From a home-based shop in Three Lakes, Wisconsin we lose focus on one project after another. Join Jeff and his shop dog, Hamilton, as they battle an addiction to projects that burn fossil fuel.
Ford GT40 (RCR40) Project: E-brakes part 2 - shimming the brakes, clearing the wheels
2 mil shim added to the parking brake installation makes all the difference. No rubbing on the wheel but not under suspension load and the brake cable isn’t properly tensioned yet.

Ford GT40 MK1 (RCR40) Project Part 7: Powder coating the valve covers and air cleaner cover.
Переглядів 4554 місяці тому
Showing how I'm setup to home powder coat using a kitchen oven and a $120 Eastwood gun. I used the DIY at home powder coat setup to do my valve covers and air cleaner assembly. I used a Cricut cutter to create a vinyl mask for a custom logo then peeled it off to reveal the logo after baking. This was my first attempt at powder coating with a mask and only the second or third time ever.

Ford GT40 MK1 (RCR40) Project Part 5: Flipping the chassis over for primer and undercoating.
Переглядів 2,5 тис.4 місяці тому
Took all of the suspension components off of the GT40. Flipped it over and scuffed the bottom with a Scotch pad, applied a self etching primer then a silver tint Raptor brand liner to the bottom of the car.
Ford GT40 MK1 (RCR40) Project Part 4: Stripped the transaxle and all suspension & wheel components.
Переглядів 5794 місяці тому
Pulled all of the wheel and suspension components from the GT40 project. Also removed the Porsche G96 transaxle that was purchased along with the car from Race Car Replicas. The transaxle will eventually be mated to a Ford 347 stroker that was built while we waited for the car from RCR.
Ford GT40 MK1 (RCR40) Project Part 3: Pulled the wheels and tires to prep the chassis.
Переглядів 1,6 тис.4 місяці тому
The GT40 project comes as a roller. Step one is removing everything to undercoat the underside of the chassis as recommended by Race Car Replicas. I contemplated skipping this step but ultimately decided to undercoat the chassis in Raptor Liner. Here we pulled the BRM style knock off wheels with Avon radial racing tires 295/50/15 rears and 215/60/15 fronts.

Ford GT40 MK1 (RCR40) Project Part 1: Unloading the RCR40 Ford GT40 Replica from Race Car Replicas

We drove to the outskirts of Detroit to pick up our Ford GT40 project from Race Car Replicas. The car comes with the body panels sitting in place and the included "kit" parts inside of the car. The entire car is disassembled and put back together properly. All in these assemblies typically take a DIY homebuilder about 2-3 years. This is the "deluxe plus" kit from RCR.

Looking great man 👍 I am finalising the interior design on my V12 build 😎
@@UKBUILT What V12 did you source?
@official-lakelakelakewi A Mercedes M120 6.0 V12 🙂 Thanks 👍
Been a few months, hows the project going? love the videos so far
What is the purpose of the raptor liner on the bottom. Noise cancelation?
@@zoomxf644 Recommended by the manufacturer. I questioned the necessity as well but did it anyway.
@@official-lakelakelakewi I am going to guess that it is going to act as a sound deadener but also protect the the under belly from some road debris/rash as it is aluminum and is going to dent relatively easy. Its too bad that they stopped doing Line-X in Eagle River, as it is a much tougher material, and applied thicker. It would have cost considerably more but would have offered more protection and acted as an additional stiffener. We all now the junk we can find going down the road. The additional weight on a road car wouldn't be noticed. As Three Lakes is a small town I am going to say that I am just down the road from you. I have a place just north of town and would be interested in seeing your build. I found your build thread over on GT40"s website and just started to follow it also Bob
The aviator in me compelled me to install baffles. Bit of a chore but no waves racing front and back under acceleration and braking. Gord in Toronto. 8/10s done.
Do you happen to have part numbers for the clutch , flywheel, and starter? Looking to mate a G96 to 302, just like yours.
@@jv84venom1 Still waiting on clutch and flywheel. I have the starter, I’ll look.
What grade kit did you go with the base kit mid or the high end one?
Love❤❤❤ But its hiding more bog than this. Bog is Australian for bondo.
How much are you saving by assembling the car yourself?
@@darrylmitchell1305 I don’t know what they charge to assemble.
Hi, new subscriber on You Tube Here! really looking forward to following your progress on the GT40 build! can I make one suggestion for your videos? can you hold your phone "horizontal" when using it to take videos, that way they will fill the viewers screens! please give it a try! Thanks, and good luck on the build!
@@wshurmatz1 I film all of them for my TikTok channel primarily then repost them here. Not great for UA-cam so I may start filming two versions. Thanks
@@official-lakelakelakewi Oh, Sorry I didn't realize that Tic Tok would require a "vertical" format!? Seems like a lot of trouble to film everything twice!!?? would another camera be an option? I just bought a cheap action cam, and it works well for YT? But I've never posted to Tik Tock. it's your channel, do what you think is best.
Nice project 👍 I just started my first V12 build 😎
Love the GT40
Awesome! 🤔... if I can just get my grill guard into my oven. 😅
Gorgeous …..except for Fram oil filter . I would unscrew that and throw as far out the back door as possible.
I like how you masked off for powder coating.
Awesome project. I am about 3 month.
3/8 pickup to pan.
Brilliant. I was looking for a way to coat my bicycle frame
@@smoddyelse4688 Only problem is it won’t fit in a kitchen oven.

Unbelievably Beautiful 😍
If you need a hand building that thing...I'm the guy. I was on the ford gt build team....got any questions...hit me up....
Congrats. I received mine in May. Looking forward to watching your build.
@@randyfolsom I follow your build thread on the forum.
@jrsvt I accidentally deleted your comment. Happy to let you know my thoughts on the RCR if you decide to go that route.
Love this awsome job
I want to acquire myself a GT40 from RCR. Which transaxle did you choose and how much is the unit. I see used lambo transaxle for $20k on eBay.
I used the Porsche G96 with a limited slip differential. It's available from both RCR and other sources.
You can see the transaxle here. I'll post a video when we mate it to the 347 and drop it in the car as well. studio.ua-cam.com/users/video6DNvg4w-sGY/edit
Nice! I have a 61 F-100 2wd with a 223 six and love it.
Rear view 1957 Buick special edition
Very nice. I have a 61 f 100 4x4. Wish it was in this nice of shape.
Awesome!
I bet the 4x4 is not factory unless it was an army truck
Is there actually a year 1961?
What's under the hood? And what's your exhaust setup? Nice truck!
sweet
Very good video! If you make another one with this El Camino, perhaps you could show shifting gears and the pedal work involved.
Nice and sunny out so your cold start means nothing. How about when the truck is in a foot of snow during a blizzard???????
Because that's when someone is driving a 1961 Ford.
Might have to work the gas pedal.
That looks like a " farmer" restoration , cheap repaint with farm implement paint just to keep it from further rusting . Some light sanding and buffing might help that truck a lot.
I did the paint job on that truck. Enjoy it!!!
Beautiful example of Ford tough and classic styling too. Makes new trucks look paltry and cheap.
Things were made to last when it was built
😍👍
Lucky dog.
Put a "minus" in front of those temps, then it would be a true cold start. But no matter, a Y-Block will start in any weather. Nice truck.
You never popped the hood?
Good truck, pretty nice condition really. The "Custom Cab" emblems on the doors are way off, not sure what's going on there. I wouldn't mind having this one.
Sir is the truck available for sale
A bit rough, how much?
Nice! Great truck
Sweet truck
Great pickup... not a fan of the step side box with this cab.
