What resos did you use?
I can't remember exactly but it''s highly likely we used G1s. Check out our new channel www.youtube.com/@JustAddDrums as we'll be doing lots more comparisons over there along with a comparison of reso heads very soon!

UV1 heads for me
What reso heads for the toms?
Evans G1 Clear! Make sure to follow our new channel with content dropping next week! www.youtube.com/@JustAddDrums
Guys it's been 3 years but i have a question. People tend to use 2 ply heads for durability but isn't a 10 mil single ply head more durable than a 7.5x2 two ply head? Because it's a 7.5 mil on top which you constantly hit. And of course easier to damage than a 10 mil one. I never broke a single ply head but lots of G2s and emperors.
You know what, I really don't know because we change our heads frequently due to the tone being lost once the elasticity has gone. However, you have definitely given me an idea for a new video, I'll just need work out how to do it! In the meantime Jack and I will be launching our new channel (@JustAddDrums) in jan 2024 that is completely drum focused. We have more comparisons and shootouts on the way! Please give us a subscribe at www.youtube.com/@JustAddDrums
@@decimalstudiosuk congrats on your new channel. just subscribed now. would be nice to see a durability test vs 1 and 2 ply heads.
@@the_rummer Thanks! We'll just have to work how to actually do that. I'll have a chat with Jack and see what we can come up with :)
I've been playing coated G2s and coated Tom heads period, for over 20+ years but those EC2 clear heads sound pretty killer. What's the biggest difference you think, anyone w experience? Thanks!
UV2s on all the toms and the HD dry on the snare.
Black chrome on the snare with ec2 on the toms
Parabéns pelo vídeo!
What notes did you tune the Tom's too? Sounds killer mates!!!
Sounds like C and G on the toms! Please subscribe to our new channel that will be launching in the new year: www.youtube.com/@JustAddDrums
@@decimalstudiosuksubbed! Thanks guys!
This has to be one of the best comparison videos I've watched on YT. Great, great job you guys!
Thanks David! Please subscribe to our new channel that will be launching in 2024, we'll be releasing two videos a week! www.youtube.com/@JustAddDrums
Saved this video sometime ago. Saw it popped again. Came back for that groove.❤️🔥
I literally can't hear any differences.
Use headphones
Anyone wanna confirm: I'm A-Bing the Hydraulics and the HD Dry on the snare in this recording and they sound almost identical--except for a very small amount more overtone ring from the Hydraulics.
What drums are you playing? Flanged or die cast hoops?
Mapex sonic saver - which I believe are die cast :)
thanks for this
Where can i find that black chrome snare head at ? Looks incredible
It's not a head specifically for snare but you can find it by searching google 'Evans TT14CHR'
Thanks, this is very helpful!
i use tha classic G2 Clear and G1 Clear combo on my personal drumset, while my bass drum uses obviously an Emad! i wish Evans would make a EQ3 for toms because i would use those in a heartbeat
Que parches estas usando en la parte de abajo De los uv1 ??
Sorry, we don't speak french. Do you speak English?
brother, I wrote to you in Spanish not in French haha the question is: what patches are you using on the bottom of the uv1? Blessings
@@jaredsuazo2711 Apologies! I must have been in a rush as I know that's not french. I believe we were using G1s.
I have uv2 on my kit now but I have the red hydraulic coming in the mail. Opinion, what one did you like better without the mics on?
All down to personal taste! The reds are more dead with less overtones whilst the UV1 are more open.
Thanks. I have to say I don't understand why I never hear some rolls on these heads that are being demo'd. Just some singles and some doubles for just a couple seconds would be nice.
Excellent comparison! Love the sound of the toms (with every head), and you picked a much more interesting groove than the standard 'snare-tom-tom-tom' fill. Gives a very helpful contextual sound. That said, if I went back to coated heads (over my current G2 clear) I'd probably do the UV1.
