Just started playing FFVIII again around 3 days ago. It’s all I think about while at work. FFVII is my favorite of all time but VIII Is still incredible.

And not a single word about dog hand-canon, dog wrestler, dog for riding, dog posing in front of the moon... The most important part!

31:15 Vaan is actually the most important character in the game. Without him joining the hunters guild and advancing in the ranks, the final hunt Yiazmat would have destroyed Ivalice. It is hailed in npc opinions and in statistical fact that Yiazmat is the most powerful creature in Ivalice. The kingdom battles and wars meant nothing at the end of the day, as Yiazmat would kill everybody anyways. So really, the rest of the team are all side characters, and Vaan is DEFINITELY the main hero AND the most powerful being in Ivalice after he completes the final hunt.

Omg we have the same favorite ff tactics and first then 8, then 7 and then x. This was also my first final fantasy.

FF8 has a fake President that scared me then transformed FF8 has great bosses and this is not my final form Ultimecia I beat her so many times years ago

7 was my first, 8 was my second and the one I got to try the most before I got a PlayStation. Definitely gets more hate than I think it deserves. Definitely has issues but I actually like the breaks it has.

19:35 Yes, defeating Midgar Zolom when you first encounter it is super-satisfying. It's not as hard as it appears. You can even defeat the Zolom in a no-random-battles challenge. It helps to keep everyone tranquilized in the back row, with Cure materia, give the Enemy Skill learner an Elemental-Fire combo on their armor and don't have them attack until they're the last fella remaining, rely mainly on Limit Breaks for your attacks, use Beta on the Zolom once you've learned it. Experiment from there. Good luck!

I know it's not the point of the video but since you brought it up I gotta disagree about the heat towards vasn in ff12, he has agency to be in the group and even jf he didn't it wouldn't matter, he's their because his life choices led him their, he wants to be a sky pirate because adventure and goes along with bal and Fran because he wants to be like then, and even then you could argue vaan has every right to be in the rebellion for what the empire and vash brother did to vaan brother leading him into his life of thievery in the first place, just because a character is under qualified or are their of their own volition doesn't give then any less right to be their and I think a lot of people forget that by your argument Han and chewy shouldn't be helping Luke and Leia because they got no REAL agency against the empire like the rest kf the cast but their their because they want to be. Besides all of that though we saw what happens to ff when you don't got an every man, exposition is turned into walls of text in ff13

Absolutely love this game :) always been my favourite. Love the parts of the game people hate :) the junction system is great, story is a little messed up but if you do multiple play throughs it’s not so bad. Love the characters and triple triad, I have to have a play through every year. I love many other FF games but FF8 remains at the top for me, my first FF game :) and always my turn to when I don’t know what to play :)

FF8 is a banger, worth the time and learning

One challenge I set myself is to finish the final boss with the first three characters that are arbitrarily selected to be the party, without fail. This means, first off keeping their levels balanced and not just playing favorites. Then, playing in the first style you mention because I hated and avoided Triple Triad, and blithely unaware of the power of Refining, arranging to have a complement of GF's on all characters that Junction and boost all stats. Which doesn't happen by itself, you have to map out what you have or don't have, and then Teach the GF whatever abilities are needed to fill in the gaps, and Junction them to the right characters accordingly. And then mind-goblin your way to collect and hoard 100 each of decent if not perfect junction boosts. I've unfortunately now lost my graph paper sheet with this solution, but I remember doing it.

44:32 ; I've played this game about a dozen times and I never realized Irvine didn't shoot because he knew Edea was Matron. That totally changes my whole viewpoint of Irvine, who was my least fave character. Thank you. Gonna have to replay it again. XD

JK Rowling and Ridley Scott suffer from "George Lucas syndrome". "George Lucas syndrome" is when an artist creates something genuinely great, but their obsession with it won't allow then to leave it alone. This can but won't always destroy the original work.

I love ff8 and this video rocks. That being said, Squall is SUPER emo. That dude probably has wake me up inside set as his alarm clock.

I was introduced to FF8 by a classmate, afterwhich i tend to seek answer on the high seas, stumbling onto FF6, which becomes my #1 whilest FF8 being a solid #2 for the Final Fantasy Games itself, followed by Tactics, whilest non-FF i only played Secret of Mana and ChronoTrigger lateron, with only having played the latter around its 20y anniversary

Complaining about the junction system because holding x to farm mindlessly doesn't let you overpower every boss says a lot more about the complainers than the game

Can someone explain the SeeD DeeS thing

I mean...sure...the Junction system is "flawed" but that's a mindset thing imho...most everything is flawed, but what we do with it and work around it, is what makes it special to begin with. Sure, your stat will slowly decrease if using a junctioned spell, but is that so important if you can wreck a boss in halve the turns? If you lose 20 casts of a spell...just junction a 100 stack of an equal spell or...just auto junction again. The tedium of drawing...yes...exists, but it ignores the fact, that you can use GF abilities to "mass produce" magic. If one ignores mechanics the game gives you, you can't complain that the other 50% are making everything boring or bad.

This is my favorite FF game. I want to show it to my BF but I always felt like the mechanics were too complex and boring. Would love to hear more about that easier gameplay you mentioned.

When i heard the news, i entered a depression and stopped playing completely. I had grown so attached to this game instead of playing overwatch 2, I played G EVO every day after school. I had just unlocked Zaku 2 (melee)... I'll still look at my steam achievements and reminisce over the 2 achievements i still needed.

The English localization of the game changed so much dialog it made some characters seems worse like Squall and Rinoa.

THE FUCKING NEOPETS SHOP! OMG IM DEAD! This game was my favorite. I preferred it over ff7 due to the strange love story. The epic music. The weird card game. I wish this game got the love that 7 did. It feels like final fantasy stopped being good shortly after.

just beat it last night. this is one of the best games of all time.

I wrote lyrics for Laguna’s theme cos it’s that much of a timeless irresolute Banger. That battle music is just amazing… I’m glad you brought it up, cos like there’s a lot of video game songs that go hard, but this one hits so hard. That’s why I kinda made my own lyrics out of it.

First playthrough: Wow this story is great, but hard. Make it to Disc 3. Disc. 3. It FINALLY sinks in that I need MORE magic, not just 1 magic, to get the effects. Restart. Become DISGUSTING before leaving Balamb. Breeze through game using pretty much just Squall and Attack. Once the junction/mod/refine systems are understood, the only diffocult enemy in the game is Omega.
