Jon, your tutorials are amazing, man! I'm kinda hitting a slight road block when setting the static route to the internet on my vSRX. I'm not terribly sure which set of IP's in the VMWare I need to be focused on to set the next-hop in the routing-options. Is it the VMnet0, VMnet1, or VMnet8? Any help is much appreciated.
By the way, just took the voucher exam for JNCIA and passed. Little more study time and I will be taking the exam within 30 days. Wish me luck. I passed my CCNA in 1999...back before they actually had routing and switching in the exam. It was more like Netowk+ back then.
Im glad you're enjoying the content! So you want to set your static default route to point to the next-hop IP Address on the VMnetwork that points to the internet. You also want to ensure that you have corresponding security zones and security polices in place that permit the flow of traffic from one zone to another. Hope this helps.
Great work. Appreciate your videos
I think the polarity on the vb50’s D-tap port is the reverse of D-tap cables. What workaround did you find for that?
Very good information and creative way to set your gear up. Love this!
I appreciate that. Glad to hear you enjoyed the vid!
Wow the sensor on that Panasonic camera seems to have a huge spot like if you tried to clean it with your fingers.

Hey Jon - I've been looking into getting a mini-pc/server to start up my eve-ng lab journey - how's your mini-pic (Minisforum UM773 Lite) been? Any issues?
Hi Fabian, that's awesome to here. I enjoyed it for the time that I had it. The UM773 will last most folks starting out a long time if you sole purpose it for labbing. However in full transparency I did end up returning it for a more beefier travel server for my work needs. Though I do miss the size of the UM773 as it incredibly small in comparison.
Thanks for the reply and transparency! I know you’re in a Sales position now, but are there any plans on expanding into videos about protocol redistribution, MPLS, NAT etc? I find your content extremely helpful w/ the way you explain & showcase different technologies!
@@FabianEdouard No problem, and glad to hear you've been enjoying the content. As I've begun re-studying for another JNCIE certification my goal is to begin posting more network lab tutorials this year, so stay tuned!
@@jongreenit This is great news! Good luck with studying and Happy News Years!
Much appreciated and happy new years to you as well!
happy new year and thank you bro🫡💯🔥 really enjoyed the video
Thanks, glad to hear you enjoyed the vid! More to come.
The answer would be: 1. 172.16.31.254 last host 2. 172.16.31.255 Broadcast 3. The next network as you show would be 172.16.32.0/20 Let me know if its correct.
You crushed it! How'd you find the process?
I took the 32 value as you showed. Each 32 value would be a new subnet. Let me know if that analysis is correct.
@@walterbortone6410Your answer was correct but the logic is not quite there. Double check the Block size value used for the /20 and your logic will match. Once you've had a chance to confirm the block size value, see which subnet comes after 172.16.32.0/20.
Could you like show the resume you mentioned because honestly i just want a concrete real resume that has been used and wzs successful
When I have some down time, I'll put something together going over this topic exactly. #CRQ
@@jongreenit thankssss, especially the one with no experience if you still have it somewhere
@dnflittlecookie No problem!

