Stop the hackers by securing your 3d printer's SSH connection
Hackers are everywhere and they are looking to work their way into your printer! Today, we are going to secure our printers by changing the passwords, creating cryptographically strong SSH keys, disabling password-based logins, and exploring how to use serial connections in an emergency.

Say goodbye to Z-wobble with the Neptune 3&4 Max Belted-Z Mod!
Переглядів 7 тис.7 місяців тому
Many 3D printers, the Neptune 3 Max and Neptune 4 Max included, use lead screws to raise and lower their gantry. This works well, but lead screws are rarely perfectly straight, and can lead to Z-wobble, one of the more common sources of Z-banding. While there are many different tools and techniques to address this, including sliding motor screw nuts and Oldham couplers, in this video, we will i...

Linear rails on an Elegoo Neptune 3 Max!?!?! (Part 1: X & Y)
Quite helpfull ❤
Thank you!
Just installed the X and Y kits on my 4 max following your excellent guides. The Y axis doesn't seem to move as smoothly, but this is consistent across the full range of motion. I'm also getting slip on the Y axis when printing. Any advice?
I have a Elegoo Neptune 4 Max. I am a little bit confused on how to level my bed. I seem to be missing something here. Do you 1st set a Z bench mark at "H" to the desired distance first. Then set the other 6 locations to zero? I have looked around and all I see is everyone starting at the #1 location and setting the 6 locations to Zero. For example when you level the bed with a sheet of paper as per the initial set up instructions. You begin in the center of the bed, in theory is a fixed location. Then you proceed to run "around the world" setting the 6 locations to the same approx. the same drag on the paper. Someone please help.
When using BL5K, you are trying to get all of the numbers to be roughly the same. However, on a fixed bed printer, like the Neptune 4 Max, you can't (directly) change the center location, so use that as the reference you compare all of the other points against. Also, I recommend using Probe All and making a lot of little adjustments, as opposed to trying to get one point perfect before moving to the next.
@@SandMMakersThank you very much for your response and help with this. It is greatly appreciated. If I understand you correctly. Lets say my nozzle is .110 off the center of the build plate. That should be the number (.110) I aim for. Not the exact ".00". Then set the Z offset to desired distance? Thank you for your suggestions and help.
Great video! But where do i find the stl for the modified version? If i click the link in the description, i can only find the long bracket version. Edit: found it. Didn't see the .step file which i had to convert to stl first.
Glad you found it.
Thank you for making these, I'm several of these views now! I had installed the x axis last year, but quality issues led me to do the y and z now. It would have been much harder without your videos
Thank you!
Hey, man I love your video, especially the Neptune 4 max upgrade video series I wonder if there is any way to contact you I would like to know why you didn't switch over to silicone spacer when you already had it all disassembled
Thank you for watching our videos! To prevent viewer confusion, I try to only make one change per video.
If you were doing this again in what order would you do? I have the 4 Max. Which axis gives the biggest benefit?
In descending order of importance: Y. X, Z, extra diagonal braces, belted-Z. The last one is really more for the fun of modding than anything else.
Thank you for this very infinitive tutorial .
Thank you!
Your guides are perfect, installed the x and y kits as a starter on my N4 Plus and I'm glad i did. I was getting pretty decent bed meshes with pom wheels but the flatness i received with linear rails is superb. Not to mention the much more bearable noise, it's almost like bambu a1 now. Right after finishing the installation of x and y kits i order the z kit, no more rubber flakes on my table!
Glad I could help
Yeah, I tried this, it was crap, was easier and quicker and more accurate to do it by hand with a sheet of paper. The software gives some wacky readings when you hit the same spot over and over. You'll get reading that are .15mm different back to back. Hit 1, gives me a reading of 0.03, no adjustments, hit it again, gives me a reading of 0.13, no adjustments, hit it again it reads 0.08, no adjustments, hit it again it gives 0.01, and on and on.
If you are getting readings that vary by 0.15mm, then you either have a mechanical problem or your probe is not working correctly. However, please note that the probe has an inherent error bounds of about +/- 0.025mm. This is a property of the probe and is out of the control of BL5K.
I'm also getting this error. What could be the mechanical issue?
