    So 2 1/2 years later how is it going? I've been trying to pull the trigger with quitting my job for a few weeks now. I can and I'm pretty close to financially independent, but everybody around me makes me feel so guilty about it. It's annoying how unsupportive people are. My issue is that my job is fairly easy, work from home, very high pay, but I just can't take the corporate bulls*** or the idiot customer even one more day! Nobody gets that.

    • @NickTShelton
      @NickTShelton 11 днів тому

      It sounds like you're in a solid situation. If you can, utilize that income coming in and dedicate your entire being to get a jumpstart on leaving that lifestyle behind. I know the corporate BS sucks. If you need the cash, stick with it a little longer and build a bigger cushion. If you are well off, get that mind right and ready to put in some work toward what it is you actually want to do. Good luck! As for how I am after taking my leap? I talked about how that job absolutely sucked and there were some unethical things going on. So, I bounced. My mental is more important than any dollar you can throw at me. I spent some time exploring some interests of mine. It was around this time that I actually started my UA-cam channel, so I got interested in creating content and built some skills with a camera. I'm still an amateur, haha, but I can get by a little bit. I knew I wanted to work with my hands so I did some work in construction but realized it wasn't really the path I wanted to go down within about a year. During this time I also purchased a struggling gym (no business processes from the old ownership and really just a hobby for them). I'm a problem solver and I love taking problems and creating solutions. So, I got my hustle on here... I bought the gym, stayed in the construction job to keep some funds coming in. Did both at the same time and hustled like you wouldn't believe. Today, the gym has more than doubled in membership base and I've created a culture of people that want to get better, not those that just check a box off. I have been a coach for over 12 years and have always kept some clients. Owned a gym before, so this was a good opportunity. The business is in a very healthy place with profitability and revenue has almost doubled in that time. As I mentioned, I knew the construction job wasn't my long term path, but I was building skills with UA-cam. I ended up leaving that job and picking up a fully remote job with solid pay where I help major brands create in-store video content. This job has given me a ton of flexibility (enough to build my gym into a solid brand in my local community). Eventually, I'll leave this job and move more to an autonomous life, but I'm doing some investing right now to build a strong support in the future for my wife and I, and hopefully, our extended family. It's been quite the path and a lot of late nights and early mornings, which is why I haven't been uploading to my channel as much lately. But, I'm here trying to build something for my wife and I so we don't have to be chained to garbage jobs with garbage people. I am addicted to pulling the best I can out of myself and other people. If you are going to quit your job with no backup plan, you gotta have an internal drive that refuses to let the "norm" sway you. You need a mind that can last longer than others, especially in the toughest times. I know I came out of this in a good spot, but if one expects this to be an easy road, full of chasing life's passions with no worry about money, it's wrong. A lot of negative self-talk and self-doubt was sprinkled in along the way, but I refused to settle for my view of mediocrity. Hope this helps to illustrate what can actually happen when you close a door in pursuit of another.

    I did this as well. I came from a construction background like you. I worked for 3 years at 3 different companies. After only 2 months of landing the job at my 3rd company, I decided to quit after I realized that joining a bigger better company doesn't make me happier as I was totally in the wrong career to begin with. I quit and started to drive Uber to sustain myself. I was kinda lost and in limbo for about 3 years. I tried my hands on few things here and there but unfortunately they're not working out for me. And everything hits me harder when COVID19 came along. But then in 2020 I got lucky. Another opportunity came along, I decided to take it and this time it actually worked out for me. I managed to switch career into something that suits me a lot better. I always look back on my 3 years of being unemployed with some bittersweet feeling. Had I not make the bold decision to quit and just hold on to the construction job for the sake of financial stability, I would have lived out the rest of my life as a miserable unhappy person. The fact that I've quit and become unemployed has turned me into a "nothing to lose" guy and allows me to try my hands on any opportunity that came along.

    What do I do if I've completely lost my motivation to work? I don't want any job. I don't want to waste my life working. Sounds like you are burned out. Part of what drives us is having purpose and having a sense of meaning. When you say “just live my life”, I’m not sure what you mean there. I’d start by asking, What is your definition of your ideal life? Then, reverse engineer that to develop an end goal.

You probably need to listen to the entire statement again instead of picking apart segments of a larger statement in an attempt to validate your limiting thoughts. If you’re going to get out of a tough situation, like quitting a job, you need to own the fact that there are no excuses when it comes to broadening your education to build a way out for yourself. if you want to take ownership in yourself and your actions, my content is for you. If that’s not you, I’m not for you.

    Part of my overthinking comes from fear of regretting a decision. So in my mind if I think of all the ways things could go wrong or all the pitfalls before doing it I’m protecting myself, but really it’s just a way to never start. I heard about 75 hard then started the next day, I’m over a week in and I’ve had to start over because of the minute details that aren’t in the original podcast but are on his website, like you can’t break up your 45 min workout or you can’t add anything to the water, but I’m still going. This hits home for me lately too… I’ve been reminded a lot that when we become Christian (fairly recent for me), life gets harder in some respects because you’re not making it easy for the devil anymore. You’re a formidable enemy now that you belong to God. I’ve experienced a new level of peace and contentment on some days but also unreal spiritual attacks on other days. I guess I’m worth fighting now 😂 Definitely in continual prayer & journaling to weather the storms. Thanks for sharing!

