From what I gather from Nicholas Pegg's book, this sounds like the version from "David Bowie - Live and Exclusive", a session recorded before a studio audience on the eve of the European dates in autumn 2002, recorded 18/09/2002 and broadcast on Radio BBC2 on 05/10/2002. Maybe it's because I'm a drummer, but shit, this is BY FAR the best live version I've ever heard, I don't care if the studio setting keeps the overall output a little understated, Drums are really what make this tune one of a kind, and Sterling Campbell plays it the only way it should ever be played, like Davis did, with the ride bell doubling the kick, and with fills that blow you away, honouring the originals almost to the note, (and don't forget that the original had some percussion overdubs too, also by Davis). I've always considered the Serious Moonlight version umbeatable, thanks to the Simms brothers amazing vocals, but this gets the nod.

This truly highlights how Mr.Fripp and his snarling guitar are such a huge part of the bitterly vitriolic tone of Scary Monsters. It's as if they're punching against the kitsche conception of a 70s style bodiddy beat. The whole album is.

Given the sound quality of this i would consider this to be an alternative mix rather than a "Demo". It literally sounds as if it is ready for a release of its own rather than the "lo-fi" distinctly amateur sound normally expected of a raw demo which might or might not see the light of day.What say you??.
