Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT - MMX Max Effort Cam Upgrade & Stainless Works Headers
After some basic bolt-ons, like the AFE Power Magnum Force CAI and the Borla S-Type Cat-Back Exhaust, I will be upgrading my Jeep SRT with an MMX Max Effort NA cam this summer along with Stainless Works Long Tube Headers and High-Flow Cats. The baseline dyno runs in rear wheel drive only establish a baseline from which I can measure gains after the upgrades. I'm hoping for something close to 500 Wheel HP when we're done.

This video compares the stock SRT exhaust to the Borla S-Type cat-back system. The Borla exhaust really wakes up this Hemi with a deep growl throughout the rpm band without being too loud. No drone while cruising and lots of smile inducing crackles and pops during deceleration that are not audible with the stock exhaust. Overall a great system that installs in about 2 hours.

The Borla S-Type exhaust has a perfect blend of volume and deep tones with no drone. At highway speeds the cab is rather quiet, which is good, but step on the gas and there is no doubt you have a custom exhaust. The engineering that goes into these systems produces a refined, deep exhaust note that really compliments the truck.

Great sound from a 3.6 Pentastar! One of the best I've heard on UA-cam. Louder than I personally want on my GC but great to know the option is out there.

I'm looking into this exhaust sounds great! Do you have a cold air intake and will that make it difference in the exhaust sounds? Thanks
Everything else is stock except for a Pedal Commander which spices up the throttle response. No extra power but you can dial it up so there is no lag at all which gives the perception of more power. The intake should not impact the exhaust sound but depending which one you get it will add some noise of its own under the hood, especially under hard acceleration.

I was waiting for the Ripp Supercharger kit for well over a year and ended up trading up to an SRT. The kit is finally out now and apparently makes 180+ HP over stock at the wheels!

Can you do this to a 2012 with the 3.6?
I got the Limited X V8 and I deleted the mid muffler and put the same Borlas where the dual exhaust are. I had to reverse what I did due to the drone I would get when going 60-80mph. I am planning on doing what you did. You kept the stock dual exhaust and put the Borlas in the center correct? Are you getting any drone in the cabin? I appreciate your input.
The Borla System is a complete cat-back exhaust which replaces the mid-muffler and the rear resonators while preserving the factory Limited X exhaust tips. There is no drone at any speed/RPM.

No drone at all. Cabin volume is minimal especially at cruising speed.

@@TonyTheTruckGuy When the cooling fans are making more noise than the exhaust you have a problem! The launches produce some decent volume but it settles down once you're up to speed.

Okay the sound I'm looking for mines. Did you do a mid muffler delete?
The Borla unit is a full replacement from the cats back which includes the mid muffler which is replaced by an X pipe. Very well made unit.

Personally, I'd just get the V8 engine and leave the exhaust system stock.
The sounds system stock of a V8 engine sounds just like the V6. I got a V8. If you want any growling on acceleration you def have to change something on the stock. I ll tell you this is the best way to go because I have switched the system a couple of time and I get drone in the cabin. So I am buying the whole Borla system to avoid more headaches.

Yeah, when I bought the Limited X I actually went to see a Trackhawk. It was dogged on so I got the new Limited X. With availability scarce and prices high I opted for a super clean SRT. It’s possibly a better balance of price and performance and if you want more the platform is easily upgraded to Trackhawk power levels or beyond. They gave me what I paid two years ago on trade for the 2020 Limited X. Crazy!!!

Great video! Do you have any sort of lowering kit on the GC? Having a heck of a time finding one because they all seem to exclude the Limited X model, as Eibach even says for a 2020 model.
Thanks! Stock suspension setup. Not sure why the Limited X would be excluded. Borla didn't specifically market this exhaust for the X either but I called and talked with their tech department and determined it would work. Good Luck!
I got this exhaust installed on my 19 GC limited x, but i am unable to rev it past 3k rpm. Wondering if anyone else has this or know why it stops it, thanks
A lot of newer vehicles have a rev limiter when in park/neutral which prevents you from going over 3K.

Borla makes five different versions of the S-Type exhaust system for the 2014 - 2021 JGC 3.6L V6. The differences are single outlet, dual outlet, and Altitude/Summit/Limited X which reuses the factory tips. The others are all round tips in either chrome or black chrome. I have a 2021 GC V6 Laredo X. I've added the Borla exhaust and the K&N intake system. I've also added a performance chip from chip your car and also launch pad Electronic Throttle Control. Now I'm ready for the ignition coils. I'm waiting for the supercharger to be introduced later this year. All the mods I've installed have increased the feel of power and acceleration. I don't have any dyno numbers but I will do a before and after once I get the supercharger. People have asked me, is that a track hawk? No grand Cherokee sounds like a race car! I love passing people on the highway in 5th gear. The ground and air shakes as I zoom past them. Off the line up to 1/8th mile, I beat most Hemi's, but once their V8 kicks in they pass me and I just back off the throttle. Lot's of fun!
