Great info, thank you Sir! Question: you talked about color. I'm a new student trying to compose a work. I thought "it'll be fine just with values"..😂 but it felt very flat when I tried to paint it. So my question can you make a black and white come out well, or do you need color to help it look real?

thanks you video helped me im trying o paint pipe work as instead punk but was having trouble making it look realistic. im using acrylics im more used to Digital work hard to get that round with shadows. find it hard jump in between different medium, digital and oil and water. I do them all hard.

I got rid of a bunch of old journals too and it was so freeing! I’ve used art as a cathartic “safe space” to process my emotions of present struggles and childhood trauma when I didn’t have the words (or wasn’t ready to talk about) what had happened. I see it as a common grace and gift God gave me while I was in the desert (turned away from Him). I talk about my story of using art throughout my life in a podcast - a past, repainted. I haven’t uploaded episodes in a long time, but have some queued up on self guided art therapy - basically using art to help with healing from trauma and mental health. I hope more people find your channel and this message you so clearly stated. We can and do recover! ❤

Praise God for his goodness and gift of faith he has given you! I became a follower of Christ about 5.5 years ago. Before that, my paintings showed a lot of pain and desperation, or were many layers deep, and left unfinished from the foggy state of drug addiction. My paintings now are completely different, just as I am a new creation in Christ. I can’t wait to see what you create when you come back to painting! For me, it isn’t that every painting is just full of sunshine, there’s still some brokenness in it, but there’s always light and hope too. 🕊️

As a dumbass white dude, I'm here to say that's its nice to see a young brother having this channel, and doing videos. Not enough diversity in the arts. Especially painting and portraits in particular. I've been exploring this Zorn pallete, and like that it's a limited amount of colors. Thanks for showing the mixing process you used with these couple of colors

Cool painting. Two things that are very important to point out with oiling in: Use the least amount of oil possible on the painting to get the effect you need, and only oil in the areas that you are going to paint over. If you add oil to a dry area and don't paint over it, that oil will turn yellow eventually.

Can you put oil ground on unprimed canvas? I make my own canvas and stretcher bars.
