Car is either down ~20whp or 250lbs overweight in it's current config. Somewhat happy with one of these laps, but it was messy.
Having fun at WGI. COMSCC rungroup 0

Chasing a LS swapped 350z at COMSCC NHMS
Woohoo! That was fun to watch!!! Man, that sun was blinding tho! In your spare time...tighten your rear view mirror....
Absolutely hauling the mail!
god dang it! awesome laps.
Hecking amazing laps man! Car is hooked, driver is getting everything out of it, SWEEEET!
Thanks! The shifting issue (though it's 4th this time instead of third) is back after switching to a s1 trans again. I think this proves that I cannot use a s1 trans behind the k without issues.
@@D1sturb4nc3 Yeah, there's another 0.5s in there with cooperative transmission!
@@D1sturb4nc3 Time for a S2000 trans buddy, much better suited gear ratio for K engine.
@@koawang0609 I've been considering it. I drove a s2k not too long ago and the gear ratios are so much better.
Very good driving skills, you seem to know your car very well! What is your suspension setup ?
Thank you. I left a little time out there, I think. Suspension is the keisler automation Penske setup, 7500DAs. I've got the P2M rear arms, stock front arms with the mazda camber offset stuff.
@D1sturb4nc3 excellent choice with the extra travel rx8 needs
@@ogrigoros131 Yup. I had some BCs on the car previously and it was a handful (see ua-cam.com/video/qHuT3YadOtA/v-deo.html for example)
@D1sturb4nc3 very big difference, with the Keisler coilover is more friendly and seems to be much faster
What lessons if any did you take from this? I ask because I have lost many an engine on track. Great video 👍
I think 8200 was too much for a stock bottom end k24. Data looked good, no bearings looked bad so that's the only guess.
I'm surprised you're shifting to 5 at the end of 2. Keeping it in 4 should keep the MPH up ~103-104 thru the esses and might save you a tenth or two? Might not be nice to the car, but :)
seemed to matter less in practice when I did t1 better, which was what I based the shifts off.
Ripping some proper TEC out there! I'm pouring one out for that K24 right now... 🍻
Looked great out there man. Sorry about the motor!
Loving every second of it! but the last few seconds obviously... Did you lock up the rear because of the engine locking up?
@@maximedalens6314 nope, car was loose under power on exit then boom
What an awesome battle man! Great racing with you!
@@JackieDing86 highlight of the weekend battling with you. Too bad the yellow flag owned me!
Good stuff! Great battle with the FRS. You were getting a good run on him down onto the front straight. So tough to make it stick, though. Nice clean racing!
Min speed thru 2 is awesome. I couldn't consistently figure out the no braking line thru there, really had to nail the turn in point to make it work. If you didn't get loose in 4 you would be knocking on a 46 - great lap.
Thanks man! I feel like there's even a bit more left in 2. Definitely a 46 in the car.
Let's go
Hauling the mail!
What an evolution!
Car was down some HP over last year at this event for a variety of reasons (false knock, different bottom end). That's been found. Oh and I had essentially no clutch for this TT, RIP third gear synchros.
Great build and skills! What is your suspension setup ?
Thanks! There's a fair bit of time left in the car still I think with some better driving. Car is on the Keisler Penske setup & his front sway bar. Rear bar is the racing beat one I believe. For this lap it was stock arms all around with the Mazda camber offset metal bushings in the front knuckles & delrin UCA bushing. I ended up going to the p2m rear arms this year as they're legal in the class I'm running now.
Noice!
Holy moly, sending it. That new gearing looks like a double edged sword though. Short shifting before 11b on the last lap made you so much quicker you hit the limiter before turn 1. That lap was gonna be a good one until turn 4. Any reason you're turning in so late at turn 4 BTW, Looks like you're exaggerating it on that corner.
Thanks man - yeah I was up a half second until I blew 4. Still the best lap, but it was a low 20 not a high 20. Great point on 4. I think you're right that i'm sending it in a little deep there. I've been trying to focus on the exit and I struggle to get the car to rotate on entry there i feel.
What broke
What broke?
Motor seemed to lose oil pressure / overheat and seized. We swapped it that night.
@@D1sturb4nc3 ah crap. You know what caused that?

Drivers: Mike 19:45 Bob 1:43:00 Brandon 2:48:00 3:00:40 - Front left caliper bolt came out and locked up the tire into Turn 1. 40 minute trip to Lemons HQ and eventually backwards drive to paddock for repair Brandon 3:40:00 Vince 5:40:00 - Checker 7:26:00
Bob takes the track for his very first 24 Hours of Lemons even at 26:00 Sadly we had some streaming issues later on.
Weird streaming malfunctions during Bob's first stint. Vince jumps in at 52:30. HANS issues causing a 3 minute delay on track.

