Premier1 is a good company and we’ve used them several times for poultry fencing, etc. and when I purchase another one, I will buy one with the domed top. It keeps the chicks from getting up there and pooping all over the place. They make such a mess.

    Egg laws around the world are daft, we dont wash or refrigerator our eggs , the refrigerator part possibly due to climate differences, but our laws are the exact opposite and say the shell protects the egg washing is more likely to spread/encourage bacteria. Everyone has to follow their own laws obviously but it's crazy how they differ so much .

    I'm new to raising quail and have a question about their care. Are there any specific medical treatments, supplements, or vaccinations that young quail chicks need after hatching to ensure their health and proper development? Or do they generally not require anything beyond the normal (of course high-protein) feed (and maybe sometimes vitamins or supplements) throughout their lives -including before they mature into adults-? I hope you understood my question. I don't know if I said the question correctly. And if I didn't give them anything like that would it be fine and safe to consume their eggs once they start laying? I have been confused for a long time and have been searching for weeks, but I cannot find anyone talking about this topic. I searched for it in another language and found many videos they say that quails should be given medicinal things (I don’t know exactly what it is or the names, as I have no experience with these things). Also I've been reading the comments and I appreciate how you answer all questions in the comments section with very detailed explanations!

    • @abdulrahmanhs8162
      @abdulrahmanhs8162 Місяць тому

      Also one more question I'm sorry. If I have a heating plate that doesn't have an adjustment temperature, how do I use it? I know that with adjustable temperature things like a normal red light bulb or a heat plate we decrease it every week by 5f til they're fully feathered but what about if it can't be adjusted? How do they use these?

    • @SimplyMadeHomestead
      @SimplyMadeHomestead Місяць тому

      All very good questions and my first suggestion is take a deep breath and relax. Raising quail are super easy and I have NEVER used any kind of medications. The first part of their life they do need a protein feed of 28% and then lowered to 22%. I’ve forgotten at what age it’s changed. We no longer have quail only because we now live on a bigger piece of property and have expanded in other areas. Needed to let something go. I have a playlist on raising quail that should answer all of your questions and more. I highly suggest watching them all. There is a lot of information in there from hatching eggs to butchering. The quality of their feed and the protein is what will keep them healthy. They also need grit. I add a small plastic pan in their cage with sand in it and they love it! They flap their wings and cover themselves with it which keeps mites away and eat it which helps them to process their food. Once again, I can’t stress it enough, watch all of the videos, you’ll love them. Quail only live about 2 years max and if housed in clean, not overcrowded conditions, they will live healthy and well. Like any poultry, sometimes they just die which won’t be your fault, just nature. Sometimes they’re may be a bully that is just mean and likes to beat up on everyone. If you see that it’s time for him to go to freezer camp (eliminated) and replaced with a nice male. If you ever do see a wound, gently treat with wound care (blend of iodine and distilled water). If you have any other questions, don’t hesitate to ask. I hope you enjoy the videos and have a wonderful day!

I don’t have an exact ratio as I add orange to a cup and then scent it with patchouli until I get the smell that I find pleasant. Eucalyptus, spearmint, peppermint are all good clean minty scents too. If you go to www.eocalc.com/ you’ll find tons of blends there. I love this website and it’s a big help. Another one is pink grapefruit (80% of the scent) with a little litsea and a tad patchouli. Have fun!

    Exactly what I was looking for. To build a fence with the same cattle panels, how far apart do the t-posts need to be? I'm using a total of 2 panels, gate included. Also, how to attach this gate to t-post rather than wood? Thanks so much for the easy instructions!

    • @SimplyMadeHomestead
      @SimplyMadeHomestead Місяць тому

      Glad to be of assistance! How to attach: I had some heavy 9 gauge wire that I made a loose fitting loop with. You could remove the barbs from barbed-wire fence and use that too. You could even use rope, but that would be just a temporary hinge. Now to keep the gate closed I put a 1” pvc pipe into the ground where you want it to be closed and attached a straight metal rod to the gate. This will secure the bottom off the gate. And finally I use another piece of wire on top of the gate to fasten it to the fence. As for the spacing, I am not exactly sure what you mean so forgive me if my answer is off a little. While putting up the panels as a fence, I will use 3 T-posts for every panel section, but overlapping each panel by 8-10”. This way two panels will share a Tpost. So if you are only using 2 panels together, that’ll be 5 Tposts. But it will depend on what you’re using it for. I also have 350-400# hogs and place an electric wire on the inside to keep them off it. I hope this helps, I will try to send a pic of the gate for clarity when I feed the animals this morning.

      We live in Florida so I just used sand out of the yard. But you can use builders sand that you can buy at Home Depot or Lowe’s. Use to it wasn’t very reasonable to purchase but I haven’t priced it in a long time. Use a kitty scoop to clean the pans and then just freshen with a little sand. It should last a good while for you. If they are climbing all in there and getting wet so may want to leave them for another week. You just don’t want them to get chilled because they can die quick.

Even after doing it for awhile I’d miss a female and suddenly have an egg in the pen. That would totally freak me out and my husband and I both would be on a major hunt until we found her.
