Galvanized pipe is probably not ideal as it is coated with zinc but the whole brain damage in children, etc. is such dumbass arm waiving based on zero facts as to be pathetic. You should be using stainless steel pipe,you are going to poision someone with that galvanized pipe!!!! Too slow for chickens and pork loins!

What size aqua pump are you using? The discoloration is from the rubber gasket from the top or smoke? The steel wool is for air through the bottom of the wood (using pellets)? The threaded nuts have any special name? I'm trying this with water, and seem to be having pressure issues as I only get bubbles about 1/3" down atm... Is copper tubing essential due to heat at the top?

FYI. When you use the conduit, you are poisoning some of the meat with the chemicals from the galvanization on the pipe. Can cause brain damage in children, even with low dosage. I would spring for a stainless steel rod/pipe personally.

We cooked one this thanksgiving day, Wow it's a big quest LOL we had the build it in 1 day when we all go to my brothers house, it's did n't work right we didn't build it right, took like 12 hours i would say, pig tasted good but next time we we do it we will be ready like you said it's a learning thing, when i went to the Philippines they were doing these pigs that weight about 150 lbs 3 at a time and with not trouble made it look easy.
