    This week I started supplementing with iron that contained 1,250% RDA Cyanocobalamin. I started feeling unwell and digestive issues - lots of stinky gas and excessive bowel movements and heart palpitations. I suspect I’m having toxicity response. I also suspect that I have a methylation problem or some other issue - either genetic or pernicious anemia (autoimmune). I’ve been mildly anemic and low ALP my whole life and anemia unresponsive to supplementation. I have a whole slough of mild to moderate health issues that may be explained by pernicious anemia or methylation issue (MTFHR issue perhaps). I’m wondering what I can do to support my system to detox from cyanocobalamin. I haven’t found information for that.

    It's an old video but worth commenting. Thank you for raising the toxicity issue. The daily recommended amount of B6 is just 1.3-1.5mg per day. Completely achievable from a healthy diet. No need to supplement at all. B6 toxicity is an emerging problem and the symptoms are very serious. I speak from experience. DO NOT SUPPLEMENT - and this includes the supposedly OK, P5P. In Australia, products now carry a warning if they contain over 10mg B6 - a tiny amount compared to what is deemed acceptable in the US. The European Union has just reduced the amount in their products from 25mg to 12.5mg. Time for the rest of the world to catch up.

    • @carokat1111
      @carokat1111 Місяць тому

      @@shantinaturechild3239 If you have a blood test which shows deficiency, I'd still only change your diet to consume more. I am not aware that you can overload on B1 or B12, so you can probably safely supplement those and then that potentially may help B6 absorption as well. The website Understanding B6 Toxicity sell a B vitamin complex which does not include B6. Possibly a good option if you need something. B6 toxicity symptoms are wide-ranging, long-lasting and serious so be aware. P5P form is the only form of B6 to consider and if you do need it, take a formulation with a small amount.

    Calorie counting is not a perfect science when you are tracking outside of a laboratory setting. The calorie content changes once a food is cooked as well. The key is to pick a tracking method (cooked / uncooked) stick with it and adjust your numbers accordingly.

    From PubMed: "Therefore, there is not sufficient evidence to assume that high plasma vitamin B12, high B12 intake, or treatment with pharmacological doses of vitamin B12, is causally related to cancer." The serum level of B12 seems to increse with some serious diseases (cancer), without supplementation causing it. That fenomena is probably what causes a U-shaped relationship between serum level of B-12 and mortality. There seems to be no aditional risk with supplementing with relatively high doses of B12, such as 1000 mcg. Actually, the uptake of it at those doses is very low, so the actual dose you get isn't really high at all. About 2 mcg is actively absorbed. The rest by diffusion, with diminishing uptake at higher doses. The result of 1000 mcg is close to the 7 mcg you actually need. (RDA 2.4 mcg is low). I guess that we ideally should get B12 in low doses several times a day, just enough to mostly utilize the activee uptake. But there probably aren't any supplements with those low doses. B12 rich food works like that, though.
