I recently discovered tofu and I love it. The tofu I buy is about 300 calories (or less) for the whole package. I usually eat half a package, so only about 150 calories. I don’t think that’s too bad.

Just curious, aside from the berry sorbet, why don't you eat lots of fruit?
I love your attitude and your frankness. Knowing yourself enough to be able to identify your triggers is so crucial to ones' weight loss (or maintenance) journey. I'm at maintenance AND I still have to watch the hand-to-mouth picking that I've been known to do. Like you said with the tofu cubes, before you know it, you can easily double the foods that you think you're eating less of. "Are you hungry or are you just wanting more of that mouth feel?" Great question! Sometimes I'm not even hungry. Sometimes I happen to pass through the kitchen on my way to another room in the house. And if I'm not intentional with myself, I could easily stop at the jar of unshelled peanuts and pack away a handful. Intention is critical. As for dressings, I've found that if i either completely sub white beans for cashews or do 1/2 and 1/2, it helps to lower the calorie density. Plus it gets beans into my body! But I'll say this - until you eat a salad without dressing, you won't know how easy it is to enjoy the simple crunch of lettuce and other salad veggies. Keep up the AMAZING work, Shauna! I'm a water and cold-brew herbal tea drinker because I can drink cold tea without any sweetener. It's a nice change when I need a change from plain water.

Afternoon dear!! Wonderful video!! I really love all your videos but I find I get the most value out of your chatting videos!! I took notes, hee hee, so here they are… : I agree totally about detoxing and right now I’m trying my hardest to detox from sugars. I’ve given maple syrup, I’ve cut back on my stevia, but I’d love to do it all the way to completely cleanse my palate. : Shauna, you and I are so similar! I love the quote you said from Chef AJ! It’s so true!! Another of her gems is “ if it’s in your house it’s in your mouth” So true so true. : I just put my 2 blocks of tofu from the fridge into the freezer. I noted they were close to expiration so I wanted to keep them just in case I chose to use them in the future. : Confession time. My name is Judeanne and I’m a water-holic and a tea-horder. : I’ve also eliminated ALL nuts seeds, avocados, etc because I’m unable to do the “ in moderation “ thing with those foods. Whew! Quite a mouthful!! 😍
Baked Tofu is like candy to me...I love it and also need to eat it sparingly otherwise I would eat the entire block! Dressings are my kryptonite and have saved me! They also help get a large salad down with no problems! I make my own and replaced the cashews with white beans. Oh and of course I love "cheez" sauce! Water is making a big difference in my weight loss now, feeling lighter and the scale is moving in the right direction! I'm now down 4.5 pounds overall towards my goal! I do still drink coffee, but only one cup per day with unsweetened oat milk...of course, as a Canadian, I add one teaspoon of Maple Syrup to help the economy (it's so expensive!) and the Maple Syrup industry! lol! ;) I've given up coffee twice in my life, but I guess I just love the morning ritual of it...I'm hooked! lol! We do drink a lot of tea here in Canada but it's just not the same jolt as coffee! ha! ha! I can't have cashews either as they trigger me to eat more, but I do have one Brazil nut per day for healthy thyroid function. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on all these food items! So interesting to hear how we all navigate the starch solution a little differently. Have an amazing rest of your week! The sun is out today in the mountains so off we go for a lovely walk! :) Hugs!
This was really useful Shauna. Thank you! My experience with dressings is that they are addictive. Nuts as well are terrible triggers and hard to stop at only one or two. You're spot on about them. ❤

❤ Love this Shauna! A splash of vinegar goes a log way on greens in my opinion. I tend to do salt or liquid aminos and malt vinegar on potatoes and make a simple dipping sauce of soy/aminos, rice vinegar, and lime juice for “seaweed rolls”. So tasty! Gosh I miss Dr. McDougall. 😢

@ As a family of six we have a bit of a condiment collection! Hahaha For easily accessible malt vinegar I think the London Pub brand is just fine, Nakano for Rice Vinegar (it doesn’t have added sugar like seasoned rice vinegar does). I use a little food safe spray bottle to dress greens so it’s just enough to get the taste but not overkill. LOL

Also, love the hack of using a food safe spray bottle, that coats everything without, like you said overkill! Do you store the spray bottle in the fridge or the pantry?
Another popular brand is California Balsamic. I think they're pretty good.

