From Dubai’s diverse food scene to the kitchens and street corners of the Middle East, Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and Asia, we’ll explore dishes that bring us closer to the people and traditions that make them special.
You won’t find viral gimmicks or ratings here. Just real food, recipes, and cultural experiences I’ve discovered over the years of being a food tour guide, podcaster and writer. 'Ditch The Silver' means that we leave the polished tableware behind to savor food the way it’s meant to be-simple, soulful, and unforgettable.
Join me, sleeves up and ready, at the table.

👇🏽Have you tried any of these foods before? Which one -- Egyptian, Moroccan, Egyptian or Sudanese -- would you actively hunt down to try?
Why is she looking around like someone will steal that sandwich from her?
No idea! Maybe cause that sandwich makes me irrationally possessive 😅
So that’s what happened to Priya after Big Bang Theory ! We need way more flavours to explore and reviewed
LOL. I might just have to respond to this in an upcoming video. Stay tuned.
Wow, this video was an absolute delight! The way you explored the mystery Iranian dish was both informative and entertaining. Your enthusiasm and storytelling make me want to try Kale Pacheh myself. Keep up the fantastic work, and I can't wait to see what culinary adventure you take us on next!
Thank you so much! Kale Pacheh is definitely a wild one to try, but the trotters (pacheh) are so worth diving into the deep end. Appreciate you watching and glad the storytelling landed for you-it’s one of my favorite parts of doing this. More adventures coming soon!
I love you because you are so amazing and beautiful and humble and just being yourself and I like realness of your culture I love your traditions and your lifestyle ❤ praise Allah for you ❤️🙏
What a beautiful message, thank you for watching. My teacher Sakina will be really touched when she reads this!
chemistry class😅
I almost pulled out my pocket chalk to write out the equations but no blackboard 😭
Thanks for sharing these Gems..❤
It’s what I love doing, thank you for watching and being a part of this tour! ❤
going dubai soon will definately visit this place thanks to you !!!!! i love u n ur work
@@nissanswan6248 you’re so welcome! I hope you enjoy this on your Dubai trip! Remember the key is to order all the right toppings on the table - stuffed falafel, hummus, eggplant & cauliflower, chilli sauce - and then you put everything into one messy sandwich and…💥
Amazing! The Pani Puri sounds incredible. 😇 Can't wait for the next episode to see what other hidden gems you uncover!🙂
Thanks for watching! That pani puri just hits right💥 More hidden gems every Wednesday (though next week might be back in Dubai) but stay tuned, I’ll share part 2 of Abu Dhabi soon! 💃🏽
You mentioned Chaat chaska in video. But Chat Junction is best in town for taste and variety of Sandwiches and Chaat. It is just opposite Chaat chaska
You’re right, Chaat Junction is right across and there’s always more people there! I did try it but preferred Chaat Chaska - but then again, food is SO subjective. The best strategy is to have one plate from each and then decide your personal favorite 🥰
Thanks for the video. Im in Abu Dhabi and will definitely try this pink tea
Amazing, I hope you enjoy it! 🤍
mouth watering surely on my next visit i will order
Thanks for watching! I hope you get a chance to try these places soon!
Thank you. Thank you again for a power packed interesting video
You’re so welcome, and I really appreciate the kind words! I hope you have an incredibly delicious time when you visit Dubai 🤍
💬Abu Dhabi foodies, tell me what other food spots I’ve got to check out? Can’t believe it took me this long to start exploring the incredible food scene in the capital 🙌🏽
Please try restaurants at Musaffah, Shabiya 11... plenty of South Indian restaurants are available
@@kdfg.I love South Indian food,! I could eat dosas for the rest of my life 😅 any specific restaurants you’d recommend in Mussaffah? Thanks in advance! 🙏🏽
@ditchthesilver : No specific as I feel all are good in terms of price and taste. You can try by visiting one of the restaurants.
@@kdfg. Got it, I'll eat around and see what I find, thank you again for the excellent tip!
try Mama'esh too! good video!
OMG I'm a 100% with you. I ADORE Mama'esh, their hummus game is so strong! But you know what's even better? Their rummaniyeh -- eggplant, pomegranate molasses, brown lentils. That dip is a revelation. And thank you for watching, appreciate the kind words!
@@ditchthesilver how do you know so much about food??! I love your enthusiasm in the videos and also the way you explain things.
