Taika Waititi's flippant nature is so refreshing! Every time I hear them speak about any topic, I feel enlightened and invigorated.
This is pure gold.
As someone who’s got a fairly late ADHD diagnoses I think armchair diagnosing someone with this hellish yet incredible disorder is almost impossible. However, after developing kind of a celebrity crush on Taika and watching more and more of his interviews I am willing to bet my first born child on the fact that this man has ADHD. I have never ever related to someone as much in my life - and that includes a lot of outspoken *diagnosed* people. His way of thoughtful emotional thinking but also absolute deadpan humor mixed with random anecdotes, losing his train of thought, randomly stimming and having the memory of a goldfish while being so passionate about creating is what has made my life so damn hard and yet beautiful for the past 19 years . I hope he knows the kind of inspiration he is for people of all backgrounds alike!

9:10 :))))))))
He gives me RDJ vibes. The ADHD, the analogies, the fractured thought patterns, even some of the same speech patterns and cadence.
... what does taika have against sourdough?!?!
Creatives probably need their own meetings.
parents and teachers need to hear this all but especially the last 5 mins
In luv with him
god i love him.
He is probably right about art and painting but my son passed away and he was a part time artist. I took up painting and it has helped me feel calm and some connection to my son. It is helping me heal, to be creative. I only give away my art. Most I have. I will never be famous or successful but success is measured in different ways for me
I’m glad painting has helped you connect with your son. If you didn’t know, Taika was a painter before he was a filmmaker. I think his comment isn’t about the medium but about what you’re talking about: how success is defined. In painting, galleries decide who’s a “successful” artist, whereas with film it’s different. We pay to see the movies and then can trash them or praise them. It’s a very different *commercial* metric for sure. But I agree with you. As an artist, success is defined in many different ways. I’m a musician, and for years my definition of being successful was simply that I be paid to play. Then COVID happened. I’m still a musician even though the gigs stopped. I wish you many comforting hours painting and creating.
Dear taika I know u never read this 😂 I just hear the audio commentary of Jojo rabbit and I'm realy disapointed cause u say nothin about the movie u just call everyone and talk about making the movie just like in the 'behind the scenes' material but not about the actual scenes in the movie. That's not what an audio comatary should be. There are so many scenes I would love to hear something from u (or another actor) but most of that scenes u just let the movie run... Peace and love and the film is great I cried at the end no spoiler xD
3:22 I had the same problem all my life. threw out all socks i had and bought 30 pairs of the same black socks. my life has never been better ever since!
There's very little room for improvement for Taiki to be more annoying. It's as if he trained to be annoying. For every second of a normal relatable guy sharing something interesting, there are 4 minutes of unfunny jokes and platitudes.
It's cool that he's a watch collector, he also wears the right watch for the clothes he wears
4:37
What a great interview
Your creation is a part of you. So focusing on being a better person and your creation will mirror you as a person
I kinda just want him and Jordan Peele to lock themselves in a room and see what they come up with 😂
why are u screen recording this on a iphone 🤔
🤣🤣👍👍
Chocolate cake pasta 😂😂😂
Hahaha "some nerdy film student goes, 'I think the theme is about loyalty.'" hahahaha. That made me laugh a lot. Lol He's funny.
Thanks. I hate him, and I don't even know who he is.
Taika, "The problem with a lot of artists or film makers is that they don't listen to the voices in their heads." So you should always follow the voices in your head unless your name is Charles Manson.
5:50 wow ! That's what I wanted to hear.
Marvel/Disney is where creativity goes to die these days. I know he's getting lots of ladies and lots of Lucci, but I hope he breaks free,of the "Super hero" trap, and continues with his own Hunt for the Wilderpeople is just Fantastic x4
Honestly I love this man
Tell me what you REALLY think. 09:15
Taika talking about socks and funeral is my therapy
he basically made crap mainstream superhero movies and "what we do in the shadow", sucks
try watching "Boy"
I love this guy.
Less is more. He nailed it.
Does anyone know where you can buy this shirt? I think it’s great
4.50 - If they didn't get it you didn't tell it well enough as a director or illustrate it right as an artist... It's your job as the creator to make people get what your trying to say... That doesn't mean you should do simple an banal shit... It's easy to have people 'get' that... What's hard is to have something quite abstract or complex or unclear and have people get that... That's like your whole job and purpose and an artist... If you put it on the viewer to make themselves get something then what the fuck do we need you for :P
the best
he is probably the only person who can give like inspirational talks like this that I can actually relate to and understand. because most of the time, for me at least, whenever people gives inspirational talk like this, it's just toxic positivities without actually being helpful. but this advises he gave, is the opposite of that. this is why he is my inspiration.
I think this dude and wes anderson are the best directors
Haha this guy is awesome! What an interview!
90% of this video was total crap. 10% was slightly better.
The thing about you(as well as the Russo brothers) is that you bring a great deal of respect and dignity into your work. How you treat and portray your characters, how you tell their stories is reflective of your great SELF RESPECT. Take Zack Snyder or the Buffy man. THEY dont have any self respect. THEY are flat out egoists. Perverted and NON-HUMAN. They will never have the impact and power that you and the Russo's have because they cannot love... Just look at the huge steaming pile of narcissistic sh!t that is the DCEU. ONLY Patty Jenkins and James Wan's films are meaningful, human and FULL of love. Everything else is a pile of shit.
When you realise this man was korg, hitler and developed an app in Rick n morty 😱
Isn't that the history of world's most polite vampire that was what we do in the shadows?
P R O C E S S - mix all the letters around and what do you get? C O R P S E S...and that...is Hollywood? Yo, Taika - no matter how many times I rearranged those letters you gave me I could not get CESSPOOL...what is the sercret of your creativity?!
All great directors 'fake it till you make it'. He is just the only one being honest about it.
loved this
This man has never uttered a coherent sentence in his life. Not a single one. And I love him for it, finally some good representation
I dreamt once that I met Taika Waititi on a bus, and I asked him to give me advice on writing and he said: you can't edit before you write it :O It was the best advice I was ever given. I would love to meet him just so I can tell him this. :P I know that he will not care, and I know that it was my brain that invented it. But still, it was so exciting!
That’s dope. Hopefully u get a chance to tell him one day.
well some people say dreams are real but in a different universe <3
THAT... is marvelous! "You can't edit before you write it" really speaks volumes to me. It's simple and profound at the same time, which is why this blows my mind! Thank you Ajnira's dream-Taika lol. And I think you're wrong about Taika not caring about it. I can't help but feel that he'll be honoured to be the figure that your brain chose to create to tell itself this awesome piece of advice lol
When you sleep your brain waves don't slow down. in the middle of rem cycles your brian waves increase so your thinking while you sleep.
That is really great advice. Good for you!
I needed to hear this no nonsense practical and entertaining advice... one creative to another... Hollywood or amateur... the struggles are the same!
