I took a trip from the busy buzz of the big city to the quiet cool of the countryside. Seeking simpler sights, I shifted from screen to shop. This lively lane laden with laughs and little lessons is less about what I make with my mitts and more about the mind moves. Sure, I could buy better bits from professional shops, but the heart of the haul is in the happy hops of personal growth.

I use that double-sided tape sold by shaper, it works great.
Yep, that is the nice one ; but my cheap ass wanted to see if I could find a similar one for half the price :)
Very helpful video. But man that ai narration is ROUGH.
Sorry about that
I gotta have one of these!
Thy are super nice. It's a workshop in a box.
Great woodworking but I had to watch it on mute. The narration was exhausting. The over description sucked the attention right out of me.
🥲
Pompous dialogue but I gave you a thumbs up anyway
I have mixed feelings about this comment :)
Hi Thanxs for this video! could you please share the svg templates?
Sure The corner jigs svg : drive.google.com/file/d/1-7VpmHJUwlkfIl4nNAG7ag0dEmMsl12u The saw blades storage svg : drive.google.com/file/d/1-CiuWt6R9wc_cuqGg1WKohfvxiAhrYhw You have to download them for a preview. Google drive shows you the code. It's possible to read it, but it's better to see it :) I add this to the description
Very poetic.
Thanks you ☺
I don't normally watch poets on UA-cam so I am hardly an expert, but the addition of imagery of someone working in a workshop did add to the experience of listening to your prose.
This is very kind of you.
dang I'm early on this video
😍
Are those cuts @10:37 for clicks? If not, then you really, really need to study documents like the BGHM advice. www.bghm.de/fileadmin/user_upload/Seminare/Holzbranche/TSM-Web_BG_96.18.pdf Ruined the video for me, having to go back and find that. All the best Tom
I think if you knowingly buy wood that's that thick you should buy a saw that can handle the job.
Well, in the end the saw handled. With multiple passes, but it handled. (and I have a bigger saw now)
Thats is a beast of a door.
That was the goal :)
Wow, that was a lot of poetry for 10am!
Far too much, Jeezluss! Spoiled what could have been an interesting video.
10M% better is the goal I’m always trying to achieve!
That's a minimum !
black stains behind the glass from the sealant look very untidy and spoil the whole work 🤔
This is the silicon seal. As soon as it was dry, a quick razor blade cleaning and it's not there anymore :)
I have that Powermatic chisel mortiser and am not very impressed. I just acquired an older machine made by Bridgewood. It's much bigger and more solid. Shame Powermatic isn't what it used to be. I also have several Felder machines and they never disappoint. One thing, I'm not sure I liked the constant commentary all the way through it. Less is more!
The one with the giant wheels? Yeah, the Powermatic isn't the best, and my dream was the PM22 Multico. But my bank account disagreed! :) And in the end I'm quite happy with the machine. I really like hollow chisel mortisers. eqbomultico.fr/mortaiseuse-multico-pm22.html
Well, Powermatic is no longer American made. It is what I call "Corporate Counterfeit" (also a major issue in the hand tool sphere) IF I was the 'decider' I would pass a law forbidding companies to make business that way. Meaning, IF you buy an American made machine or tool, or English made, or German made, or Swedish made etc. It would all be made in the country of origin....heck, same thing with cars. If I buy a BMW I buy it precisely because it is a German made car by Germans etc, not that it is assembled in the US of A. That's not what I'm paying for. Rant over. :)
@@eriklarsson3188 I am down to one Powematic machine to get rid of. It's that damn mortiser same as you have. I'm replacing it with an older machine made by Bridgewood. Way bigger and better even though it's made in Taiwan. BTW, I have a 24" bandsaw made by Felder. Guess what? It was made in the same damn factory in Taiwan!
@@philstevens9914 Thought Felder made their own bandsaws, our outsourced it to Italian ACM. Obviously corporate counterfeit as well, however, the Italians make the best bandsaws on the market so I could almost forgive it, after all, you wouldn't get a worse saw, but an equal or better saw.
@@eriklarsson3188 I've owned 2 Laguna bandsaws, one Bridgewood and one Felder. They are all the same design, just different colors.
Very very nice, plans available??
Thank you. I don't really have plan. I had a design that I made on illustrator for the panels, the general look and the joinery if you want. You can download it here : drive.google.com/file/d/1-6kjwRSOrVjTTDhEvPYHwcRG62yq8-Js/view But I found thicker bords than expected, I decided to make the double doors smaller and to add windows... So the initial design is not exactly what I ended up doing.
Good Day 🌅, Very Nice Work, a man after my own heart, I am retired English dude living in the Correze, Specialist Joiner/ Cabinet Maker , From prep of your timber a MAFELL MKS185, it is a lot of money but it will make easy work of your timber, I think you might like what I have WADKIN EKA, it will make short work of your Tenoner’s , Keep up the great work, From France.
