This was our third trip to the FDR State Park and Warm Springs, GA. This is where President Roosevelt had his "Little White House". He spent quite a bit of time in Warm Springs in the hopes of curing, or at least easing, his polio and helping others. This was the first time that the weather was nice enough to go for a walk at the rehabilitation and treatment facilities. There are a lot of old a...

To get the "hard to get at" screws out so you don't have to remove the battery, get a HF $4 tamper proof torx set with a T30 torx and the HF $12 set of offset SAE ratcheting wrenches which includes a 1/4' wrench to fit on the T30 torx bit. Be sure to put a piece of electrical tape over the end of the bit before you slide it into the wrench. Otherwise you'll loose the bit. If you remove the side panels the screws will come out fast and easy.
What type of battery charger are you using
I removed the 2 tough screws by using a small vice grip and tapping with a hammer. Easy peasy
You say the auxillary battery can recharge the HV up to 2008. I have a 2008, and need my HV to recharge.. just put in a new aux battery. any tips??
This video actually helped me too! I have a 2006 (with the jump start mode) but my jump starter doesn’t work. Throws a code for “jump start module system fault.” Tried this method and it still worked, so thank you anyways!
What kind of charger do you use?
Where did you get the charger for the hybrid battery? Thank you
Someone can help me with the hybrid battery charger? I am trying to find one but I can't
ES MARCO ANTONO SOLIS?
Thank you for the info... I like the vehicle but now I'm afraid to buy it since I hear that battery can go without warning and is over $3000 just for the battery... uuuhhggg I'm on a fixed income of sorts I really like the looks of the vehicle and saw one for sale I need a vehicle asap.
Hello Kathy, Overall the Ford Escape is a good choice with or without the hybrid technology. It is pretty reliable and the fuel economy is good on the 4-cylinder non-hybrids as well. Maybe you can find a 2008 or 2009 with the 4-cylinder engine and low mileage? The Mercury Mariner is basically the same thing. Best of luck, GG
What did you use as a charger? A regular battery charger?
I had a Ford dealer charge my 09 Escape Hybrid battery which they now say has over 30 codes that they spent 10 hours troubleshooting and has not resolved. Any ideas?

BTW, you don't want to fully charge the battery to 345V unless you have a fan blowing on the battery sticks as the battery's thermal management system is disabled. Just charging it to 310 volts should be enough to get the car started. Then just let the vehicle run and charge the battery until the ICE shuts off.
I sent Instagram message thank you
Thank you. I have a 2007 hybrid too. How can I find the software for scanner? How can I contact you by Instagram? Thank you very much 😊
Thanks for this video; I too had a no start/crank situation on 2009 Ford EscapeHybrid. Getting the lid off the battery was hard since the 4 bolts on the left and right sides of the battery are difficult/impossible to get at with the tools I had; so I unbolted, disconnected, and lifted the very heavy battery to get those four bolts out. For anyone trying this, do the two “hidden” counter-sunk Torx 30 ones first. If you can manage those without lifting the battery then you should be able to get the lid off the battery without unbolting the battery. The other two bolts come out with an Allen wrench or (my approach) by using needle nose locking pliers. I removed the orange safety plug, removed all the Torx30 bolts and the two hex head ones at the battery’s forward edge; then lifted the lid off. Found the wiring harness remnant from where the charger was omitted after 2008 (see @urntwrthyZ comments below from 6 months ago); unwrapped the foam, put the big orange safety plug back into the battery. As suggested, the grey and the black cube-shaped connectors, each with one wire into them, had high voltage. I stripped two solid core leads and pushed one in each of the connectors to make good contact with the cables on those connectors. Tested voltage: 275V across the two. (Too low to crank engine). Connected the LED power supply (MeanWell HLG-120H-C350A with 430V DC output); + to +, and minus to minus; applied 120V AC to the power supply; attached multi-meter across the two output connections; voltage immediately started to rise from 275V. After 40 minutes the voltage was 320V; an hour later 339V; then 1 hour later: 344V. Very slow rise after that. Left it to charge overnight and it leveled off at 357V. Disconnected everything, secured wires, bolted battery lid back down (I left the 2 countersunk bolts out). With everything safely secured, I was then able to crank the engine and immediately did some driving. All has been OK since then (last 24 hours).
