That Got Me Through High School and College
It's time to look back on the life of the PSP as we check out the 10 PlayStation Portable games that I spent loads of time with through high school and college. There's lots to love in the PSP's library and that'll let me shine some light and show you what it was like for me having a PSP in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
Welcome to Fireside Gaming! We release a new video every couple of weeks. Look for us to upload between Friday and Sunday!

    This game gets dogged on nonstop for not being the edgy GoT-style epic that the original Tactics was, but I will die on the hill forever that it is overall a better Final Fantasy story than its parent. Perhaps even one of the best in the series.

    • @FiresideGamingReviews
      @FiresideGamingReviews День тому

      I can agree that FFTA has a story that is more inline with other FF games. However, I don't think its fair to call FFT's story an "edgy GoT-style epic." It has mature themes but doesn't revel in debauchery and while the world is corrupt, Ramza is not. He and his companions are the good people unwilling to let the clear evil of the world win. That's what separates it from GoT-style stories.

    I actually have played that 101 dalmations game, though the only bit I remember is when Jasper is ice fishing for fish and chips and the dog bark scares him into falling in the water. Some great PS2 pick ups. Ape Escape 2, Dark Cloud 2, and metal slug anthology sound great. Appreciate the family Friendly game selections. And the Impromptu Transformers Toy tour from Fall of cybertron. Fall of cybertron is a vast improvement from war for cybertron. Its even more cinematic. Good that you got it around $40 because its just going to become more sought after. Fairly considered the Best Transformers game ever. Even if that has just raised the expectations for future Transformers games to an unrealistic degree. Glad you Enjoyed Sege. Its the best gaming show in the southeast. Perhaps I'll see you next year.

    You... do you know what you just did to me (you're going to laugh)?! A little background is needed first. When I'm driving at night by myself, I often listen to podcasts or play UA-cam videos. I connect my phone to my system in my car and set it in my center console (so I'm not tempted to watch the screen). Here I am driving and listening to your take on Mega Man X7 when you start talking about a certain boss with bad music/sound. Then, you play it for us. I have two Alpine 10-inch woofers and tweeters in my car. I thought I was under attack by Jurassic Park. The entire park from all the films decided it wanted to kill me and my Challenger all at once. I ripped the phone out of my console and just powered the damn thing off. Then I had to park for a few seconds because I could not stop laughing, you son of a.... that was good.

    i believe if the maps were more creative and detailed in terrain layout like in fire emblem, and if the monster mage (the one that "morphs into monsters") actually turned into the monsters they morph into and copied their movement types, it would've been more loved. Note: my favorite job is the Monster mage Job. i love the idea of defeating (in this case, Capturing) monsters and acquiring monsters souls to turn into them and use their powers. the Blue mage is neat and more useful if you want to use monster skills, but had the monster mage did what i wrote above then it would've been a better version of blue mage.

    • @FiresideGamingReviews
      @FiresideGamingReviews 21 день тому

      It's definitely something that could've been more detailed. I actually don't deal much with the beat classes (Morph, Blue Mage or Beastcaller) because they just don't feel fleshed out enough. I might give them another shot since I'm still playing this file more on post-game.

    • @Anime-Wyvern
      @Anime-Wyvern 21 день тому

      @@FiresideGamingReviews Blue and Morpher are similar in that they use beast skills, but how they do changes how you would use them. Blue mage often requires a good punch in the face to learn their skill which can be inconvient, but My favorite class Morpher requires you to swicth between monster soul styles. fortunatley this includes all monsters of that type so you can use all three dragon/wrym skills, but if you want to use goblin punch you need to change to a goblin. in short, they are a fun class to use as monsters have skills that the player often never gets, but getting said skills can be tedious. for example, morph into a lamia and use frog. most battles get a lot easier. however, things like level 5 death or level 3 (insert skill here) get tricky to use because you have to remember which monster has said skill and what level is your opponent. TL:DR all monster/beast related jobs are versatile and helpful in the right circumstances, but due to each having a small draw back to their abilities makes using them require a bit more thought. sorry for text wall, got a lot to say and this stuff is hard to trim down without loosing context. 😅

    22:20 the party members you have also gain EXP in the background even if you never use them. Best example to describe it, when you get 100 EXP, your two party members get 70 EXP, and all the party members you don't have with you get 30 EXP in the background. Not actual numbers but an idea of how EXP is handled, to show that the unused party members are "playing" when you aren't.

Unlocking Alia, Layer and Pallete as playable characters is one of the coolest unlocks I’ve seen. Losing all your money after failing to finish a league is so brutal, you really need to save between every match just to prevent having to lose all your progress!

    I fell hard into this franchise during high school. I remember my friends all calling Sign boring but I kept trying to insist it was “deep” haha. But reading the novels like both AI buster books and the legend of twilight manga was amazing to see the connections like mistral’s daughter inheriting her mom’s account, though if I remember correctly she says she’s having a boy in the game. I think i had to get up at about 4 or 5 am on Saturdays to catch Cartoon Network broadcasting the legend of twilight anime

      Yeah, I remember hating trying to watch LoT because of it's odd air time. And yeah Mistral says boy in the games buts it's a mistranslation. It made me assume she had two kids back when I was first watching it.

      I’m looking forward to more videos on this. i could go on and on about this franchise. I even bought a booster box of their TCG

      I do enjoy TCGs but never checked out the Dot Hack one. Might have to look into it at some point. The wife and I are currently into the Digimon card game after slowly moving away from Pokemon and Magic. And I'll make sure to at least cover the IMOQ and GU games on this channel. Maybe more depending.

    While gameplay is just playing as a Wavemaster (in that you spent so much time in menus), I still do love the IMOQ era of Dot Hack games. The mysterious feeling of The World, the almost fragility feel of the internet here, even the very unusual looks of most of the characters (though learning that character designer for IMOQ was the same guy who made Neon Genesis Evangelion suddenly makes sense), all combined to make Dot Hack feel like so unique. Even the music adds to this. I love hearing the Prairie field theme, and the transition to the normal and battle theme and back. Oh, and especially Mac Anu, it's such a beautiful theme. Oh, and I second the notion for making videos on the novels. Their a bit harder to track down and read compared to the anime's, and I haven't seen much coverage of them here on UA-cam (though that might just be me).

      I'll mark that down for interest in novel story videos. And I agree with the music being great. I do wish there was a little more variety but what's there is awesome. Especially Mac Anu. Also, I didn't know the character designer was the same for NGE. That's a fun tidbit.

    FFTA appreciation in the 2020s! 🎉 It's been 20 years and I think I'll remember the music and themes of this game for the rest of my life.

    "A young man was charged with misdemeanor when he drank a potion. There were no illegal substances inside the potion, but the referee decreed that it was against the rules for this combat. Later, another young man was arrested for attacking an enemy when the judge felt like making it illegal. Neither side made a move, as the completely ridiculous laws caused the leaders of both sides to go to jail."