The Mafell is amazing yes. Like any Mafell product. Amazing but expensive! You have a Wadkin tenoner ? As a hobbyist ? Well, I reckon you must have the most perfect tenons possible. I hope that you enjoy the Correze, that's a beautiful place.
Beautiful doors! 😍❤️
Thank you!! 😊
😍
Hey Fabian, are all your patterns are designed by you or you find them online? In this presentation!?
I design them on illustrator. This is a must have skill for the tool. You have a lot of things online, but they are often not exactly what you need. There was something on shaperhub that was almost what I needed for the rounding jig for example. But I wanted to do it with small metal studs. Shaper hub is an awesome resource if you want inspiration.
@@fabien-makes-things I found a plate plan on Shaper hub that is similar as yours except that it is 2 different plate size I though you used those and merged them together ?
I don’t remember exactly. But I think it was a merge of three different things. I really wanted a large plate and there was not a big enough one for me. And I wanted something in metric. And a lot of holes.
Man, I am sold...the tone and pitch in the description mixed to the craftmanship is totally amasing , no unnaceseary background music is a pleasure to the ears, the video shooting and editing is made with the same attention to details you put a lot of efforts in every aspect of this video and for that BRAVO, you now have a fan in Montreal!
Oh, this is very nice of you. Super canadian. My sister lives in your region. This is a beautiful place full of awesome people.
CNC, is great we had to change the templates back in the in 1970s to move the cut of the curves good old times your work is ace❤
thank you 🤗
A Fabian video that's talking about my favourite tool It doesn't get any better than this.
This is indeed a nice tool.
😍
It is made of from cheap construction lumber because no money left after buying all the fancy tools
Haha. Yes 😇 (but also I had this timber and no other use for it)
Thats a lot of aliteration
"Measuring my munchkin" is fun. But I'm proud of "Nasty knots need nixing".
Wow, what a great vid. The nitration reminds me of TV poets from the 1950's and 60's. Liked commented and subscribed.
Thank you very much. This is a lovely response.
@@fabien-makes-things Tut, obviously you've worked out I meant to say "narration".
@@Mr2at haha yes, I guessed that autocorrect ducked your message.
Super cool style! It's an excellent combination of quality audiobook and satisfying craftsmanship. Keep it up! My channel has a similar name, vaguely, but different vibe. I was partially inspired by @BillMakingStuff, also a UK fellow with a nice beard and glasses.
Thank you :) "Stuff" and "Things" are as differents as bits and bobs ! I hope you enjoy your journey into making stuff as much as I enjoy mine.
Do you have a link for that vise?
Hum. I cannot find it. It was a cheap thing on amazon.
He's an English man, and he just pronounced it as "vize" and even spelled is as vise? Apart from that, nice video.
Haha. I'm not english.
@@fabien-makes-things Ahh ok, you're just using our melt-like tones with an AI voiceover for added effect. 😂
@smokeybenj This is very close to my actual voice. However, I'm really not good at speaking into a microphone. If I don't normalize the audio, it sounds like someone mumbling incoherently. Thank you AI.
@@fabien-makes-things😂
Excellent presentation and very enjoyable. Looking forward to more from this channel.
Thank you 🙏
😍
Fantastic if you have a workshop full of high tech equipment! 😮
@@Andymann63 I’m very lucky that have this workshop yes.
Great build! What is the model of your table saw?
This one was a Hammer B3 (I did not like the red so, I did paint it black). It was small but very capable.
Good stuff, man! Love your humor!
No. 1: The larch.
Erik, do you think you could recognize a larch tree ?
Great build… keep up!!
Thank you!
if chris morris made woodwork videos
That's a very nice comment :) 4 lions was hilarious.
🤩
Lost art of drawing out your projects..... nearly 60 now and this is what we were trained to do in our Carpentry/Woodworking Classes in Vocational High School.
Some people don't need it. They can go and design on the fly in their head. I can't.
Wow! What a word smith you are!! Thank you for the time spent.
@@jimaspinii7579 this is a very nice comment ☺️
Very nice artistry of getting a planned project in-flight and completed. Love it. "Measure Twice, Cut Once.", a familiar familial phrase that my Big Brother Teddy taught me, as we worked on many concrete and woodworking projects together...
Haha. You learn two measure twice by listening to your pairs or you learn it the hard way (thank you grandpa)
I'd prefer more instructional/straight forward commentary than poetry about the wood but looks like a nice finished product
Thank you for the compliment. I’m probably not the best for step by step instructional videos. Too much responsibility 😅
I’d prefer it to be both instructional and in iambic pentameter. Perhaps also delivered in your best Sean Connery?
❤
