Jimmy McRae 5 Times British Rally Champion Interview
Hope he improves the moulds because the finish in Duttons was rubbish
@@meeshker I cannot argue. They were very much built down to a price and were a car of their time. The new car HAS to reflect modern standards
The car pictured is the same as mine, same wheels, seats etc 😁
Right on.
The curious thing is: chassy n3 stratos prototype that was shown in 1972 at torin motorshow had a lancia beta momentarily installed!.
@@ettoredomini4614 this is true
5 year waiting list on these cars. LOL
@@macmaven5037 this is true but from first hand experience worth every second
Co- drove probably the first Stratus Replica on forest rallies. Early 2000s
Wonderful. You must have some wonderful memories
@@enwins first couple of rallies weren't as we developed it as we went. Hardest bit first rally was getting thru scrutineering. 😊
Wow yes remember the Gecko. Their adverts were always good from memory. Re the Pimlico, I found what may well be a Pimlico shell in the strangest of places earlier this year - the Hovercraft Museum at Lee On The Solent - they have a one off little hovercraft with a glassfibre Mini body and its sills look pretty much Domino!
@@islaws4589 Intriguing. I wonder what the story behind that is?
@@enwins Am not sure and should have asked as the volunteers working there were amazing & very knowledgeable...was a bit distracted by the massive SRN4 cross channel hovercraft outside! There is a picture of it on the museum website but cannot find any other info online.
Would be very keen to see an episode on the Pimlico, high quality and well styled little car..
@@roum22 I agree completely. I will look for photos and definitely do that one. If someone out there has one it would be great to film an owners video on one too
A wonderful watch..Thankyou Jimmy
Thank you
A great summary. Thank you
Thanks for posting!
I am glad you e enjoyed it
Ha I own a Caterham and was born in Croydon (not the UK, but Australia Victoria) in 1959
@@peterday2732 They are a great car. A lot of fun to drive out there too in your climate, I imagine
I have the 6.0 LS2 Monaro. I didn't know these earlier VXR's existed. I've learnt something today 👍
Jimmy regularly came to the Donegal Rally, he was always great to watch, great driver
Indeed and a true gentleman. I hope you enjoyed the interview
BAHAHA, look at the door gaps, no prob if you lost the keys...climb in through the gaps🤣...take the wheels off and push it in a skip🤣
@@markholroyde9412 well I did say it was said to be a challenging build. One does try to hint subtly

July 1983
All junk
facinating account of events at that time.
Are you making this up as you go? Your very halting speech and unsureness really throws off the timing of the presentation. Would be better if you worked up a script to help you speak more smoothly. Good info though! Thank you!
Old. No. I have a crib sheet of facts. I just find voiceovers a challenge. I hope to improve. Bare with...
Came across one of these many years ago At first glance looked pretty good on the road. Seem to recall also passing the garage where these were produced somewhere in Central Lancashire close to Burnley.
Sounds like the right part of the World. I think the later more realistic Countach replicas look better, but still not an easy build by any means
If remember correctly quite a few unfortunate folk's started building countach replicas, hardly any finished.
Yes, you are right
I read somewhere that the Venom moulds were taken in a mill that still stands in Denton, Manchester and also recall it's picture in the 1986 Which Kit? Guide as looking very much like a genuine but waxy Countach sat inside a dusty workshop...possibly being 'the' hired Countach after having a mould taken, rather than a built replica. The guide may still be in a box in my loft so will try and find it for another look! There was a video on here a couple of years ago in which someone was trying to fundraise to produce a documentary to tell the full story but I cannot find it unfortunately, it would be a fascinating if it ever came to fruition. Incidentally there is a good documentary on the Hagarty UA-cam channel about the Cannonball Run Countach that's worth a watch!
@@islaws4589 Thanks for that. You are right. A Countach was hired for a weekend and moulds taken in an old mill. The hire car returned with plasticine still stuck to it. I met one of the characters involved around 20 years ago and it is quite a story. The full story varies depending who you talk to. Especially as people fell out with each other so the full, true story may never be told because there is so much dispute about who did what.
Thank you.
Looking forward to this.
Thanks so much for uploading this. Often overlooked by the exploits of Colin, Jimmy McRae is most definitely a rallying legend. His rivalry with Russell Brookes in particular was great to follow.