Spicy!
Great stuff! Always *always* pushing :D Man that 2-3 rpm drop is *brutal*! Any better transmission options?
Both rx8 gearboxes have a pretty big drop 2 to 3. I'm probably going to try 4.7 gears next year, which will help some. The car has 4.44s now
Won't help the massive loss of revs 2-3, will be the same! I don't get it, how hard can it be for sports car manufacturers to give us decent ratios where 2-5 are super-close, and 1 is granny-gear for getaways and 6 is super-tall for highway mpg. Seems like nobody does this right!
Yeah, the 2-3 and 3-4 spacing sucks. 4-5 and 5-6 spacing in this car is way better. Nothing to be done about it, though I think the taller rear end might be a positive.
Crazy speed through oval section! S2 gearbox swap is a win as it seems?
Yup, shifts are much much better now!
Nice...
Oh my... I did that at NHMS in the old BRZ once, 9krpm :O
ua-cam.com/video/rmgYVeCMFE4/v-deo.html Out of curiosity I find trackjunkie‘s onboard video try to analyze the difference between kswapped 8 & ported 8. Different track condition and car condition, but I try my best to do a "fair" comparison. Red car is in NASA TT5 trim. Dynod around 200whp, comp weight ~2800lbs, 245 Hoosier A7 all 4 corners, Ohlins DFV, 5.12 final drive+1.5way OS Giken. Although almost 300lbs heavier, yet most of the corner speed is almost the same, which is suprising to me and shows the swap didn't hurt handling at all, car is still fast around corners. Turn 1 might be due to different driving line or maybe your car is too pushy? Heavier weight and different driving lines aside, looks like shifting time cost you the most. Took ~0.8s/shift on average and that added up about 3.x seconds in total. I believe you will be much faster after trans issue is sorted out.
This is awesome, thanks for the video & doing the comparison. I dyno'd at 220WHP using NASA dyno rules (COM requires the same rules). Turn one is all the driver, the car has significantly more in it there, but I backed it into the tires there a year ago and just never worked up to full pace this event in T1. It cost me a ton of time. I think I'm leaving some corner speed out there in a few other spots too. Specifically, I think I can hustle harder in the bust stop, 6, 8, 9 & 11. Shifting also is killing time, I'm swapping a s2 transmission in before my next event hopefully, if I can make it all work with the p2m kit. Thanks for doing the math there, I knew it was time but that's shocking. Does NASA TT5 allow aero? That might be why my corner speeds are similar on re71rs rather than A7s? Weight wise, I could drop 200lbs without doing anything (ballast, pass seat & not running a full tank), I suspect I could get close to 2800lbs race weight, but I haven't removed much weight due to trying to stay in a COM class. My cage is pretty beefy, so that's a little extra weight over a minimum requirement cage.
@@D1sturb4nc3Can confirm he's got rear wing, no spliter but not sure about airdam
@@D1sturb4nc3 You're welcome man, best luck next event!
Time to change out to a s2k trans, Idk if it's gearing or adapter plate, the upshifts of K series&RX8 trans combo always seems slow and rough for me. Having seen some kswapped s2000s, they seems to shift much smoother, crispy by comparison.
If you were using the collins kit, it was constantly walking out the pilot bearing & not letting the trans spin down at high RPM for me. This even killed a transmission input shaft bearing eventually. The PMC one is better. I think I just need to figure out how to get my s2 rx8 trans to work with the PMC kit and it'll be excellent.
well.. you know I've done that trick once before, too. car fine?
Yup, but I missed some more shifts (nothing as dramatic or as potentially expensive as this one) each session after. Didn't go into 4th once during the TT which ruined a lap.
@@D1sturb4nc3 Ah yuck... that's something that'll kill your confidence for sure. After I miss-shifted with you in the car I put in a self centering shifter (don't have to worry about doing detents on future transmissions). Would totally recommend one.
Yikes
Yup, I fucked up. Trans felt like trash all day Tuesday, but was fine Monday. Maybe it was just the driver.
Which car is this I was in the red Miata
We were the black honda accord with a chevy grill. Hondarado.
Wonder if his “wake turbulence” hurt your cornering speeds at all. Side note, that dude waving the checkered flag sure is cool.
Damn, I didn't think of the dirty air excuse! The flag guy sure could wave it, if it was anyone else I'd have missed the checkered.
So smooth! but 3100lbs, is it with you in the car? that roll cage must weight a lot lol
I've done very little weight reduction and have a little bit of ballast for classing reasons. The cage is pretty beefy though.
So slippery thru the infield. You switch to all seasons for wet days?
Yeah the infield and the black pavement in a few spots was very slippery. This was on rt660s I think. I switched to re71rs and they were slightly better.
Love it dude. Hell of a lap great driving. K-swap the world!
Thanks man! I wish I got some more dry time out there, I think I left some on the table in a few spots.
How do you like it compared to your Saab?
It's a lot more fun to drive. The saab was fairly well dialed in, but was doing some things that required throwing a lot more parts at the car to fix. Namely it was lifting a rear tire almost everywhere and the WRX transmission couldn't handle that. Setting that rear tire down meant ruining the turn in and front end grip so it was a game of trade offs. The rx8 chassis is just fantastic now that it's getting more dialed in. There's quite a bit more grip and the car is just plain more fun to drive. The saab was a little quicker in a straight line, but I think the rx8 should be the faster car overall this year.
I'm local to palmer, I'd love to see this car in person, I had an rx8 but it did typical rx8 thing and blew up like clockwork at 90k. Been itching to get back in an 8 for a while now and this is probably the way to go. Good work man. What did you use to get it running? Hondata or something along those lines?
I was excited to look for counterclockwise footage and find a Saabaru in the process!
Hell yeah man!!!
