If you have been a long time viewer of Gravesend Australia Diecast Salvage channel then you’ll know that I moved back to Gravesend from Sydney in December 2023. At that time I moved back there was the promise of regular work and the possibility of permanent full time employment. Unfortunately this has not eventuated, so I am asking for support of this channel by way of donation/s to my GoFundMe page.
gofund.me/632e14c9
The aim is to raise funds to purchase
Colour Laser printer to make decals and paper /cardstock buildings for diorama’s
3D Printer to assist in making spare parts that are not available or for diorama’s
Replacement Air compressor for Sand/Sodablasting, as the 15 year old compressor has stopped working
Also to maybe help out others later in this hobby as it’s not cheap hobby as some people might think.

Interesting how much was that vacuum former? The amazing melt is that PCL polymorph thermoplastic? I've purchased some of it but I haven't used it. I thinking because the plastic feels pretty quickly what would you need to make a resin mold couldn't you just hope the plastic going around the melt? Cheers Graham

ow, that one was heavily corroded! but you saved it nicely. I'm kind of glad you went with the coupe roof, I think the previous window frame would have been way too long proportion-wise. the coupe looks way better. :) and now we know why they invented vinly roofs: to cover up when they were too cheap to clean the c-pillar secions... ;) the others' red looks fine, too. went through my piles and boxes latey and found a number of castings I don't remember ever purchasing. so you're not alone with this. XD

aw, a Spot-On. :) those are really, really rare here in germany, where you could almost spit over the water and hit ireland... guess they never tried to export them to outside UK for the castings being all-british vehicles. not that kids would actually care. I think. nice colours, they look authentic. but I wonder why they gave it two outside spare wheels? one on the bonnet and one in the back... maybe there were jerrycans on a rack? looks like the casting has the tropical roof. ah, whatever. :)

If the Land Rover 12-seater Station Wagon is a Series 2 (which it looks like judging from the grille, door hinges and deeper sills) then it would have a flat dash with a central instrument cluster quite low, rather than the cluster centred above the steering wheel. A look on Google would give you a pattern for a wee sticker for the dash. Interesting that the casting has no fuel filler recess on the back wing. The white glue masking works brilliantly - I've been using that for years: if you thin it with water a little bit, it'll do for masking the side panels for a two-tone as well! Nice build, Michael - looks a treat!

13:00 ah yes, Polistil. they were high quality, before the founder sold it to Mattell, only to start over with Bburago later... I have a Ford Fiesta from that era, didn't realize all doors and lids would open before I had it in my hands, that's how exact they were cast. 19:25 those wheels look like stolen off some pullback-type model. :P please put on something that fits the wheel wells. :) a nice model, but the front is way too short and stubby. :/ 29:35 funny, I have the same casting laying here. :) looks the same, too. ;) the K70 was meant to replace the last DKW/NSU two-stroke-powered sedans, but then VW came and bought NSU off the hands of Mercedes, with this car almost ready to sell. so they reluctantly built and sold them while trying to kill the car off. which is a shame, it's really well-made. but destined to fail... 30:35 LOL the spanish police would maybe have killed for a partol car like this. XD a Stretcher Fetcher by MIRA? funky. the only thing that I see right away is the way the wheels are fastened. in my opinion the real problem the small MIRAs have, the wheels are pushed onto stubs cast into the baseplate. if it breaks off, you lose. I have one MIRA in mint condition if not for one missing wheel... 35:20 oooh, it's mint and complete, too! they have become rare here in germany for whatever reason. the larger Schuco in general, that is. 38:20 SIKu actually did a mix of T2a and T2b, for whatever reason. the twincab version has it, too, and this slip was never fixed. I'm not sure why the sliding door would fall out no matter the condition. my guess is the whole construction with the three pins loses either internal tension, or it moves around the middle. maybe one has to straighten it out slightly. 41:00 ah, Schabak. those are actually meant to be taken apart, so you'll only have to edge out the bumpers carefully and it should fall into pieces. :) those paper cut-out buildings are interesting, and they come with scaling instructions, too. :) some pieces should go onto corugated cardboard, maybe even the double-waved from the grocery market. weights nothign and is sturdy.

lovely colour on the Hornet. :) but the other, I can't tell in this lighting. is it like blank steel, with a hint of rust and then clearcoated, or just a copper or bronce colour? :) btw, with those gaps in the glass inserts, you can drill a tiny hole into the end of a gap to prevent it from spreading further from warm/cold or slight pressure movement. :)

The Hudson sedan was supposed to be a copper bronze colour. From a metal cast rattle can. Instead of an even spray it came out like it was not mixed even though I did use my rattle can paint mixer. It was a new rattle can and I think the spray nozzle was not fitted correctly as more paint came out from under the nozzle than through it. No clear coating was done. Cheers Michael

funky, I didn't know Majorettes made it to down under... :) I was waiting to give hints afterwards, but apparently these ain't the first Majorettes you've taken apart. ;) the most extreme on different paint hues on parts I have seen was on GAMA 1964 Ford Taunus coupe, where the doors were a considerably darker blue than the rest of the body. and since I have seen some obviously unrestored ones since then it seems to have been a feature at GAMA's back when. XD

The dinky toys Mercedes pullman suffer from the different shade of paint colour from the factory. When restorers use plain colours, it's not so noticeable. It's more noticeable on metallic colours, mainly due to the layering of the amount of paint used

Hi Mike, Greetings from Gravesend, England! Model railways float my boat but I do nonetheless like watching die-cast restoration channels in order to glean useful modelling tips. I was particularly interested in this project as I had a real Austin Somerset, also know as an A45, back in the late 60's. The car was made in 1955 and was quite spacious as it had a column change gear lever. This effectively provided a bench seat at the front, which my girlfriend at the time quite liked, enough said! I was particularly interested in your comment relating to blinkers as my A45 didn't have any, either on the front or rear! Instead it had what was known as a trafficator located in a slot cut into the door pillar on each side of the car. The trafficator slot can be clearly seen in the door pillar, on the photo of real green A45 that you have displayed. These were solenoid operated illuminated pointers about 15cms in length, which were operated by means of a directional switch mounted on the top side of the steering wheel boss. When the switch was operated the corresponding trafficator was supposed to spring out. They probably worked when the car was new but suffice it to say mine were bloody awful in that they were prone to sticking and so often gave no indication of my intention to turn. When turning right I often had to thump the door pillar in order to get the damn thing to spring out. Furthermore, even when they did work they were not that obvious to other drivers. Anyway, following several near misses I decided to treat myself to a Wipac indicator kit, purpose made for old cars like mine. The kit was comprised of 4 indicator lamps, a coil of wire, a fuse carrier and what was known as a flasher unit. These were wired up to the steering wheel switch and gave a clear flashing signal when turning a corner. Happy memories! Anyway please keep the videos coming as I do enjoy watching them. Best Regards Bob.