Thank you for the video, can you please provide the software name that you have in your laptop computer
I’m having same problem, I’m curious if you could share what type amp, volt charger you used.
There is a button at the driver side on the dash under a cover to charge the hybrid battery from the 12V battery!!! Read the user Manual!!!!
How does it work?
More info please.
This button and the charger within the high voltage battery were omitted by Ford starting with the 2009 model
What type of battery charger did you use? Mahalo
Someonr took off with the safety switch. Anywhere cheap to get a new one
We made our own battery charger from parts off amazin
You do realize that you NEVER showed where you connected the battery charger to right? That might be helpful ………….
Thank you very much good info, but something that no one does or forget is to include the price of the material, but thank you again!!!
I had a check engine code come up but the person at auto zone said it was showing it was the front battery? Is he a idiot or could that be cause I’m sorta having same issue the light went back off but it keeps wanting to no crank no start at times had ignition replaced 2 years ago so that I don’t think could be the issue
Thanks for the video
Helpful video... Thanks!
love the way how u explained, big thank you to you, your beautiful wife and your smart dog engineers
If the battery won't hold a charge its probably not any good
Do you have to use cooling fan when charging?
I presume I can purchase the auxiliary battery from the dealer?
I got mine from O'Reilly's $115.00 $10.00 core. Much better than stealership ($250.00?).
This video made the changing the auxiliary battery simple. Thank you!
Has anyone tried swapping a dead battery into an older model with the recharge button? I’ve got an 06 with the button that uses the 12v battery to charge the hybrid battery, and I’m thinking about buying an 09 with a dead battery. THANKS GUYS!
Huge help. Replaced the aux battery per your video and my 2014 GLK is back to normal. Many thanks!
what was it doing
Error message. Auto start/stop engine function does not work. Other small functions too.
Your video was a huge help and saved me money Thank you!
If you have a scan tool that can clear the codes, that'll get it starting then you can just let the gas engine recharge the HV
False. If you have a completely dead traction battery the engine will not start. The traction battery is what starts the engine. You need to charge it in order to get the car functioning properly.
Do you have any problems with the slant in the sleeping area?
Not at all!
What’s the proper way in disconnecting and connecting auxillary battery terminal? Do O disconnect negative and then positive? And for reconnecting ots the opposite correct?
What kind of charger did you use?
Up to 2008, there was a Jump Start button. Does anybody know if it possible to add one to the 2009 model?
Life just got much easier for this. First, you can leave the HVTB in the vehicle, we ground down a torx bit to access the bolts on the front sides of the cover. You can get at the ones mid-side with channelocks. This is easier with the trim panels removed. Now for the HUGE time saver. You do NOT need to remove all those internal parts on the passenger side of the HVTB. On the driver side of the HVTB there is now a bundle of cables wrapped in gray foam where the charging circuitry was for the 2005-2008 models. Unwrap the foam. Ford left the connectors for that 05-08 charging circuitry on that cable. The gray one is positive and the black one is negative. They are on the ends of the wires in the orange split conduit that goes into the side of the battery trays. Connect your charging cable to those and you can charge the battery that way. This is now less than a one hour job and WAAAY easier. I left my cable permanently connected and ran in out the side of the HTVB with a safety cap on it.
I would very much like to know more about this. Where exactly is that gray cable? Do you connect it to the 12V battery like the 2008, or to the high voltage charger described in the video?
Holy shit I am about to do this. Pardon my French.
@@kristophershofner5874 Please update with experiences, pics or videos of your own! I'm going to try it also as soon as the charger I ordered gets here.
What you speak of is not there. The wires are red and black from the quick charger port. No foam on mine
Three grey connectors and one black plug. Two stout wires (one red and one black) have about 115v. Where do we connect our high voltage charger?
Very helpful and interesting--but please ditch the music !
Glad our video was helpful and intersting! As for the music: that is part of who we are and we will continue to be us.
