May I recommend a book titled North of the Sun by Fred Hatfield. He left Maine in 1930 to carve out a life in interior Alaska. Fascinating memoir about his life there.

I have always loved this story of adventure and determination. Dick Proenneke was a man in every sense of the word and meaning!

I tell my wife that last line all the time.

Age creeps up on us all, but all of us haven't chronology filmed our lives, some actors and musicians have had it done for them but dicks story is half of my story, wish I could have filmed it. But love watching his !

The video said he was 6 foot tall. He looked more like 5 foot 6 inches to me, not tall at all but very athletic.

When the guy moved out there to Alaska he was a real stud and looked athletic. I saw some other footage of him at 75 years of age at his cabin and he did not look that great anymore.

83 years of age and there he is in a canoe one last time, as if it were back in '68. Just incredible, no other words can describe this man's life and legacy. Mr. Proenneke I honor your soul and I'm not the only one who has immense gratitude for documenting your life and Journey at Twin Lakes 🙏

No wonder he lived so long, no woman hounding him, no whine about needing more money, no being cut off, and no loneliness, nothing lonelier than marriage with a woman that isolates her husband!

My heart goes out to this guy to live the way he did and he Wirked for it building the cabin with his Own 2 hands and a Saw and hammer and the only thing that got in his way was time and Age Like the rest of us but he Kept busy so his time past Quickly

Would it not make more sense to have the fireplace in the middle of the cabin, as to use all of the heat?

WELL DONE….Can’t believe nobody commented. My husband and I are just putting the finishing touches on a greenhouse we started last summer. We are putting in 4 raised beds and will be putting in this watering system as they are very expensive here in Western Canada. I have been gardening for 30 years (mostly flowers)and I would say you’re off to a great start for many years of produce and learning. 😊
