropped the Belmont name on utes and vans when the HJ came out. These pictures clearly show the slightly changed HJ style grille and darker headlamp bezels that were fitted only to the base model utes and vans. The Kingswood variants used the new grille from the HX Kingswood sedan/wagon. The other source of knowledge about the rare and elusive HX Belmont came from a display of Army equipment in a suburban shopping mall in 1976 or 1977. Along with all the military hardware on display was an Army staff car, which happened to be an HX Belmont sedan, the only one I have ever been able to examine up close. So i can confirm from that car that the spec of the HX Belmont closely mirrored the spec of the base model HX commercials (which of course sold in far greater numbers), including the grille, upholstery, instrument panel and steering wheel. Another thing that sets the HX Belmont apart is the absence of a Belmont badge on the front guard. The more upmarket HX models received new badges with a different font which were shaped to fit the guard at the new position just above the blister in the panel. I would assume that the decision had already been made to drop the Belmont due to poor sales, so tooling up for a new badge made no sense. Instead the only Belmont badge on the car was the old style badge which was placed on the left side of the bootlid or tailgate in line with the badge placement in the more upscale models. The seats are under seat covers in the video, but I would expect them to be Kingswood seats. Again the low sales did not warrant creating a bucket seat in the Belmont pattern so they just installed Kingswood items while retaining the Belmont door trims if bucket seats were optioned. The aircon is not a factory unit, could be a dealer fitted accessory or aftermarket. The factory air used a different control panel with 4 fan speeds and more complex control. Video shows a standard heater/demister control panel on the dash to the right of the steering column Finally, I would emphasize how rare this car is. Especially being a 3300/4 speed car. It could well be a one-off. I would hope that you decide to preserve it in as original a state as possible. For all I know it could be the last HX Belmont wagon in existence.
Thanks for the info Craig. I did guess that the air con was most likely dealer fitted. And I agree the combination of 3.3 and 4 speed is very rare, that's the reason that we went out west to find this one. Cheers.
yk your stuff
Great find. Wish I could find one that good. Comments that it's a HX and has HX Owners Manual but that's a HJ grill. What's on the Build Plate? I've got a HZ tonner that I plan to to get back on the road. 70s Holdens are a great shape, though the HQ is my favourite as well as the HT from 68 which I've had many of.
The HJ/HX/HZ grills were all interchangeable. Probably got broken and replaced with whichever grill they could find at the time. Years ago my mate crashed the front of his HJ 1tonner, so we pulled the front off one of the HQs that l had (only took 40 mins) and replaced the whole front in one piece. Basically just unbolt the guards from the body, and the radiator support panel etc from the front chassis, unplug all the wiring, take the bumper off, and lift the whole lot off, guards, inner guards, radiator, radiator support , nosecone with headlights/grill and bonnet in one piece. Had it all fixed in 1 day and repainted the following weekend.👍
It's a HX Belmont.
Once upon a time the old Holden Kingswood was everywhere the bread and butter of Australia. Needs a good wash, full service, new battery, fresh fuel.
That wagon has the good old pussbox 6.... no wonder it was left in the shed 🤣when the Datsun 120Y started to blow it away the owners parked it in shame lol..... please put an 8 in it
Far out! What a find
What a score didn't look too bad for rust glad it has been saved
Was she painted with rattle cans?
Bet you get some surprises with the sills and rear quarters
Hi Guys, lucked out on your supermint HX kingy, keep the doors, I have a 77 hz supermint prem 308 t400 4 wheel disks original wagon looked similar and was stupid enough to trash dented doors ( pushed by wife to get rid of parts) , they are original and will fit better than any crap rusty other doors you can find now days Fish oil it now in all the cavities before you let the rust starts once it is out of the shed don't wait. It isn't original factory air it is dealer fitted underdash like the fact the 8 inch hotwires still have the centres, mine was hotwires with no centres but now 8 inch steelies with stato hub caps and dress rims . thumbs up guys
Beautiful old wagon. I'd find a good PDR guy to pop out those dents down the passenger side and preserve the paint the way it is. Fluid change, new plugs, clean the carb and fuel system and she will run for sure. 👍
Wouldn't hurt giving the brakes some attention.
@@1953beetle poor old 202 probably wouldn't produce enough grunt to require brakes....but you are probably right 😂
@@Mardy72 👍
In all seriousness tho, new shocks, brakes, uni's, bushes and then just drive her. Leave the paint and the interior as is....just enjoy the nostalgia 👍
Hi Martin, that is the plan. Just get the dents out as best we can. We dropped the carb to a Stromberg guy in Sydney for restoration and hope to get it runnung in the next week or two.
Good on ya for rescueing another classic, this is the very thing I'm looking for as a daily !!!
What a find 2 golden oldies well done m8
Damn it, we support the criminal in Moscow. Putin can only be defeated if we implement an immediate energy-saving lockdown. No more private trips. Heating only at night and only one room with light and electricity, you can simply set that at the fuse box....Cities could, for example, switch off every second street light and companies could switch off their neon signs. We can initially limit driving to pure business trips and hospital trips, etc...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stop driving now!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is just too epic. Tell me you get the bike. Pretty sure it's a Cb100 K0 1970. Rare and collectible and original and low klms. $10k easy restored.
Yes got the bike😁
@@scottscarstuff2304 Did you get the wagon to run? If you are selling it, how much are you asking?
Nice work. Shows why bodywork costs so much.