I'm sorry but that's a complete waste of money. The printer costs $139 and the single rail is almost as expensive.
Thank you for watching our videos! I'm not affiliated with TBStron3D, so I didn't design the kit, nor do I sell it. I just made the installation videos to help out anyone that needs them.
So many silicone spacers :(
The current version of the kit uses a new, MUCH easier mounting bracket. This bracket came out after I made my Neptune 4 Max videos, but you can see them in my Sovol SV07 Plus Y-axis video. That portion of the install is almost identical across both printers.
A really great piece of work that you have produced. My respect. However, every attempt to access your website has failed so far. Every time I get the message that the site is not available "ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT" Is there another way to get your software? Greetings from Germany.
what happened to the Micro swiss hot end video?? thumbs up good video.. also again thank you for doing the tbstron videos there always awesome!!
Thank you for watching our videos! I needed to take a break for a while, but I'm now back and working on a number of new videos.
@@SandMMakers Awesome I will keep checking in 😁☺☺I am also looking into the idea of adding an extra stepper drive+motor for the Y-Axis there is a 5th driver slot on the motherboard could help prevent skipped steps for heavier prints I might be going a little to far but I would like to print double the Height, and already figured out how to do it but the weight of those prints well I expect issues!!! unless I can add an extra stepper motor of cores..
I'm actually planning on creating a video about adding a fifth stepper driver to enable dual independent-Z. With that mod, we can have automatic gantry squaring or at least MUCH easier gantry squaring. I have a list of about 4-6 videos to get through before that one, though.
How do I setup the klipper wifi connection to use Fluidd to view my bed mesh?
Thank you for watching our videos. Setting up WiFi on your printer is going to be printer model specific. I can really only suggest consulting the printer's user guide.
THANK YOU!!! Elegoo should include this when they ship ... makes a WORLD of difference for large flat parts!!
Thank you. Unfortunately, I have not been contacted by any printer manufacturers regarding bundling BL5K with printers.
Awesome piece of software :) My question is...the points seem to be off. IE: when I click the home button, it's not centered? Do I need to manually make offset adjustments?
Thank you for trying BL5K! The software moves the probe, not the nozzle, to the intended probe location.
@SandMMakers should the probe be in the same location reference in the software as what the machine indicates? I guess what I am saying is, when I probe the locations with the software, they are different than probing using the printer.
@@SandMMakers so I was comparing probe locations. Ex: Bed Leveler for probe 3 is at 201.5, 191.5, while klipper is showing probe at 225.750, 171.050. Is this supposed to be the case?
BL5K reports the location probed while Klipper reports the location of the nozzle. Since the probe, not the nozzle , is used for probing, the numbers/coordinates will not be the same.
which video is the z sychronous belt in its the only ting i have left to do
Thank you for watching our videos! Please check the video list in the channel. Links to videos don't really work well in the comments.
@@SandMMakers dont need a link just the number of the video 1,2,3,4?
I’m having an issue with the nozzle is not aligned properly to the print bed, like there’s an offset to it, when I home all axis’s, my Y-axis misses the bed by 15mm. And almost to a point of derailing. Is there a way to apply an offset on a Neptune 4max to the y-axis?
You can change the end points of an axis in the printer.cfg file. However, the Y-axis linear rail kit should not alter the X-axis or the Y-axis. Are you sure the base plate was reinstalled correctly?
Forgot to mention i have the Neptune 3 Plus
Hi. I have to replace the hot bed as it was uneven. Anyway Neptune send me a new bed. I think I know how now after watching your Rail video, but have had trouble getting it level. Do you have a video that explains the leveling and adjustments? Thanks so much.
Thank you for watching our videos! For bed leveling, please see our Bed Leveler 5000 videos.
I hate that the instructions for this kit are only available as a video. I'd appreciate written instructions.
Thank you for watching our videos! I'm not affiliated with TBStron3D. I'm just a UA-cam content creator that documented how I installed the kits on my own printers.
@SandMMakers oh that makes sense. TbStrong3d linked directly to your videos from their website.
@@SandMMakers TBStron3D has been linking to your install videos instead of writing install guides. This is where the problem is.
Wow this looks amazing. Just got my Neptune 4 max and will definitely try this. Thanks a lot for this useful software 👌👌. You are a genius 👍
Thank you i have learned so much things !
