Yesterday, I switched out my Purolator Boss for a Purolator ONE in my 2021 Ford F-150 3.5L EcoBoost. Great video again bro! The Mobil 1 that you have in this video is actually an older version of their filters. The new ones come in a different packaging and have slightly different internals. The new ones have a metal seam and a purolator style bypass valve. This older one has a better bypass valve design though. Maybe next time you can compare the newer style Mobil to the purolator. I recommend the M1-108A or the M1-110A for comparison. Keep up the consistency bro!
@@sixtyminute4482 hey 60! Thanks for the words of encouragement!! Will do!! 😎❤️

@@erice4611 hey Eric! Thanks for checking out this short! Glad to hear from you! I run this oil with a Purolator One!

Yes! Have you ever seen these engines torn apart? Or the coked up tailpipes?
@@seanmclaughlin7415 hey Sean! Thanks for checking out this video, I haven’t seen an engine tear down. Are you saying non-Euro oil causes engine components to coke up in Euro cars?
@ No. I am saying that Euro engines (not all) have a tendency to carbon up and needs a different formula to compensate for this. It may depend on how well they are maintained, too. Or, have abused they are.
@@seanmclaughlin7415 do you think I can get away with using VRP in the Audi engine if I do 2500 OCIs?
I don’t mix viscosity’s I simply change it to my current climate/usage demands. Vehicle calls for 0w20 it gets 0w30 up to 10w40 and no it doesn’t effect my wear rate, performance, drivability or fuel mileage. Yes I have VVT.
@@NoName-tz5ji hey there! I did the same when I had my Acura mdx. It said to use a different viscosity when the weather either gets colder or warmer. No idea why there isn’t anything like that for my F-150..
I have started using VRP in a number of vehicles, one is a 2nd gen 3.5. It seems to be more quiet and smoother, time will tell. I am staying with it for the rest of the time I have the vehicle.
@@cliffh8486 hey Cliff! Glad to hear you’re seeing results. I’m planning to do the same for my truck!
I just do a 20 second squirt of WD40 in my gas tank.
@@Gspizzy hey thanks for stopping by! wait really? First time I’ve heard of this. What does it do exactly for the engine?
I agree that it’s a standard response. I disagree / take issue with the viscosity recommendations of the last several years. There used to be big viscosity charts in owners manuals based on climates . If you drive long distances ,especially in hot climates you can watch your oil temperature climb. Conversely if you live in a northern climate in winter you may want a lighter viscosity. I have mixed and blended viscosities at oil change and as a top off . I prefer not to mix types or brands of motor oils .
@@RoadRacerGT1 Good morning GT1! I’ve actually seen exactly what you mentioned in the manual of my old 2008 Acura MDX. In the newer cars within my family, I haven’t been able to find that chart…. I’m wondering why it was removed.