You've got this!
Is technical support engineer going to ever faze out with the rise of AI?
That's a fair question to ask, I'm actually in the works of putting together a video going over this exact topic. In short my answer is no, while the introduction of AI will change how engineers go about doing their day-to-day job - it will not replace them. AI and automation helps to reduce the need for engineers to work on repetitive task allowing engineers to free up their time to focus on the problems that aren't common and can't be solved by AI. #CRQ
Can I use in dualboot with windows?
I haven't tested that, let me know if it works for you though
This is so helpful.
4094 straight and to the point. What device are you using for calculating
You nailed it! In the video I referenced the subnet calculator from the website: www.calculator.net/ip-subnet-calculator.html
I'm good to about /19...lol! The biggest one I actually used was a /20 for a Civic Center wifi project.
Yeah most networks aren't that large for segmentation purposes.
I just got my ccna from college, and im more then half way through my comptia A+ cert but im working as a drop burial tech for a cable company right now and I feel as if my IT skills are going to waste. What do you think? Do you think I should stay with the company and get certs on the side or go for something more?
Hey first off kudos to you on getting your CCNA as that is no small task starting out. It's also an accomplishment for you to already have a job that's providing you with relevant IT experience. While the job you hold may not be your end goal, I'd suggest using it to continue building your IT experience for your resume. If you find your current role easy, well that's even better because now you can really leverage the downtime you get at work to pursue the next certification or developing the skills needed for your ideal future job!
Thanks for sharing your story Jon. I appreciate it much.
No problem at all, I'm glad to hear you found it useful!
Seems that this example does not suit an SRX in flow mode (Firewall) but rather one in packet mode (Router)?
This would be correct this demonstration is for how you'd configure bgp on a non-firewall device
On a firewall you'd need to also ensure the correct security zones and security policies are in place to permit the bgp traffic between the neighbors
how much it cost you to archive that number?, which lab did you use
I honestly put in a couple of grand in studying and paying for the cost of the exams and study materials. I definitely recommend using the self study bundle in preparation of the exam.
I picked up a used Dell Optiplex 7070 on Amazon for $325 with i7 9700T CPU w/v-Pro, 16GB RAM, 512 GB SSD and Windows 11. I upgraded it to 64GB RAM and added a 2TB NVMe 2.0 2280. It absolutely flies. I watched your tutorials on setting up eve-ng and have my JunOS images running on it. For some reason, I wasn't able to pull the vQFX (re&pfe) qcows2 images from Juniper...maybe because QFX product line is going EOL...not sure. EDIT: Dell Optiplex 7070 Micro Form Factor.
Oh that's nice, yeah I believe the vQFX image had been decontinued and replaced with the vEX (vjunosswitch). It's alot easier to use since you only have to spin up one device as opposed to two.
Very well said
Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!
What are the roles of Network Engineers sir ?
Thanks for watching! This video is actually part of a series on the channel where I dive into different aspects of networking and IT careers-feel free to check out the rest for more insights. In short, a network engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining computer networks. This includes configuring hardware like routers and switches, ensuring network security, troubleshooting issues, and optimizing performance to keep data flowing smoothly. Let me know if you have any more questions!
I'd say we are wizards, witches, and sorcerers...to a degree. My office reaks of black magic and unicorn sacrifice each day I leave work. 😅
Would you say the VB99 is too heavy for run&gun travel? I want something that can accommodate shoots and more spontaneous filming (camera+monitor)
I'd say the VB99 is right in the sweet spot in terms of the weight trade off and battery performance, though this really comes down to your individual weight preference. If you're seeking something that's extremely minimal and lightweight go for the vb50. However, if you willing to sacrifice a little bit of weight for extended battery life without carrying around multiple batteries go with the vb99
oh man thats really helpful
5” not 7” screen btw
You are correct
Like explaining to a 5 year old…..Fantastic job
Nice, glad to hear you found the video helpful
😂😂😂😂
Just follow the PDNTSPA it works . U plugg and re plugg ude be amazed how much this fixes
We rarely see our sales engineer. He's always there when we need him though. Same with our Support Engineer. Now that guy is worth his weight in gold. Support engineer is sub-contracted by an IT company we work with to help us with some of the more complex elements in our network. We pay $300 an hour for his expertise...worth every penny. I'm sure the IT company gets their cut. The cool thing about our support engineer is that he takes the time to teach us while he working on our stuff at 2am. I just learned that OSPF and VXLAN use different methods of loop protection and they sure don't play nice together. Getting a pretty fair education on IBGP as well.
Nah more like I google 20 min then go... reboot the router lmaon😂
Mine after entering static IP it doesnt bring up the screen for Sub Mask and at the end it doesnt assign the IP
Make sure to hit the space bar to mark your selection before hitting the enter key. Otherwise dhcp will still be selected.
Hi! I want to pass JNCIE-SP. Help me please
Hi, what challenges are you facing in preparing for it?
wait i didnt know it had a battery to charge it i thought its just plugged in?
Yep, similar to that of a laptop charger
I love networking. But I don't need no job at all!!!
What fuels your interest in networking?
Hey man - How did you go from CCENT to CCNP? I thought the next logical step would have been the CCNA first, was it very difficult going straight to the CCNP? And what study materials did you mainly use?
I didn't, I completed the CCNA before pursing the CCNP. Back at the time the CCNA was split into two parts: ICND1 and ICND2. If you passed the first one then that qualified as your CCENT, and completing the second half gave you your CCNA. The certificate program I went through at MTC (community college) for routing and switching gave me a good foundational understanding of networking however for more advanced concepts that were covered on the CCNP I self-studied using CBT nuggets and virtual emulations software's like Packet Tracer, GNS3 and EVE-NG
Can I ask why you dont just fit the v mount plate directly to the built in arca swiss system on the small rig cage and instead have added a second mounting plate? I have been eyeballing this exact setup for a while so wondered why you wouldnt just use the cages arca swiss system?
Hey yeah so I didn't realize this at the time of recording this video but since then have tested that, using the built-in arca swiss plate on SmallRig camera cages for the fx30 and s5iix and it works flawlessly without needing to add in the extra arca swiss mounting plate. Thanks for point that out for the folks in the comments and happy holidays!

Hello Jon Green always love the content. I have a Cisco C1111 lte that does my nat, dhcp and Internet as it has a built in AP. Pretty nifty device but i I want to introduce a srx 320. Any suggestions on what I should do with the srx?
I appreciate that Zoltron! Typically you'd want to place your firewall, (in this case the SRX320), between your internal network and the internet, so the recommended path would be (Modem > SRX > C1111). This gives your firewall the ability to intercept threats attempting to enter your network. You could configure the firewall to be the gateway and do NAT & DHCP, or you could configure it in SecureWire mode in which acts as a bump in the wire and the modem and router don't even realize it's there. This would mean all the routing and services you configured on the C1111 could stay the same. I hope this helps!
@jongreenit Thank you for the idea. Really enjoy the content.
@@zoltron30 No problem!