    • @NickTShelton
      @NickTShelton 2 місяці тому

      This is so true. I’ve been told the same thing. “When you grow closer to God, the enemy wants you that much more.” Haha, I like your humor! I do want to remind you though, you’ve always been worth fighting for. Sometimes, it just takes a while for us to realize that being a warrior for the kingdom of God is one of the highest honors we can be blessed to have. Be blessed, my friend! 🫡

  • @cjcr-28
    @cjcr-28 2 місяці тому

    I love this… thanks for sharing Nick! So weird I came across your video because I was in the CrossFit space for awhile myself - owned a couple of gyms. Didn’t grow up an athlete like you, but was in the space long enough to identify with it from an athletic and professional level. I started to deal with fatigue and other odd health issues that made me take a step back completely. I miss who I was physically, but I keep telling myself that even though I don’t know who I am or where I’m going, the “good ol days” don’t have to be behind me. I don’t know what’s next, and what level of fitness needs to keep being part of my journey in the future… but either way I really appreciate your perspective. If you can have been at the Games level and still found your way back as a different athlete/member, then maybe there’s a chance I can redefine myself if I go back without feeling like I need to meet standards again. I just figured the temptation to fall back to my old ways and be driven by ego would be too big that I should probably find a new fitness outlet altogether. Anyway, looking forward to checking out your other content!

    • @NickTShelton
      @NickTShelton 2 місяці тому

      I appreciate you checking this one out! Having been through the ups and downs after hanging up the competition shoes, it’s helped develop a different perspective. It’s taken me a long time to find purpose in other areas and it’s something I still struggle with in a sense today. I’ve found a lot of purpose in living a life like I would imagine God would want. I really miss the adrenaline I get from high pressure situations in sports, but there are many similarities I’ve found in other areas of life that help that fulfillment. At the end of the day, it’s a work in progress, but my identity can no longer be in worldly things and must be greater than myself. Again, I appreciate you watching and I hope to have given you a perspective you can take with you on your walk.

    I wonder, are North Americans aware that very little of the rest of the world, apart from maybe parts of Africa, have this view of Christianity. Most of the world is not evangelical and never speaks of spiritual warfare - it’s a thing that existed in Europe with the puritans and found itself in America with the pilgrims at which point it died out in Europe. There has been a minor revival but most of the world feels very uneasy with evangelicalism. In a secular society religion is a private matter for families and private time - not something to declare in schools and elections.

    Absolutely and utterly goldmine of a video. So much value and insight gained here, I'm honestly surprised and shocked that you only have 2.62k subscribers and this video only had 3.4k views. When I was about to finish the video, I was expecting to see millions of views from a really large youtuber judging by the quality of this video, but no it caught me off guard. Great work Nick, I really love this topic and I hate how it's so unspoken of and not very talked about these days. It's a mindset I also just recently discovered that I had and that I've been applying this "Toxic" champion mindset into various aspects of my own life (Like work, sports, some forms and aspects of business) and just all around getting used to others not liking me due to me utterly and absolutely wanting to win at all costs and mercilessly dominating my competition. God bless you brother. 🔥

      Thanks for the kind words, Patrick. It is much appreciated. It's a tough mindset for the masses to understand and it's what makes high performers reach heights others can't imagine. Please share it with others you feel can relate. Keep up the work, man. You aren't finished yet. God bless you, my friend.

      @@NickTShelton Haha yeah man of course, it's definitely a video I need to make and talk about myself Gotta give back and just share my story, give value, and hopefully try and inspire others while educating them on this very unspoken mentality. It's a very powerful one if used correctly, but it's one of those mindsets that you have to go all in on and fully commit to, otherwise you end up chasing 2 rabbits ya know? Really makes me wonder and ask: "Would you rather be feared or loved? If you couldn't be both?" A very ruthless mindset, but sometimes it's one of the only ways to win

    I was always told getting a college degree will open more opportunities! Well, yeah sure, but they are shit jobs that require hard work, debt, and a piece of paper that states, yes, I can do this shit job that a HS graduate or dropout could do.

      Yeah… it’s an interesting system. At one point, having a degree got you in the door to a lot of opportunities that weren’t available, especially financially. Now, there are people with degrees that make less than someone that dropped out of high school. The career landscape has changed but we are slow to change our minds to keep up. In recent years, people have pursued different avenues for education but we are still far away from that being the norm.

    Nice video- something I’ve been thinking about - I started on Feb 1 finished 75 hard and immediately began phase 1 done with phase 1 now- if I start phase 2 in 30 days it will put me done with it before end of July - leaving me August September October November and December - 5 full months before I can start phase 3 to finish for the year- seems a bit stretched out .. any thoughts?

      Personally, I would give yourself a break in between. Part of the challenge in 75 hard is to build the muscle of getting knocked off track and being able to show back up. It’s good practice to give yourself some time after 75 Hard and then pick back up again for Phase 1

    My Dream is to run at marathons but I have a lot of work to do to get there. Right now, my joints are screaming at walking which I do at 35 minutes per day as I live in the Caribbean and I travel via public commute and walking. But I notice a lot of videos where they are saying the ideal way to get back in shape over 50 is doing strength training, I would love to give that a shot someday. But share with us as best as possible, I could use a few tips from it as I get on this journey. Awesome video.

      Thanks for watching, Viv. I’m pumped to hear about your dream of running marathons! Sounds like you are putting in some work. You are correct, strength is king as we get older. Don’t fear the weight room. I know it can be intimidating but that may be your ticket to joint healthy, especially if you don’t have a lot of experience lifting weights. Just make sure you have proper form and allow yourself time to build up to heavier weights. I’ll for sure share some gym tips in future videos. I’ve been in the fitness world for over 20 years and coaching for 12 years, I’ve just never made too much content on that side of things.