Nice extruder cable solution. Not having A crack. I have run farms and knew this new Neptune 4 MAX would maybe kill itself from the crap cable management, well yep second print the cable sagged and got caught/jammed and then chewed out the pom wheels on the Y and X and now doing the linear upgrade lol.
Sorry to hear about your printer damage, but thank you for watching our videos! I'm actually working on designing a better, 3d printed, mount for the badge clip. Not sure the release timeline, though.
please get rid of the loop music. I like your video but I skipped through because of the music.
Thank you for watching our videos! Our newer videos do not contain background music.
One tip. Remove the annoying background loop music.
Thank you for watching our videos! Our newer videos do not contain background music.
Can you please update thingaverse and change the STEP file to an STL file for the Neptune 4 alignment pieces?
Thank you for watching our videos! I upload STEP files because they are a higher quality format that better allows for remixing. Are you using a slicer that doesn't directly support them?
why is this not default on printers?
Thank you for watching our videos! I can only assume POM wheels were chosen for cost reasons. Linear rails (especially, higher quality ones) are significantly more expensive than POM wheels and Elegoo focuses on the less expensive portion of the hobbyist 3d printer market.
Any thoughts on adjustments to the printer config to account for the 3mm height adjustment. Having issues with it atm. Really appreciate the guides, used them for my N4 Pro X, Y, and Z!
Thank you for watching our videos! Did you update your z-offset?
Sick. I was just looking at this upgrade.
Thank you.
Very easy to understand instructions. Thanks. I look forward to other videos from you or suggested by you to improve my SV07+ which I acquired just yesterday,
Thank you for watching our videos. I'm not sure if TBStron3D will be releasing more modifications for the Sovol product line, but I do have videos applicable to a wider range of printers, including my Bed Leveler 5000 videos.
Just did the y linear rail upgrade. Not sure how much of a differece a belted Z will make but im going to do it because its cool. basicaly a massive switchwire.
Thank you for watching our videos! In my opinion, the mod priority is (in decreasing order) Y, X, Z, additional diagonal brace, belted-Z. I'd really only recommend the belted-Z if you are experiencing bent Z rod problems or you just enjoy modding printers. X and Y provide the most improvement to your printer.
Planning to buy all the mods but will I be able to increase speed? That’s what I’m looking for
The most important mods are the Y and X axes. Those are the two that have the greatest chance of letting you print faster. The Z-axis mod is really a quality of life mod so you don't need to deal with POM wheels. The belted-Z mod is really only for if you are experiencing bent lead-screw issues or just enjoy modding your printer. I don't recommend the belted-Z for most people that just want to print stuff quickly.
How is the mod holding up? I have been having some serious issues with my stock Neptune 3 plus z axis
Thank you for watching our videos! While I haven't used the printer a lot since installing the belted-Z mod, I can confidently say the X, Y, and Z mods are definitely worth it, with Y and then X being the most important.
Guys, can anyone help? Did exactly what's in video (have Neptune 4 Plus with OpenNept4une installed), but as soon as I connect just one of end-stop swiches (does not matter if X or Y), the printer (mainboard) fan speed goes up and klipper shows an error: "!! MCU 'mcu' shutdown: ADC out of range". Must disconnect switch from cable and "restart firmware" to bring printer back on :( . There are more sections of printer.cfg with "PC0" and "PB8" (tmc2209 stepper_x has diag_pin: ^PC0 and tmc2209 stepper_y has diag_pin: ^PB8) - tried to comment both, but no success... At time 12:55 there are visible two jumpers attached to pins "XDIAG" and "YDIAG" under stepper drivers - do they have to be removed? ua-cam.com/video/_oHoEb0nlOA/v-deo.html
Ok, I will answer myself. If you want to use physical endstops, you must remove XDIAG and YDIAG jumper at first. Then watch for "diag_pin" in printer.cfg (tmc2209 stepper_x and stepper_y section) and comment them both... Everything else presented in this video is correct. I also recommend bend X-endstop metal plate (90° angle, approx. in half of its length), so you move x home position little bit further from switch itself. It might save your printhead cable from colliding with left frame - you can notice it at time 28:56
Thank you for watching our videos and for looking into this! I haven't encountered this problem before and it is the first time I'm hearing of it. I wonder if it is related to OpenNeptune or maybe a design change in the Neptune 4 series printers.
