I would be really happy to see a more complete home and business automation solution, like knx / control 4 / loxone… This could make managing smart devices much more intuitive! So lighting (preferably tunable wight led drivers) blinds hvac and even a plc for custom solutions… Now if you have plans for such I would recommend to make everything din rail mounted for a minimalist and quality control panel, and make something like the Smart knob (a diy but very intuitive and software customizable interface) that would speak quality especially if it were made from like titanium or stainless steel or aluminum… Please hear me out because you have the capacity to make a good ecosystem and frankly speaking, the buggy solutions and time consuming installations make little sense for let’s say rentals… since time is money 😅

I’m running a UDM Pro at home and use it as a router and a surveillance NVR. I want guests to be able to enjoy super fast WiFi, have great online multiplayer gaming performance, and have a seamless WFH experience. No more unplugging and plugging the AT&T gateway. I just use the unifi app or the portal to access the UDM pro to reset my U7 pro by cycling the POE port remotely.

Also, since this is essentially a NVR repackaged, the ability to re-utilize a spare NVR OR dual purpose a NVR as both an NVR and NAS, making use of some of that huge storage for the NAS function.

Would be interesting if they could develop a Dropbox style desktop client that stored files to the NAS which could then be configured to replicate to another UniFi NAS offsite.

Do you need to be running Unifi network to use the NAS? Can I use it with only my internet provided by my ISP?
