Sketchy Foam Tire Repair
In today's video, I'm putting the "Sketchy Foam Tire Repair" method to the test - that is, using spray foam insulation to fix two non-repairable tires on my trusty wood splitter. Besides being an interesting experiment, this project has a practical side too: saving money! Replacement tires for my wood splitter would cost me nearly $300, which is 3x more than I paid for the entire machine.
As you might recall from one of my previous videos, I mentioned that I'd be trying out this foam tire repair trick. And now, here it is - the moment of truth! Nor am I just winging it; I've done some research and believe that this method might actually work for something like my wood splitter, which gets used maybe once a year at most.
So, let's take a closer look at how the sketchy foam tire repair works. First, you'll need to prepare the area around the tire by cleaning off any dirt or debris. Then, you'll need to drill a couple of holes in the tire itself. Next, you'll fill spray foam insulation to the inside of the tire, making sure to fill until some is coming out the holes.
Equally important is allowing the foam to dry completely before moving on. Check that the tire seems solid and still adheres to the rim and all the appropriate stuff. In addition to being an affordable solution, this sketchy foam tire repair method also seems like a pretty cool hack - who wouldn't want to try fixing their tires with something as unexpected as spray foam insulation?

    much easier wat use the claw of a hammer you can wedge it down to the wheel spindle then work on ry off by getting it closer the peg that goes up into the chair bottom if it just widens the wheel space you can then work claw under the wheel where the top cover is over the wheel it will pop off easy then just tap spindle to get other wheel out

    Thank you for your video. So far you are the only one I came across using Sonoff SV other than GPIO14. Thank you. You physical wiring is not easy to follow esp the motion sensor RED wire connect to Sonoff SV GPIO04. The red wire is 120V. How does it work with SV. Thank you.

      I believe those wires are feeding the 120v relay that provides the dry contacts for the sonoff, not going to the sonoff itself. There is a relay in there.

    I tried the built in Z-wave migration and it was a disaster, so I was stuck on 2021.12 with old Zwave for years (job, wife, two young kids), and finally Memorial Day 2024 I have a full day to myself and follow this guide (even outdated a little today) to successfully migrate to ZWave JS UI (formerly ZWave JS2MQTT) and throw caution to the wind and upgrade to latest Home Assistant and go from SD card to external M.2. Some minor but managable issues, but biggest new one is HA is becoming unresponsive about once a day. Unknown if it was the jump from 2021.12 to latest, the M.2 or something else. Going back to SD card for now. Thanks for the video!

    • @Whatarewefixingtoday
      @Whatarewefixingtoday 4 місяці тому

      There are a large number of old custom integrations that mis-behave. They were written not thread safe, and with HA using python 3.12 now those have started doing things to HA like you describe. Look at this forum page and see if you have a naughty custom integration. If you do, remove it and look-see if the author has fixed it. community.home-assistant.io/t/tracking-down-instability-issues-caused-by-integrations/724441

      @@Whatarewefixingtoday Thanks again for your wonderful video covering this migration. Probably the best around. I've fixed or recreated most of my automations that were not working. Replaced the external m.2 NVME to a m.2 SATA and it has not locked up. If I understand this correctly, I still switched to ZWave JS, I'm just using ZWave JS UI (formerly ZWave2MQTT) just to manage devices correct? I also saw a setting to disable MQTT Gateway. That doesn't mess with MQTT right, only as it states under "Enable this to use ZWave JS UI only as control panel"?

    We have one similar to this one. My issue is that someone took it apart and now the wires coming off the solar panel (black and red wires) broke off somewhere and I don't know where to resolder them back to. The battery wires broke off too. I am having difficulty trying to figure out which wire goes where. Lol

    • @Whatarewefixingtoday
      @Whatarewefixingtoday 4 місяці тому

      That's sad. Time to get out the thinking cap. If it is similar though all the lights are powered on at the same time, so after the power comes off the battery and switch stuff, all the reds are together and all the blacks are together. The flashiness comes from inside the LED's themselves and they just always get power.

      I don't think the power use is much different for a single motor, but a higher voltage for the motor to me makes cold weather starts better. Less current in the line is less loss from resistance in the connections/wire. There is a reason that cross country transmission lines are a hundred thousand volts and not 200 volts. Line heating. Also load balancing.

      I'll think about it. It would likely involve feeding the kids phones all back thru the home router with zerotierone as a proxy and then adding adguard or pihole to filter out known porn sites. Look that stuff up, I'm sure there are videos about that already. Might be able to do the filtering in pfSense, but I'm not one to re-invent wheels.

    The reason manufacturers don't recommend anything but pellets in your stove is because pellets don't burn as hot as wood or gas. Wood burns hotter than gas and requires a steel or stainless steel duct, cap, and sealant that won't catch on fire. If your pellet stove was installed with the minimum requirements (aluminum duct and cap) it can melt if you burn too much wood, but a piece or two is probably okay.

    • @Whatarewefixingtoday
      @Whatarewefixingtoday 7 місяців тому

      By law pellet stoves are limited to like 500 degrees at the output flue temp at the stove. If it gets too hot, the pellets stop. If you have a chunk of wood in there, it can't control that heat. I get it, but I do it anyway. If you are using aluminum flue pipe that is not code anywhere, that is a dryer vent. My output flue is the double wall stainless pellet stove pipe that runs less than 10 foot into my chimney. A chimney that was originally built for a coal furnace. It is very rough on the firebox, so it is not for everyone. I need to rebuild it and make new parts every season.

    Hey what do you run the bottom 3 settings at for max heat

    • @Whatarewefixingtoday
      @Whatarewefixingtoday 8 місяців тому

      The first number only has an effect if you have connected an external thermostat. If you do have one, the first number is the setting of the stove when the thermostat is NOT calling for heat. When the thermostat is calling for heat, it goes at the rate of the top left number. The 2nd number on the botton scales the temp where the stove decides if there is a fire going or not. It sets the point where when you start a fire, it decides there is a fire, or if the fire goes low, it sets the point that it stops feeding pellets. The 3rd I don't remember, but I think it is something with the fan speed. So none of them effect the amount of heat coming out at all.

    You don't know me, but we are friends though DrZzs. I recently lost my mom. She lived with us for the last year of her life, and I was her full-time care-taker. I used Home Assistant to automate for her lack of mobility, her failing eyesight, to keep her warm, and to give her a way to call for help in the middle of the night. Everyone's loss is unique. Everyone mourns in their own way and at their own pace. You've got friends all around you to help with whatever you're in need of, many whom you don't even know in person. Keep on keeping on.
