mokboh You are 100% correct. Retina is held to the back of the eye by vacuum. Hit to the head, impact to the eyeball or this will indeed increase the probability of retinal detachment if a tear occurs. I had a detached retina and luckily caught it in time before any permanent damage. Most people wait too long and the photo-receptor cells die; then it is too late.
