PRETTY , HANDSOME , RICH SON ON HIS WAY BACK TO EARTH😊
1:30 While geographically Brazil and Uruguay are not European, culturally 1920s Brazilian and Uruguayan urban societies very much were. Both Barradas and Tarsila were from rich european families and studied art in Europe. In fact, the Brazilian modern art movement intentionally wanted to create a more indigenous artstyle, including blending native motifs with modern art. Many of the non-european brazilian cultural traits, such as samba, carnaval parades, codification of capoeira and even the concept of a Brazilian national identity itself (as the one established by Gilberto Freyre) come concurrently or after the 1922 week of modern art. In Uruguay, Torres-Garcia's efforts to make a national school of art only comes in the 1930s. Apologies for the criticism. It's my only nitpicking of an otherwise great video :)
wonderful content, thank you
Thank you for watching and the kind comment!
Thank you Sir for your explanation.😊🙏🕊️🕊️
You are most welcome
The early 20th century was from January 1st 1901 to April 31st 1934. These start and end dates apply to all centuries. Since there was no year zero. So the year 1 BC, was followed by the year 1 AD.

Mr. E = Mystery!
Wow, a really great video. You've packed a lot of information into this fairly short episode and I suspect you could easily do a many part series on this subject. I have watched many videos on what is commonly referred to as ' African Art', and several have said that it's ironic that many of the African cultures that created the masks, statues, figurines didn't have a word in their vocabularies that meant art as we understand the word. I don't know if that's true, because it's hard to know where western arrogance ends and truth begins when western culture tries to understand and interpret African cultures and the purpose and meaning of what they created. All I know is that what we call "African Art" redefines the boundaries of imagination and creativity. Thanks for sharing this video.👍
Thank you very much for watching and your kind, thoughtful comment! You've given me an idea for a potential video!
JESUS' SECOND COMING AND LAST JUDGEMENT (Please open the Holy Bible and read the undermentioned Biblical verses 'real time' to understand this write up better). Note: These verses are only to enhance your already existing knowledge about the scriptures, not to hurt anyone's feelings. 1. Contradiction among Christians, that these two are one single event . But Bible says differently (ref Lk 18:8) If Christ has a question, it has to be serious. That if he doesn't find faith, no one will be saved. But these verses ( 1 Cor 15:51-52 And 1 Thess 4:15-17) say that some Saints will be saved. How will Jesus fulfil these two prophecies? Let's find out through the Bible. 2. Jesus' appearance on the judgment day and his work. Appears as Fire Isa 66:15-16 And 2 Thess 1:7-10 will come to punish the unfaithful The Bible constantly maintains this. 3. Appearance on his second coming and his work. Appears on clouds Matt 24:30-31 will gather the elected ones And Lk 21:27-28 " redemption is drawing near" means Christ will appear BEFORE the judgment day. When the Lord appears on clouds before the judgment day, he does so to restore faith in earth. And when he comes on Fire, he comes to save the faithful and punish the wicked. Thus, these two are different occurrences. Lord Jesus will come once again to fulfil his own prophecy in Luke 12:49-50 “I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed! Jesus was baptized once Luke 3:21. Then which baptism Lord is talking about? It's his second appearance in human form to to complete his unfinished work. God bless you ! I thought the videos, pt.1 and 2, were both excellent. The use of maps, images and clips to illustrate where these objects were created, their original purpose and how they were used put your videos several levels above being only a slide show of the objects without annotation. Although much of the world outside Africa may admire these creations as simply works of art, you show that they were originally made to serve a higher purpose. Thank you for the effort you have put into making these videos and I hope you make more on this subject.👍
Thank you @takkmoran9770 for the thoughtful observations! I really appreciat it!

I had an issue with an incorrect portrait and several complaints about the soundtrack being too loud. So I decided to make adjustments and re-upload the video. My apologies for any confusion or inconvenience.

I am so appreciative of the experience of being back in art class. The one that I was recalling just the other day that I retained nothing from but really nice memories of my teacher. Like the best teachers she was far more than an art teacher. As it turns out I unknowingly had adhd and probably struggled. This is kind of a do over for me. What a treat. Her name was Judy Earl from Mira Mesa High School in San Diego. A good person to be remembered. 40 some years later, I'm now living as an artist - and thanks to my wife I'm not starving. Thank you for choosing to teach and share. My biggest goal is not to "succeed" as an artist but to share it with someone who has no clue what they are capable of. Like me. Peace I'll keep watching
That is a lovely story - I'm grateful to have also been lucky to have had several, generous and profound instructors in my years. I've come to believe that people are searching for the voice to express themselves memorably. My goal as an art instructor is to encourage people to discover a meaningful relationship with the world through art. Thank you so very much for watching and sharing your experience!