On the baked zucchini, it is just SO GOOD and SO EASY, no better combo where veggies are concerned in my book💕😊 I've even started eating them raw that way before I stick them in the oven, that's even delicious!!!
What about "alternative" tofus - eg made with lentils instead?
I make my tofu with chickpeas, delicious. I am allergic to soja.
Great question!!! For me, I still don't go really overboard with the fat-free tofu, just because I can eat way more of it than if I were eating a cup of beans (I think of it like oat flour instead of oats). Some of the water is pressed out to create the cube. However, as an addition to a meal I feel like it can be added without worrying too much about it, much more so than tofu. Tofu is 90 cals with 4.5 grams of fat per serving, whereas, the bean tofu is 70 cals with 0 grams of fat per serving, so it's a great alternative and there is no fat, which is great!

Thanks for sharing your journey with us❤️ I found your channel a couple of weeks ago and you inspired me to “try again” so far I have lost a very stubborn 4 pounds over the last week and a half just by doing the Starch solution, IT WORKS! Now 21 more to go. The first week felt like it was such an effort and so much thinking, planning and preparation. But now I have grown accustomed to eating this way and it feels easy like I can do this. For Thanksgiving we are cooking all of the traditional foods for my traditional family but cooking more simple veggie dishes along with it. I will be sticking with my diet and not over doing it. I will take some of the mashed potatoes out of the bowl b4 it gets butter and milk and making my own gravy with some homemade veggie broth thickened with a little corn starch and making a healthier stuffing with extra veggies, herbs and veggie broth, that will be my big splurge. For dessert I am making a homemade chunky no sugar apple sauce with some cinnamon and topping it with sprinkle of toasted oats.

I used to wear those same flowy dresses thinking they were hiding what I didn't want to see...I got rid of them as I'm getting smaller as I don't want to be reminded of that time. I'm SO grateful it is coming off, it's just a testament to sticking with this low-fat, high-carb lifestyle for 6 months, it'll be 7 months on Thanksgiving here and the only way I want to celebrate is by enjoying this healthier version of me!!! If you're on the fence about IF it could really work, I would recommend just giving it a try for 30 days, full commitment, 100%, and see if it can work, that's what I had to do, I felt like I could/can pretty much do anything for 30 days and IF it works, well then I'll keep doing it!!! 6 months later this has become the way I live and eat now and it is working🥰💕🎉

Hi Serendipity!! Thank you, sister💕🥰 I'm not really a big salad person, I do feel like them every so often, and will often buy salad ingredients, but then don't end up making them. Maybe I should do a pre-prep of the salad and that would help😊 Lol...I feel like the amount I eat doesn't show up well on camera, but I'm definitely eating lots of veggies and enough starches to feel full and satisfied, even a little over full sometimes! I'm finding the more weight I lose the less I need to eat to feel full, plus this week I wasn't really feeling good with the migraine and menopause issues, so I feel like I ate a little less. Yes, I LOVE tomatoes, usually when I buy the flavor bomb tomatoes from Costco I eat them up in 1 day, the are SO DELICIOUS!!!

Congratulations on seeing that scale creep down again! Well done, Shauna. Your plan to stick to your regular foods on TG is a good one, as The Pleasure Trap is REAL. My weight got down to 137 after sticking to Chef AJ's Ultimate Weight Loss plan 9 years ago, in my mid 50s. I stopped weighing myself (bought into the thought that we shouldn't weigh), and eased up on my food. I gained 5 pounds pretty fast. I stayed within a pretty good range for several years. Then the pandemic happened. I started eating more high density and processed foods once things started opening up... up 30 pounds! I've suffered from a couple serious fractures, and now eat more protein and calcium. It's hard to include those nutrients and lose weight, but I'm trying. Getting off the junk again, and sticking with whole, low calorie density foods. I'm going to TG with family, who all eat the SAD. I think I'll bring lentil shepherd's pie, spiced cranberries without refined sugar (which my dad loves too), maybe a quinoa salad too. All things I can eat and share. And I'll try my hardest to avoid everything else. We can do this!

