This is a stunning timed bike ride/race around Lake Winnebago going through 3 counties and many cities. This race is easily one of my favorites of the year. The video is a bit limited because somewhere during the first third of the ride I accidentally hit the "zoom" button on my Insta 360 Ace Pro which zoomed / cropped the remaining videos through the finish line. The 2025 has not yet been post...

Too bad I didn't see this 7-mos ago. I'd say report it to the police as that's aggravated assault. Also, the riders are riding almost at the speed limit of 25mph, the driver sped past in a no passing zone too.

A car driver using pepper spray, against a cyclist for no reason, is the lowest of the low. You’re already in a two ton vehicle, don’t be so cowardly. You’re just sour bc the cyclists are beating the system, while you’re too arrogant to realise that you’re the one, who’s being screwed by the system. Why don’t you try cycling for a change? It’s cheaper, healthier and you can fit 100s of bikes on the road, for the same space as a couple of dozen cars. If everyone who used their cars unnecessarily, rode bikes for short journeys instead. There would be much more space, for the fewer cars, less hold ups in queues and then petrol prices would come down on top. As well as car prices, if fewer people bought overpowered cars. The government would be forced to lower taxes on car users and increase them on cyclists, if cycling became a significant competitor to car driving. I’m just a lowly cyclist, always have been for 35 years, never had a car. I’d love to have a car though and I do understand the point of them, especially in bad weather and for long distance journeys. But the problem is that once people pay the ridiculous amount of money, for the privilege of car ownership. They have to justify all the expense, by using their cars for every little thing and then they also rarely if ever ride trains and buses. So the government has got you exactly where it wants you, driving around in your steel cell that just burns the hole in your pocket. You’re paying to drive and driving to pay, catch 22. You think your car makes you free, but it’s just a mobile prison cell and there’s no escaping the prison of life that we’re all in, cyclists, car drivers, truckers whatever. Except through our Saviour Jesus Christ. By your own logic, every time a truck comes to a queue of cars, he should plough through and ram you all off. What if I decided to buy a monster truck or tank, to pay you back your just desserts? No we have to resolve our differences with civility and non violently, or where does that path take us? Anarchy. We could also criticise the town planners and road builders, for not making the roads wider and safer. Cyclists have be patient at times too, as we all do. This is just a fact of life and we have to get used to it, even when we’re running late. At least nowadays we have phones to communicate with our children and people who we’re late for. It’s bad in the winter I know, I’ve been left standing in the ice, rain, wind and snow. I’ve had to walk many miles beforehand as well and that didn’t kill me, it made me fitter and stronger and gave me time to think. The trouble is we’re all rushing around and don’t have time to think that’s what the government wants, you get it? And where does it get us? To the next set of stop lights or junctions quicker? To the next queue quicker? To our graves quicker? That’s the final destination where we’re all heading my friend. Our time and Life is to precious, we must cherish and nurture it.

What the driver did was wrong, but so was chasing him down like that. Let road-raging drivers go, and don't escalate the situation by chasing and yelling at them. It will never end the way you want. It's better to run a camera and let the police deal with them than to put yourself in further danger.

Roads in the US are paid by folks who have residency here. There are local taxes that you pay (through your home) which go to the municipality.

My first time was this year and first big ride in many years. I learned a lot!! The head wind was a challenge and fragmented my wave (Wave 8). Wave 9 picked me up and had a large team of great cyclists. Got stuck at a train crossing in Oshkosh and had to wait about 8 minutes (they supposedly took it off our times). I live on the route and was able to train to it. Lots of volunteers around the course. The video brought back lots of memories, thanks! Fun time!!

Oh man, that's right there's a train crossing there which I forget since it has not been a factor for me yet. That would be a bummer if you're going for a personal best. I do find it a bit easier to try and start a bit faster than I normally would and then once the group drops me (on the climb), to latch on to as many folks that continue to pass me as possible.

Lot's of ups and downs, but only one "serious" (I use that term loosely) climb at the half way point for about 800 feet. If you want more of that then I would look at the Horribly Hilly which is also in WI. Has about 10k of climbing over 100 miles or so.

Always wanted to do Race the Lake but I haven't yet. As a Fond du Lac native, I have ridden that same route to Oshkosh. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and try it next year.

To be honest, if it wasn't for a team inviting me the first time I likely would not have done it as it can seem intimidating. Now that I've done it three times, it's become one of my favorites. It challenges you but not to the level of a l'etape du tour or Levi's Gran Fondo which have you doing thousands of feet of climbing over the same distance.

Yeah, they were. It may be legal where they are. If the lane is narrow then we cyclist can use the whole thing. By controlling the lane, we can prevent a lot of close passes and dangerous passes. I do it all the time. In fact the only time I ride in secondary is 1: If the lane is wider than 14 ft. and 2: When being overtaken and the oncoming lane is clear.

Bikes are considered a VEHICLE, holding to all the laws of the road and can use ANY part of the road they wish, so long as they don't purposely hold up traffic. These guys were single file, moving only to avoid hazards or a slower rider, which is perfectly legal for them to do. Yes, ONE rider crossed the double yellow, which he should not have done, but the rest were following the law.

Are you plated? Do you pay insurance to ride? Respect goes both ways. I see a lot of cyclists who want to stir up a hornet's nest. Auto Drivers can be real douchebags too. Ultimately, the cyclist loses in a car vs bike confrontation. Think about it... John Waine apparently said, "Life is tough, it's even tougher if you're STUPID".

You don't know what you're talking about. This stretch of road has signs that say vehicles must yield to cyclists. Not only that, it's a residential street with blind corners that no one should be driving fast on. BTW, there is a different section of road in this area where cyclists are not allowed to ride, which is why this particular road gives them priority. It's one of the busiest cycling routes north of Chicago.
