Cool painting. Two things that are very important to point out with oiling in: Use the least amount of oil possible on the painting to get the effect you need, and only oil in the areas that you are going to paint over. If you add oil to a dry area and don't paint over it, that oil will turn yellow eventually.

Can you put oil ground on unprimed canvas? I make my own canvas and stretcher bars.

Ite odd how you hold your pencil. You should try holding it more with your thumb on the pencil..... just a thought

Thanks, great video. I've got a custom painting of me playing football by Ruth Mayer (Google her paintings!!! She's so good. She was a patient of mine and she took some of my photos and painted one of her great football collages. Sadly someone was moving it... (it's large) and she dropped it and the canvas tore in the middle. How can I get it repaired? Or should I cut it up to make smaller paintings in smaller frames??? Im SOOO BUMMED!!)

Great video. Really well explained and easy to understand. I’ve heard there are also non-absorbent gessos that might solve the “sinking in” problem. My gesso is pretty absorbent, so I’m looking forward to trying the oil ground now.

Titanium white????? Are you sure? Titanium White is truly the white of the 20th century. The titanium pigment, titanium dioxide was discovered in 1821 but it was not until 1921 that a titanium white oil color suitable for artistic purposes was introduced by an American manufacturer.

I’m curious how long you did wait for the oil ground to dry. It’s recommended to wait a month or more. 2-3 weeks at the very least. Maybe that’s why it was “pulling” on you.

I’m new to oils and trying portraiture. I’m a charcoal artist so colours are the challenge, particularly skin tones. I’ve watched lots of UA-cam vids but this is by far the easiest to understand. Others can be, and often are, very technical. I love this channel. Thank you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

the 'zorn' pallette is much much much older than Zorn himself

doesnt really look like a shiny chrome paint.