For the grease do we have to use EP1 or can I use XHP 221?
Thank you for watching our videos! While I prefer EP1, any NLGI 1 or 2 grease without additives should work.
Very helpful and informative, thank you sir
Thanks for watching!
Any longtime review about this mod?
Thank you for watching our videos! I had to take a break from 3d printing for a short while, so I have not had the time to extensively use that printer since making the video.
Hey mate, quick question, do I try get it as close to the reference point number or should I still be aiming for closest to 0
Thank you for trying BL5K! If you bed a bed with a fixed center, aim for all points to be the same as the center. If your printer's bed doesn't have a fixed center, then try to get all points the same.
Hi, when will the Z rails come out?
Yes, I to would like to get the Z rail mod kit. Just ordered the X and Y rail kit. Mine are suppose to be her middle of January 2025.
Since I'm not affiliated with TBStron3D, I'm not familiar with their plans to release new products.
Great video! I've been researching upgrades for my new (to me) N3M and this is a wealth of valuable information! Just out of curiosity, does anyone know if it's possible to square up the existing Y "rails"/guides the pom wheels roll on? Mine seems to have a bit more friction towards the back which is confirmed by my pom wheels. They're definitely easier to spin towards the front than the back.
Thank you for watching our videos! When dealing with POM wheels, you generally need to make a lot of little adjustments to get everything square and tight. You can't just tighten one POM wheel and expect everything to become square. Also, POM wheels can easily become damaged or deformed (especially if tightened down too much). Sometimes, loosening the POM wheel and waiting overnight can cause the deformation to go away.
excellent step by step explanation. with this it is super easy to install, thank you very much.
Thank you!
PSA for anyone that is planning on doing the hiwin upgrade. The rails now come in thermally sealed packaging not a plastic sleeve and without any stoppers as discribed in the video. Although the thermally sealed packaging is better at protecting the rails during shipping, it is still covered in oil. You have to make sure you cut around EVERY part of the plastic around rail/ carriage. If not any plastic can catch the carriage and slide it of the rail. This happened to me even though I was extremely careful. One of the carriages caught a small piece of plastic and slid right off the rail in the process shooting a few bearings around my garage into the abyss. It barely slid off but it didn’t matter. I still think this will a great upgrade for the N4max but just know as like many things in 3d printing things change fast and this is not 100% accurate and that is definitely not S&M Makers fault. I’m have great respect for him and this channel.
Thank you!
Just received my x and y rails yesterday and they are indeed heat shrink wrapped. After reading your comment about this I unwrapped the ends first and put some cable ties on to stop the carriage slipping off the ends. Thanks for the info on this.
why didnt you do the video for the z synchronous belt install the other guy that has one speeds his camera to much cant follow yours i can stop and start as i do it ...will you be making this one >>>>?????
Thank you for watching our videos! I already released an install video for the belted-Z mod.
Excelente.
Thank you!
My printer isnt even connected to an IP address so to add “host” isn’t possible so my printer cant be found with the program im sure the program is great but to get it working quite frankly sucks and your videos never go into the details we need such as that and how to get around it.
What model printer are you attempting to use with BL5K?
Just discovered your videos. Great idea on the Bed Leveler 5000 but I have the Neptune 3 Pro so no benefit since I don't have adjustment wheels.
Thank you for watching our videos! While the Neptune 3 Pro doesn't come with adjustment wheels, there is a mod to add them. Basically, you would remove the bed, drill out the screw holes, replace the existing screws with longer screws/knobs/springs, and then reinstall the bed. Especially since this is a permanent mod, I don't recommend performing it without giving it significant thought and planning first. The mod is also really not needed for the vast majority of Neptune 3 Pro owners.
Thats great and all but i dont know what cord to use to even connect the printer.
If you have a Marlin printer, use USB. If you have a Klipper printer, the printer just needs to be connected to your home network and have an IP address.
I keep getting an error to run auto bed leveling again when attempting to connect. Not sure if it is because of the new Neptune 3 max update or not