Really....not one comment. This was a hell of a nice watch. I learned quite a lot. Thank you so much for taking the time and effort to educate us a bit. Cheers
Thank you so very much for watching and really nice comment! Happy days!
I get the purpose of the soundtrack but man is it distracting. Maybe turn it down so we can hear you?
Thank you for watching and the input. I agree the music is too loud. This video was one of the earliest made. Going forward I'm reducing the cinematic music in all new videos..
Love your content. It would be great if you ceased the music when you’re taking. It’s distracting

Close more shoot Artist less about movements
This video made me think it was like telling me that you have the best breed of dog or that your baby is the most beautiful. Look, art must; fine art; must have "intention" that is passed onto the viewer. Splashes of paint on a canvas, or a mangled sculpture, or a "balloon animal sculpture", is not fine art. Abstract art still, above all, must have that intention passed onto the viewer. It should be unmistakable. If you say, "What is this?", it most likely is NOT fine art. Please do not allow "art historians, or critics, tell you what fine art is. This is NOT rocket science, nor is it exclusive to intellectuals. The "INTENT" will be evident to anyone viewing the work.

I really wanted to like the contents of this video but eight full minutes (basically a third of the video) devoted to Dante’s _Inferno_ in a video ostensibly about “the purposes and functions of art” is really a bit much.
Beautifully, constructive, interpretation and delivery.
Thank you Mr. Irons for your kind comment and for watching!
You are very good. I hope one day that you will see my art works. Have some great years ahead
The stone that the builder refused! I will be the main corner stone in Jamaica and the Caribbean.
So the measure of a great artist is 'what they bring to the conversation'.. (conversation about what? Why not just talk instead of paint?) Not technique, expertise, or competence.. By this subjective & purposely nebulous standard, those who talk about art are also artists....they are not, of course. (Critics & art historians who do not rcreate) They are accomplices with the con artists who think a solid red swatch or random drippings on a canvas or feces is art.
Thank you for watching David. There is clearly no single correct way to evaluate art but doing so can be a meaningful endeavor. Modern art history, which may change, largely ignored Bouguereau as his artistic expressions were seen as commonplace and meant to appeal to the lowest common denominator. He gave French society an idealized view of itself in traditional techniques and formats that had been around for centuries. However, this doesn’t mean his work can’t be enjoyed. Personally, I enjoy his highly skilled work but he isn’t considered important in the larger art historical framework or ‘what artists bring to the conversation of art,’ because his works aren’t considered innovative, uniquely expressive nor do they reflect the fast-moving changes taking place in society at this time. He was a traditional academic that became the face of opposition to modern art and the avant-garde, of which you may or may not be a fan. However, if one only regards mimetic technical skill or art that displays manual talents, you will miss out on much that is remarkable in the 20th century. It’s worth noting that technique and expression are two different things.
@@mrEonarthistory 'Meant to appeal to the lowest common denominator' Sounds just like what modern art critics, commentators or educators with all the condescension of a bridge player would say regarding the aesthetic judgements of people they never met. Didn't Bouguereau paint on commission meaning he painted what his clients wanted not what the masses should behold and honor. These were more likely middle class and wealthy individuals. Lowest common denominator, indeed; and it is assumed they had no ability to judge art or make value judgements on its worth. The posters of Lautrec, drippings of Pollock, the toilets of Duchamp appealed to the cultured elite. What does that say about their value judgements. It is unfortunate that the modern artists, critics, educators have been given the reigns and authority to determine the irrational and nebulous standards by which art is to be valued. In order to make room for a toilet as a work of art, the aesthetic judgment of art must 'move you, spark a conversation, be remarkable.' All highly subjective and irrational standards. I am convinced that those in the lowest common denominator have a better grasp on art, what good art is, and what should be valued than the self-appointed cultural elite. There are only a hand full of 20th century artists who are to be valued as great artists. The rest are con artists.
@@davidvanmersbergen5335 Appealing to the lowest common denominator means that the work is considered trite. If you move your words around, I think you’ll get a more insightful statement . . .Bouguereau painted what the masses honored and beheld. In contemporary terms, think of a “cringey,” syrupy, sentimental pop song that lacks originality and is overplayed - rightly or wrongly, this is how Bouguereau’s art has been treated in art history. I happen to agree with this observation, but I can still enjoy his work for what it is, a very technically skilled painting. To be clear, I am not an elite tastemaker in the art world nor am I a professional art critic. I'm someone that enjoys learning and sharing my love of art and art history. Concerning the modern artists you mentioned, it’s valuable to study and understand the context of those individuals and what led them to doing the things that they did and why this upset the trends and values of the day. It’s apparent you feel strongly about your opinions on modern art and perhaps what has been considered the “deskilling” of art in the 20th century however, I try to be cautious before giving in to stubborn, knee-jerk reactions because art works initially perceived as threatening and dismissed outright, without qualifications, almost always become more benign the more I learn about them.
