The slave owner family still live here so it ain't very historic it's actually contemporary
My bloodline was there in the 1800s..im African American
My G G Grandfather Solomon Carter owned 3,000 acres called "CARTER BRANCH near Ingram Ky Post office they are buried at The Carter Cemetery on Carter Branch. Solomon Carter was inn the Civil War. He was in the 49th Ky. Inf. Co. K. He enlisted at Camp Nelson Ky in 1861. He was discharged 1864. .
Danny Glover also filmed a movie here, called Honeydripper
I’ve always wanted to live in that old bank!
Thank you for sharing
The Town was used as the backdrop in the movie “ Honeydripper “ !
This guy is good ! Thanks! Can you go Into Debbie’s ? So we can see what’s in there?
Alabama is Cursed ! There is Nobody There !
Thanks for doing this video. But I wanted to tell you that the brick building next where the train depot used to be was the post office. It may have originally been a bank. But when my Mom was growing up she lived just across the train tracks in the white two story house that faces the road. All I remember it ever being was a post office and that’s all mom ever referred to it as.
Georgiana look better now 😊
My grandparents on my fathers side lived there for a while before moving to Selma. I remember my dad telling me about it. When I was a little guy ( I'm 71 now ) my grandfather and I would go there. There was a little bbq place he would get us a sandwich. BTW, all us locals spell it Cahaba. We never added a W to it.
6:10 I know that song it's "Chopping Broccoli" by Dana Carvey
We have been invaded by the tiny house nightmare.and they are trying to turn Newport into a tourist stop!!! Its sad😢
My great great great great grandparents. Armstrong, Rogers,Amis.
It's interesting to see the changes in downtown in the 4 years since this video was posted. Some of the buildings that were vacant then now have tenants for the first time in decades.
This was great, thank you!
There is a fully uniformed Confederate soldier caught there
I know exactly where it is. I can't remember her name. We got an evp from her grave that said, "I want to teach, teach." The grave is in the second part of the cemetery on the right side past the stone entrance. It is not an eastern Star symbol. The pentogram contains what looks to be a snake & a spider.
Cantrell and Crump would fit right in with the corrupt democrat machine of today.
I'm from Monroeville. Ms. Harper passed away in Manhatten and had sadly lived the last decades of her life spending most of her time there. My family still lives there today. There isn't a whole lot left to see aside from the play as unfortunate as that is. When I was growing up there in the 80s and 90s it was a pretty busy place. I used to spend my summers as a kid selling watermelons and sweet potatoes across the street from that water tower.
Crazy fact; I recently uncovered the significance of my family history to Newport! In 1747 one of my very great grandfathers Jehu John Stokely moved from Wales to Del Rio, Tennessee. He was Later buried in Rock Town. He served in the North Carolina Malitia and referenced in several records! (National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution) several o his grandchildren joined the confederacy/military! Charles Stokley (presumably a grandchild) after having to leave the military helped to serve and better the community of Newport! “He was one of the men of the First district of Cocke County, tennessee who worked to get a railroad through this area. In the late 1860’s, the work began to bring results for by 1868 it was possible for an excur- sion train to run from new- port to sulphur springs near Morristown. the next year 1869 the railroad extended to buffalo rock, just beyond wolf Creek. august 3, 1869 was a memorable day when the frst train arrived at big Creek in del rio. at that time the train only went one mile beyond the station. the engine was a wood burner and its name was the “old dominion.” Somewhere along the lines my mother’s surname changed to Raines. My grandmother past away about two years ago. Her name was Margaret Sue Raines. And was well loved by the people on her street. We have pure English blood and I’m proud of what I found in the archives! Newport was a lovely place to settle!
Thos shpuld have been done long time agp . Because Biden cheated and was installed with the help of dempnrats just like Paul Cantrell a democrat too.
Interesting History ! Thank you for sharing.
FRIENDLY CROSSINGS (❤)2006
Wake up America it’s coming again big time ach
I know that church 🙂
That's part of my family history,I'm a Swagerty family member 😁 Would love to see it in person ☺️ maybe some day.
Visited there two years ago. I met a nice man there who took me into his home and helped me find a ride to Knoxville. Tazewell is a beautiful place, the creeks are awesome! I'd love to go back there one day.
The civil war house off rock springs is another cool place just get permission to enter
This is one of the three in the area the other two are privately owned and in the woods graves with just flat rock shove down
So very interesting. Ive been wanting to go back to see the area my family came from before they came to Texas.
I went in There for a field trip
Keep your 🚗 doors locked and you 🔫 handy!!!!…. Just go… and you’ll see why!!!!!!😬 town looks like an abandoned movie set used on The Walking Dead..where the bloods and cryps hanging out!!!!!!😳
Abednego Inman is my 8x great uncle. His father Ezekiel is my 8x great-grandfather. May I inquire about the Inman grave you showed? It looked like Apah K Inman but hard to tell what it said.
www.findagrave.com/cemetery/13606/memorial-search?firstname=&middlename=&lastname=Inman&cemeteryName=Dandridge+Revolutionary+War+Graveyard&birthyear=&birthyearfilter=&deathyear=&deathyearfilter=&memorialid=&mcid=&linkedToName=&datefilter=&orderby=r&plot=&page=1#sr-39262567
There is a group of people that document graveyards but I don't recall who they are.
@clutteredcompass It was Miss Sarah K Inman. I'll have to see how we're related. Thank you.
When you get the chance. Go check out my home town, it's Dahlonega Georgia. Beautiful place and a beautiful road trip too. It would be so super cool to talk about the gold nugget 💛 (my hometown)
are there any kool shops or restaurants there?
Do you know where the Sanatorium was located? I think it was in the late 1800s or early 1900s.
I do not. But I'd love to know.
That was my family's church 😭
The church in the beginning is Cedar Grove Baptist church. My Great grandfather LM Eliis was the pastor. All my ancestors are buried there except my Uncle Charles who was Judge Eliis and started Citizens back and Trust. The other side of my family were the Smiths who started the drug store and funeral home. A million and and a multitude of stories of a great time. It took over 2 years to go thru over 185 years of history that was kept.
Thank you for sharing this.
I bet they were Democrats since they did try the hardest to keep people from voting especially people of the darker hue.
What’s the name of the trail that goes to this?
I believe it's Brush Creek trail.
@@clutteredcompass thank you!
Where is Chucky TN located
I was born there, but never knew about this information. Amazing.
My mom was born there in 1938 her name is Clara suggs
Relatives of those who have past away spent money for their burials, yet those who operate these cemetery's do nothing about the mold on all of these headstones. It's sad. There are people who do clean them, and their videos are here on you tube.
Nice video
I went to Kingwood, I lived on campus for many years, I don't remember a pool. The church, and other buildings remain from the Kingwood school from back in the day.
I live on Custer drive in front of Bethesda
I'm gonna be down there this weekend 🎉
I liked hearing the history on Johnson City. As I'm moving there very soon. I have family who live in Johnson City.
Are you here yet?