@@AbhaySingh-hw9dq I eat ALOT 😂 But the serious answer is that I've learned a lot running walking food tours in Dubai since 2013. My sister and I run a food tour company called Frying Pan Adventures that takes people to taste foods of Old Dubai and experience the alleys and stories that are often overlooked, do check it out when you're in the city next! (Ps we share a lot of food recommendations on Insta too -- @fryingpanadventures)
@@ditchthesilver I did go to your website..honestly quite a unique idea! Also I do live in dubai itself. trine get a dopamine detox going and off insta for a while lol. Wish you all the best across all platforms arva
@@AbhaySingh-hw9dq I totally understand, that's such a good thing to just disconnect for a while. Thank you for the wishes and enjoy your detox time!
lets do a cheeseburger video!
Confession: I've never been a burger sort of girl but if it's a REALLY interesting burger (ie not oversauced, overhyped, toppling over with way too many ingredients) I might actually consider. Any recommendations? PS. a brisket burger is one of those things I'll happily get behind.
@@ditchthesilver What I have tried in dubai is pickld and salt...nothing crazy, but the problem is they are so small haha I don't thing I have any recommendations as of today which you wouldn't have already tried. I have been watching a lot food vlogs from India but havent found anything good in Dubai yet, maybe you are a celebrity in making. Appreciate you taking the time to reply to the common man :)
@@AbhaySingh-hw9dq Teible had an incredible burger back in the day, I need to go back and try it. High Joint is one that I have yet to try, but a lot of people love it to bits. You've given me an idea...it might be fun to do a burger/patty across cultures, that's something I might be up for exploring in a video! But spoiler alert, I'd pick a desi bun kebab over a burger any day 😂 And I'm just a common (wo)man too ;) Thanks for taking the time to watch!
@ i’ll be looking forward to the day a burger video is out 😌
Were is the my video 😊
I’m guessing you’re asking for the full video? Here you go! ua-cam.com/video/Y1dQX5UiLiE/v-deo.html
Thank you for an awesome and very informative video. This video was so great to watch as I am currently planning to visit Dubai. I would like to ask you a question which is not food related. Can you confirm if there are golf carts or chauffer s to take you through gloab village.
How exciting that you’re planning a trip to Dubai, Global Village is definitely one of those high energy, super fun spots to hit up and I’m glad this video will be helpful for you! To answer your question, they do mention they have in park taxis. If it’s just one family member who needs the assist, another option they have by the main entrance are these motorized chairs which are easier to navigate through the crowd. For kids they have these cute push carts designed like cars but personally I find those a bit cumbersome to push through crowded areas. I’d recommend also downloading the Global Village app - that’s where I buy tickets and figure out what shows are on that evening. Hope this helps!
Thank you so very much for your assistance and your super awesome videos
Food is one of the best way to feel connected and happy.
Well said! And I think this concept transcends cultures 💛 Thank you for watching!
I am seriously eating the whole time in the video 😂 tells you how much I was enjoying it 😅😊
LOL! That's you really taking the job seriously, and I appreciated it -- I love people who love to eat! Thank you for joining me that day, I loved sharing that food with you and the others 💛
You talk too much! Let Sakina speak
Thanks for watching and for your feedback!
That was fun!
Thank you for joining Samor, what a fun crew we had that day :) hope we get to feast together again soon!
@@ditchthesilverindeed yes! Definitely fun, can’t wait for the next one
Ah, the legendary quest for the Iranian secret sauce! 😂 seriously, keep us posted on your investigation. Happy hunting! 😊 👏🏻
Right?! I'm totally on the hunt! Let’s hope I don’t end up with just a bottle of ketchup! 😂
Loved this. I"m going to try making chebab
That’s amazing, good luck! Cream cheese and date syrup are the best toppings 🤍
🤔Have you tried or would you try Kale Pacheh? Or a similar nose-to-tail dish?
i love how light hearted like in a girltalk u brought this all with a lil smile, not all doom and gloom when discussing all the prejudice questions we want to know
Thanks for watching and for the kind words! We did want exactly that -- for it to feel relatable, like you were having a chat with friends. So glad you felt that vibe!
@@ditchthesilver 👍❤ very well ladies. Ma sha Allah
I love your energy
That’s so kind of you! Thank you for watching and for the positive words 🤍
The anchor is irritating
Sending positive energy your way! ✨
Found the same. The questions were really annoying and disrespectful/insulting! Didn’t get past the 1st minute! Was really looking forward to the video!