I don't usually weigh (I've done it for the weekly weigh-ins), but I'm seeing the value in it, for sure. I want to make sure I have a plan to stay consistent with eating low calorie density as a lifestyle. It's definitely a bummer when the weight comes back on and those junk foods slowly creep in, I have experienced my fair share of that too. I'm sorry about your fractures, that can be so scary (it was for me anyway) and takes time to heal, hopefully you're fully on the mend now💕 Good for you, getting off the junk food and sticking to WFPB LCD, I'm sure it feels so good to be back to eating these nourishing foods, especially since you were eating this way before, I love it!! I make fir me a lentil loaf that I got the recipe from High Carb Hannah. It has veggies, oats, spices and a ketchup mixture on top. Delish. No one around me wants it. I make me some kind if pie, mashed potatoes. I take to my son’s house. Usually no crust.

We are so alike….as you were talking about your outline for thanksgiving I was thinking of my own. In the past I’ve stuck to my guns and kept on the wfpb/vegan pathway. I know myself well enough to say that if I “allowed” myself to have this or that after all the hard work I put into my health I’d be so sick physically and emotionally and disappointed in myself. Not to mention like you said your tastebuds have changed and when I’ve tried the foods from the past that were vegan they tasted gross because they were not wfpb and not low calorie density. For thanksgiving it’ll just be John and myself but for Christmas it may be all the kids. We hope so! 😊😊😊

I'm still worried that if I taste one bite of those "other foods" that I will still like them and then I'll be a goner!!! Hopefully that is not the case, but I don't even want to chance it💕 Those, to me, are THE BEST holidays, quiet, cozy, low-key! @@starchyshauna I find myself avoiding having my photo taken at all costs….that is unless it’s with my guys, of course! But by myself?…no way! Now I did take those “before” shots that I plan on looking at not before 3 months, maybe even 6 months from now. I made a big batch, 2 huge cabbages a 4 zucchini’s, of the roasted zucchini and cabbages, using your recipes. Second time for the zucchini and third for the cabbage! Soooooo yummy!!! And soooooo easy to make! I just went grocery shopping yesterday and got more cabbage and zucchini and wanted to try the eggplant but they were out of eggplant. Sad. 😔. Maybe next time. I’ve never been an adventurous cook or “ home chef” so this way of cooking, very simple, is very much in my wheelhouse. I feel very comfortable with it. I do however love experimenting with different spices and am willing to try different ones. The ONLY 2 spices I cannot tolerate that I’ve ever tried at just the plain black pepper and crushed red pepper flakes! My taste buds cannot tolerate them at all…however, now this is weird, when I roast carrots I must sprinkle a tiny bit of black pepper, just a bit, on them for me to say I get the true essence of the roasted carrot flavor to come out! It’s so crazy!! Hope you have relaxation plans for Sunday? Btw…I never asked, I know you mentioned you have a grandson and granddaughter, if you feel ok saying how old are they? If not, that’s perfectly fine. I truely can appreciate when UA-cam-eta want their family’s lives private. 😊❤️

I was the same, I didn't even want to look at those until I started putting them together for a UA-cam video and then I saw how much I've changed. I haven't been able to get eggplant here, either this past week! Nice on the veggies, sister, you are becoming a veggie cook master Starchy Sister Style!! Bake it in the oven...lol! That is funny about pepper and red pepper flakes! I'll have to try a little black pepper on my roasted carrots, I haven't done them a lot this year, they're just not tasting good to me cooked lately, which is a bummer.