Ive heard also that topping off your engine oil with different oil is ok 🤔
@@miguelmaldonado9881 interesting!! I’ve done it before but only in an emergency!
That’s a yes, you can mix them.
I don’t know about this! But I’m not an oil expert lol
Never a good idea to mix viscosities IMO. An oil is blended exactly the way it is originally for a specific reason. The balance of all ingredients needs to be kept in line. Mixing oils messes with the manual and proportion of each additive within that oil throwing the whole thing off and likely have unintended negative consequences since it is no longer blended as intended and likely will have unexpected negative outcome. Leave it to the manufacturer to do the science/testing to formulate an oil the best they know how. Messing with that formula is very likely to have additional engine wear.
@@forestpassineau good morning, Forest! I agree with you here!
Really nice looking filter there. Very surprised by how thing the housing walls are on that thing. The quality of the glue construction, the number of pleats, and the metal endcrimp seam all look great. I always use Mann filters for BMW and Benz vehicles, but it's always the cartridge type filter. I refuse all work on Volkswagen AG vehicles, as I don't hate myself that much. Nice video on this one, thanks for uploading it.
@@brassmule hey Brass! Morning! Is it really that hard to do an oil change on a Volkswagen? lol
The problem I see in my car that does not use these type of housing (the housing and lid is part of the car) you buy one like you disassembled and you drop it in there. I am on OCI 2 of Valvoline restore and protect to see if I can stop the car from burning so much oil, I burn a quart every 1000KM or so with highway/city driving. I made a long winded rookie video about it on my channel and a filter teardown on previous Castrol Oil vs OCI1 of VRP. I found that that most filters in my car no matter what brand are prone to "twisting" probably due to the high pressure oil pump in my car tho I heard about it in others vehicles... I found less twisting happens with FRAM XG series. I am not sure how much it is impacting filtering performance. I want to try and model it in CFD simulation software. I know my max oil temp in winter is 190.4F and max PSI is 65 at high RPM reading the ODBII sensors in realtime on my ipad using torque pro. It is changing the flow pattern when the filter gets twisted or deformed. I am not sure if it is of significance. There is some chatter that if the filter gets too clogged the twists get more prevalent and some have broken open or cracked for others. It is something to observe your next oil change. It doesn't seem to matter what oil is used either. I think it is distortion based on temperature and pressure the canister is under. FRAM XG was the only one that I found so far that has less twisting even with more KM's on it.
Have used the same Size Drop In Oil Filter Cartridge for over 21 years. Would agree the 2 Fram Ultra XG9018 filters I've used so far (During my First Oil Change of VRP in my Terrain last year) has performed the best so far compared to the other Straight Pleat Filters that have been commonly used in my vehicles since around 2004. The XG9018's build (with the Filter Media reinforced with a wire mesh) reminds me of the Heavier/Thicker "Zig Zag" Filter Cartridges that Saturn/GM originally used in my 2003 Saturn ION... They didn't "twist". The Pattern sort of provided structure. Not sure why they (Saturn/GM) got away from using them... The Original Oil Filter Cap was backwards compatible with the "Zig Zag" and Straight Pleat Filters... But all the new/replacement caps require the use of the Straight Pleat design. Seem to recall the PSI rating of the "Zig Zag" was different so would have been a problem if used in a newer Cap...
@@ampedupelectronics hey Amped!! I’ll check out your channel shortly! This is an incredible observation and one I have not payed much attention to! How often do you change out your oil? Do you run extended by chance?

On my last oil change I mixed 3 qts of Pennzoil UP 5w-30 with 3 qts Pennzoil UP 0w-40 with no issues yet lol. I actually sent off a virgin oil sample for analysis with this mixture and the results came back with great results. I wanted something a tad thicker than what the UP 5w-30 offers at operating temp. The 50/50 mix came back with the viscosity rating of a higher 30 weight oil which is exactly what I wanted. That 50/50 mix should offer better cold flow as well with the 0W-40
@@Horvath0819 hey dude! How did you determine that was the appropriate mix of the two oils? Or is that just from experimenting?
@ just from experimenting honestly haha. From all the used oil analysis I’ve seen of the Pennzoil UP 5w-30 it always seems like it ends up as a 5W-20 viscosity. I did a virgin sample of the UP 5W-30 and it came back as a 30 weight but on the thinner side with a cSt viscosity of 9.2 @100*C. The 50/50 mix of the UP 5W-30 and 0W-40 came back with a cSt viscosity of 10.8 @100*C which is on the higher side of the 30wt scale. I live in FL where it’s hot most of the year so I feel a higher viscosity 30wt will shear less over time. And actually the 50/50 virgin mix came back with better anti wear numbers than just the 5W-30 alone
@ I’m an oil nerd myself 🤣
@@Horvath0819 man I wonder if the oils are just not holding up its viscosity in our boosted engines. Do you wonder so too?
@@MidwestF150 from all the research I’ve done I haven’t seen anything negative about mixing oil weights as long as you stay with the same brand and line of oil
I do 1 quart of Valvoline R&P 0w-20 with 4 quarts Valvoline R&P 5w-20 during cold wintertime. Same viscosity 20 weight oil. Same brand and same (supposedly) R&P 20weight formulation. Summer time I will use 1 quart R&P 5w-30 with 4 quarts R&P 5w-20. It’s worked great for a long time. Engine just went past 358,000 miles this week and purrs like a kitten.

@@anthonybrincefield2812 hey Anthony - thanks for checking out this video! My thoughts are the same.
I agree abf2812. I can fully appreciate if your car manufacturer calls for a 0w-20 and you’re trying to use 20w-50. That’s a huge variation in viscosity that could perhaps cause issues internally within the engine. Especially dual OH cams that rely on engine oil pressure to engage things properly. But the differences between a 20w and 30w oil is minimal. They just covering their behinds from a liability standpoint.

I strongly disagree with the statement, spark plugs will not extend the life of a vehicle. If your plugs are bad, you're causing detonation to the piston heads, destroying them, just ask me how I know. Just run Iridium plugs and change them in half the time or mileage the manufacturer recommends. Do all maintenance in half of what the manufacturer recommends.
