Primus 70

Lighting a Primus No.70. Probably the simplest pressure stove there is, dating from around 1926-30.
Muy lindo el video. Hay más vídeos??
Fireproof glove and a good fitting cylinder over the the whole stove or over just the bell flame head, right down to the top of ths tank. = starving it of oxygen. You might be able to get a cap with a safety valve incorporated. Lovely bit of working history. Thank you for sharing. Take care
this is a white gas stove. no control valve, so it runs at full heat all the time. no safety valve either, so an explosion could be a real possibility if you don't know what you are doing. blowing the flame out might work in the first few minutes of operation, but once the flame really gets going, i don't think so... i'm thinking the stove will need to be immersed in water to extinguish it, because if you let it run until all of the fuel is exhausted, the wick in the vaporizer will burn up and need to be replaced. overall not a very good design, the 71 with a control valve works much better.
You take the filler cap off
VERY GOOD
Excellent....Very Nice Video
Sorry, but this method is nuts. One could use methyl, but I simply allowed a few small drops of fuel out of the jet (by regulating the key) and then -- using a MATCH not a Bic lighter -- lit the small pool of fuel. A SMALL flame warmed the fuel reservoir nicely. No soot or huge flameup and no doilies scortched. That was in 1971 in Greece and I haven't replaced any parts on my 71 as they don't need it.
Not any more
Just me that thinks he sound a bit liike Mr. Bean? or possibly a mix between Mr. Bean and Mr. Atkinson ^^
hi mate thanks for this beautiful video I have one of these stoves , complete with original instruction manual, best regards from malta
@8259r When this model was introduced, around 1930, it was aimed at the motorist and motorcyclist; providing a powerful stove in a small package which could be readily fuelled from a vehicle's petrol tank & primed with the same fuel thus obviating the need to carry a second fuel for priming purposes. Primus' lighting instructions are still valid to-day and although the use of auto fuel is generally discouraged, Coleman fuel or Aspen 4T are perfectly acceptable substitutes.
Now I know. thank you>
@8259r Suggest you read the manufacturer's instructions for this model.

I've just found one of these in my garage. It was my dads from many many years ago. Still in the original tin and nice and shiney ! Fresh spirit and it was like it hadn't been hidden for 40 years..(or however long)

@mta798 No, it's a civilian camp stove from the late 1920s.
hi mate i thing is a ex army stove of second great war
You can find heaps of them in eBay.
I have the same stove, I have done everything you have suggested, but I only get a dull candle like flame at the jet. I an using coleman fuel. I have now pulled it apart looking for a problem . There is a type of wick in the bowl, no idea how I'm going to get it back in. Any ideas on why it wouldn't light properly. Regards Malcolm
Love the old Primus stoves! Thanks for the instructions!
The Argau Camping Toasters would be a great accessory
I have one of these, even the same box and everything, complete with original instruction manual, absolutely magic little stove! :)
@vasixstrings1 kerosene should work,i bought a number one primus stove the yesterday for 5 bucks soaked the leather plunger in vegetable oil over night then stuck it on the end of a texta to expand it a bit replaced the filler cap seal with a o ring then unblocked the jet with some steel electrical wire and had it going a couple of minutes after that.you can make everything you need for the primus and probably this type aswell
Thanks now I can light mine.
I found one of these stoves in my garage...but I can't get it to work....I have followed these instructions to the letter, but it still won't pump the flame up nor will it sustain a flame...can anyone suggest a fix for me....by the way love this video
they go for a lot more than that m8he
@canuckplaya100 One tank would last about 4 hours on this stove.
PS..I really like your videos. All of them. Al the Stovie Oklahoma, USA

Hi, Thanks for a really super 96 Video! I LOVE this video, and have watched it a zillion times. Taught me how to use a Primus. I posted one similar, on you tube, but it is done in your honor, out of respect. Algentry1
They are a good lamp, I have one myself
Excellent....This is a very cool video.. Thanks.. Al in Oklahoma
what nice dogs!
Gotta love those old stoves...
When you think of the beautiful, functional things that were available in days gone by, you realise that we haven't progressed at all.
The fuel should be Coleman fuel. You can use body shop Panel Wipe which is naptha. Naptha is the stuff in the hideously expensive Coleman fuel.
Nice little stove. Is it fueled with meths?
That is a thing of beauty.
wonderful Ive got one and a load of other stoves, (why oh why did I ever visit a stove forum) enjoyed seeing it lit thanks
Ah, those were the days. It was after doing that that my wife decided that the Trangia meths stove was the best approach. Certainly brought back some memories from the 60s.
