I’d seen this band in DC and had heard their many songs from their cds (friends of mine knew the band) and my take away was always that if they turned the vocals up a bit so that it wasn’t obscured by the instruments (on so many tracks), they may have been much bigger. They were pretty good and had the spirit, enjoyable group of people. I’d always wondered if it was a choice to have the vocal track in the same range as the drums and guitars, and wondered if others enjoyed it this way. Not every song, but enough to wonder.
Long story short. Heard a band called the Not Its on Kids Place Live (Sirius XM), looked up the band, and made the connection to Velocity Girl, a band I saw on 120 Minutes so many years ago. The upshot? I've been smiling for hours now and I can't stop.
I was at the Philly show in 96 too! It was the Troc, or maybe the TLA and it was definitely advertised as their last show- maybe they played Baltimore on a whim afterwards. Such a great show, they encored with Forgotten Favorite and the bass was badly out of tune, but it didnt matter- pure pop brilliance. Those were the days...
Ha, ha, I'm an Xer born and raised in the suburbs south of Seattle, and though I never made it to the O.K. Hotel, I remember seeing handbills in my HS daze in the late 80s, promoting "Sweaty Nipples" gigs there... I always wondered what kind of band that was. Seriously, I wish I could have seen VG play live back then... they've been a favourite since my Uni days in the early-mid '90s. I think I still have a bit of a crush on Sarah.
I loved this band back in the 90's. They were good live as well. I remember each one of the switched off instruments from bass, guitar, and drums during the show. The singer was just as cute live too.
This whole album is great. I miss those daze. BTW, only saw this band once at R.P.I. We had our friends mom "chaperon" us because we were like 16. Only way we could get in...
Sarah deserves this to be in 4K
This song is perfect. Perfect perfect perfect perfect.
My forgotten favorite
Literally one of the coolest bands in the world omg

The bass riff is beautiful. It's like Hooky is playing it
You can see the inspiration they got from 80s music like New Order which they covered "ceremony" of
She's beautiful.

Goo goo gaga
For better or worse, in an alternate universe this cut became the backing track for the "Friends" intro.
22 people have no taste in awesome pop rock alternative music.
Damn, this was a good band. They put out some great stuff.
I love this song! It’s crazy to think that Sarah Shannon was studying opera when she joined Velocity Girl but it also explains her range and control.
What a damn great pop song...what a great era in music...I feel so old now
This really takes me back....great era in music and a great pop/grunge band!!!

If you guys love Velocity Girl, you will also love Glacier Veins. Look up a song called "Northern."
THE BEST!!!!
Is it just me or are the male backing vocals seriously off key? They sound really weird to me now.

I got to see their last show in philly back in 96. One of the best shows I ever got to go to
Their last show was at the 8x10 in Baltimore! (Not counting a one-off reunion in D.C. in 2002.)
Your pretty

Got to see them at the O.K. Hotel in Seattle when I was a lot younger. I was happy to find this.
