The turntable at GWR swindon is still there, but sadly in a poor state, as an employee at GWR and young man in my early 20's i watched it being used many times marveling at how just 2 men could mover such immense machines with relative ease. fond memories.

47077 was the hardest to spot in my spotting years. She came through Church Stretton on the Cardiff to Crewe line one evening though. Must have been 1976/early 1977. I've slept since then! Good to see her looking so well looked after

I have just found this video and i love it . I am always looking at the live railcam at Blue Anchor station and always wondered what it would be like to travel that line . I wonder if the passengers at Blue Anchor station know that a guy thousands of miles away in Australia watching them .

Depends on the geography. On this line there is the climb to Washford from Blue Anchor and then the constant climb to Crocombe Heathfield from Wiliton.

Whatever happened to BRs 1Co-Co1 10201-3 I used to love watching them hauling coal trains from Nottingham through St Albans or occasionally guesting on LMR west coast line

In the late 60s 1966/67 travelling on holidays or weekends in Wales many a journey a Warship would break down to be assisted into Cardiff by a BR class 4 a and once by a GWR Hall or steam loco. I was a student and had been a train spotter as a lad and always found it amusing as BR were quickly scrapping their steam roster. As you mention double heading with diesel was sometimes used.