@@eurekacomment5719 I understand why you felt that way - those questions do come across as abrasive. As I mentioned right at the start, I’ve been a tour guide for over a decade, and many people I’ve met legitimately have exactly these questions. So I’ve quoted the common ones upfront with the explicit goal of answering them constructively through the video. Thank you for your comment and peace to you!
The Emirati lady is so calm and welcoming and not intruding.
@@mervinpinto6186 Spot on! Sakina is amazing and so generous with her knowledge, that's what makes her a great language teacher too!
I love the thought of Sheikh Zayed. He was such a noble and loving man. A provider❤❤❤❤❤
Truly. May God rest his soul in peace. الله يرحمه ✨
I enjoyed the conversations, the culture. But It’s a thumbs down for the videography. Kindly do stabilise the video it would be helpful for the viewers to watch without a disturbing sight.
Thank you for watching! And your point is a valid one, I’ll work on getting a little better with every video with exactly this sort of guidance, so thanks for sharing it 🤍 onward and upward!
Thank you for understanding. Keep doing more ♥️
Oooh yes! I feel like Levantine Arabic can be a lot more romantic with its phrases and stuff. Sakina was a delight to watch ❤❤
Isn’t she? I don’t think I would have stuck through my classes if not for her - she always adds some extra cultural masala to all our classes 💃🏽
I think the lugaimat story really got me. It was so sad for something that brings so much joy 😢
Seriously. Willing myself to temporarily forget poor Lega before I meet my next batch of luqaimat again…
I am so surprised as even us Tamil Muslims from the southernmost Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka also have the same culture of eating from the "sahan"-one big plate, especially during festivals and weddings.
Isn’t it fascinating! It stems from how Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) used to eat.
Arva, your words truly capture the heart and soul of what makes Cameluschi so extraordinary! Ursula's story is a beautiful reminder of the unique, authentic experiences that are often hidden away in the most unexpected places. The blend of German precision and Emirati warmth is exactly what makes this so special. Thanks for sharing this amazing insight, and for celebrating the raw, real beauty of Dubai's desert culture. What an inspiration!
Thank you for your thoughtful comment! I'm so glad you enjoyed Cameluschi's story, she's truly remarkable.
👇🏽What was the most surprising thing you heard on this video? Was there something you wish I'd asked?
OH WELL I AM SOOOO SURPRISED WHEN SHE SAID IT IS BETWEEN DOSA AND CREPE. Wooohoooo
Another one is finjan-we call it pingan in Tamil and I was told by a Filipino sister that it is also the same word for porcelain in Tagalog. I loved when she kept emphasizing about the Islamic etiquette that is deep rooted in Emirati culture, a proof that Islam spread to South East Asia through the manners of the Muslim Arab traders, and it is surprising how we have a lot of things in common that has come from them.
Story of Lugaimat 😢

"Salim didn't do *her version* of a good job". There are you are, Arva. Your words are a reflection of the empathy & compassion you have in your heart :)
You are the sweetest, thank you for watching! That moment in the kitchen was so classically Ushi -- no mess lady!
Finally moving to dubai permanently... Need this type of exposure of food in emirate... Would be great helpful
Welcome (in advance) to Dubai! So glad that this will come in use once you move here. There’s so many different options, TOO MANY options frankly, get ready to eat ALOT 😅 and that’s why I’ll be sharing many more videos on what I’d recommend as someone who grew up here & who’s done food tours for over a decade. Thanks for watching and excited to have you in my community!
@ditchthesilver oh thats really a very sweet gesture for ur side.. Actually for pakistanis dubai(uae) is quite approachable from tourist point of view but in term of food exposure Alot of things r still to discover.. Hahahaha Mr Reza telling you he’ll give you a bill if you eat one more bite was so precious and funny 😆
Lol his brand of logic is one I've never understood after all these years!
This was such a fun watch! That shawarma looked NUTS. I'm a chicken shawarma girl through and through, I don't think I had a beef one till I was MUCH older, but that shawarma bowl might convert me. Also, passionfruit anything is solid.
Thanks for watching! Seriously that shawarma is legit. They also have a musakhan rice situation for people who prefer chicken.
@@ditchthesilver I’ll be honest. The only reason I prefer chicken shawarma over beef has nothing to do with the meat. I’m just looking for my garlic hit.