UV1
Do you have a tuning reference for us to see what you used tks
I can't remember what we tuned to but we use this tuning method as detailed in our blog: www.decimalstudios.co.uk/decimal-blog/2019/11/19/how-to-tune-drums-to-notes
HD Dry, EC2
HD Dry on snare w/coated G2s on toms for me - but ask me again tomorrow! They all sound good. It's just a matter of matching the right tone to the project.
HD dry and EC2 clear sounds best to me when I watched the video on my cellphone but when I watched the video using my home theater sound, definitely the UV'2 was a killer. Love it.
Well I've been thinking about the dry one, It'd be good for hip-hop. Jaystiqs was demonstrating and promoting it on a tasty video and it got me thinking.. Annoyingly, i like the sound of the red one, but i have that one! and can't get satisfied with it. I have a yamaha stage custom jazz fusion setup.. In a barn with very little sound dampening. Does the fact i have an old remo resonant skin make a difference? Never too sure on that one.. Also should i consider new snares? They 'seem' fine.... Thanks, i'd appreciate any info.
We always LOVE new skins so it's definitely worth a go with the resonant skin. Most people don't replace them as often as they should but they do lose their elasticity! We also like 40 snare wires, gives the extra sizzle!
Whatever happened to the EC1 coated heads (toms and snare)? I have a set and love them, not sure why Evans stopped making them and I don't see any reviews. My next set will be UV1s.
Have they discontinued them? They seem to be available online to buy and I have used them on my last few sessions.
@@decimalstudiosuk I'm not sure... the Evans website has no mention of them other than the EC1 Reverse Dot Snare Batter. I pulled my Rogers kit out of storage and tuning up now with the EC1s.... UV1 set arrives tomorrow, but I'll probably keep the EC1s on for awhile and see how they compare.
Sorry I misread your comment, Yes the EC1s seem to be unavailable, I guess they discontinued them.
UV1 is for sure my go to head for any situation if you were to ask me to pick one. Reasoning being that dampening can always be added. But you can’t gain resonance.
Yeah they are great! I'm using them for vintage style drums at the moment.
The UV1s were definitely my favorite. They provided the most balance between the attack and the tone of the drum. I like that Evan’s describes them as “Pre-EQ’d” because it is an accurate statement to the sound you get with them.
Yes, agreed on that one!
What do you think about g2 clear all toms and g2 clear for bass drum too?
Jack and I are actually using G2s for all our modern sounding sessions. They sound great open with lots of sustain.
Mapex for life!!!!!!!! Hell yeah
I’m using uv1 on vintage leedy 15” snare drum. The selling points are sound, but the uv coating looks new after thousands of whacks.......that was a nice demo. The original hydraulic heads , probably those reds also, would sound better tuned lower and with more dampening, a real dry Stax, 70s sound, (imo) Badaboom
Hydraulics
The UV2 were easily the best open sounding. I have the black chrome and can now see I should have chosen differently.
My favorites from best to worst: UV2, EC2, G2 Coated, Black Chrome, Hydraulic Red, UV1 in that order.
just bought massey drt. this taught me how to use it in like 5 min. Great video!!
Glad I could help! And hopefully you find the pro tip of tabbing through the transients to check they are perfect helps even more!
I've been running UV2s on all my toms lately but I think I might switch to UV1s for the 10" and 12" rack toms, leaving UV2s on the 14" and 16" on the floor. I'm interested to hear if the sounds still blend well across the kit while letting the smaller shells sing a little more easily
Well done Gents! I can see why you like the EC2's. Very helpful video.
You really should do more of those. Amazing work and one of my favourite albums!
We would like to but we found that they are very time consuming. We might be producing a course in the future and we'll be creating content to match that for youtube. What would you like to see?
@@decimalstudiosuk It looks very time consuming, yes. Well, i hope for new ones once the time and opportunity comes. :)
Really liked the red Hydraulic heads on the toms as well as the black chrome heads on the toms!
Man does somebody really like hydraulic reds except for the looks? I hate those heads jesuschrist
People like them more than we thought!
Are the ec2 durable in your opinion
Sorry totally missed this... Yeah we still have them to this day and have used them multiple times!