@@mickrichBMXWRXJapan I agree. A legend
I remember him on the Gwynedd Rally in the late 70s with the SMT Magnum
I hope the video brought back good memories
Why do the engine bays in replicas always look like total shit. Seems everyone is happy to try and have a nice paint job and all the badges, and have shit engine bays and interiors. Put some thought and time into these if you want to be taken seriously.
I can't speak for the owners but I suspect they are more interested in a car they can use and enjoy than concourse finish. I do get your point but what matters most is getting pleasure for yourself
@@enwins I don't think it's about a concourse finish, it's pride in doing a decent job in the first place. Yes enjoy the car and the fun it brings, but at least pay the vehicle homage and do a decent job.
Brilliant video a true gentleman
Thank you. And yes, a real gentleman. A real pleasure to interview
I used to own one! I had LPN 141P, chassis no 0. I sold it on to a chap in France a couple of years ago.
Aw. I would have loved to come and see it. Lovely cars
Nick Green (as in NG cars) was building minor based cars whilst he was at college.
This is true. I forgot about that one
I remember seeing the MCA at what I believe was the first national kit car show, this being at the Lincolnshire Showground, the next year it moved to Newark. Anyway it was an impressive well thought out vehicle, far better quality than many offerings at the time, and hence a bit above the bargain basement price levels of the likes of Dutton. Great shame it didn't achieve the success it rightly deserved..
It was a lovely little thing
This was the man that got me into rallying West cork rally Cork 20 Circuit of ireland When he drove Vauxhall chevette hsr brilliant
I think Jimmy vs Russell. World of sport. Got me hooked too
Awesome 👏 insightful memories, I have one myself I’m 44 now but back in 94 me and my father Charles Wilson who knew Jimmy met up at Carinbaan Lochgilphead Argyll Jimmy was with a very young Alastair and we all watched a very young Colin tare through the Argyll rally in his SMT sponsored Nova!
Those memories are priceless
I went to look at the TA when they first appeared on the scene, a lovely well engineered product, it was just too much of a stretch for my limited budget. Bought an early no doors Marlin kit instead, another high quality kit designed by someone who knew what they were doing..
Two excellent cars. The Marlin roadster has always been a favourite of mine
Legend say no more .
Absolutely. A really nice man too!
Sour grapes lol
That is a challenger at 11:46 it was a 1 off version incorrectly registered as a historic jaguar there is a video about that with it looking tired and jaguar badges on the side i watched a year or 2 ago
Thanks so Much brilliant to see...met him in Mayo ireland in 2022 at a Dèjà vu drive got small interview, he finished with 7 Circuit of Ireland wins 4 of the Marathon and 3 of Shorter ones@paddy Sullivan VHS 📼 1990s Cork ireland

A year or so back I hit 2 large deer with my 04 miata. All glass is fine, and it is still relatively straight. But the whole front end was a cosmetic loss. I got carried away with the foam and fiberglass. First time I've ever made anything like a car body. And, it is pretty ridiculous. I feel like the fellow that put this together was of a similar mind. Adjusted for inflation, if I could find 2 people to pay me (what would it be now? 25-30K?) for my monstrosity, I'd be quite pleased, lol. I'd say he did well to complete it and even to sell 2. Wow, that is an ugly thing! (couldn't hold it in any longer)
I cannot argue with that
Had one of the first TC's MGB 1800 great handling had the rare door kit! Loved it all!
Lovely cars
My mate used to build these kits in the UK.
Blast the music as loud as you want...it's still going to be a terrible replica.
Nice scenery from the drones.
Thank you
Looks very similar to a Triumph TR7
No thanks, I'll pass on your slide-show party.
These replicas were ok back in the day but the pityfull engines they used just dont cut it. .....the noise was an important attraction. IMO
I understand where you're coming from but the originals are so valuable now there is always a place for them. Not for me though. I can't get in them anymore haha.
Like having sex with a doll. Well, at least looks the same... 😊
Good video thanks 👍
Fantastic car. 2x👍 I had a Vauxhall Firenza that I fitted Rover V8 3.5L running gear into, the axle needed trimmed a little. This was before CAD and 3D printing, just clever people helping me.
Thanks for sharing. I always loved the looks of the Firenza. Fantastic car
