(WR) SM64DS Any% 9:32.26

Back in August, I was intent on getting Any% WR, but I fell short and had to focus on school. Now starting on the 21st I picked up this game again and managed to achieve this before the year ended. Regarding each split, SSL and Mario were pretty solid, 2KDS setup was like a second off my best in practice so it's alright, BitS Entry was good besides the ledge grab that lost .5, and BitS was good with the strats I went for. I might keep grinding with the addition of TJWK in BitS for the sub 9:30 after I get the 5/5 main category sweep

It is, but it's not faster RTA because there's a ton of coins that only appear when selecting later stars. If you check the BOB 100 in the run, you see they used Yoshi + egg combos with a koopa, and a Giant Mushroom, none of them are here during the race.

Wait huh is this a massive coincidence or something? For those who don’t know, exactly 6 years before this record was set to the day, Super Mario 63 had a 100% record in 1:01:41 by Sekanor which is what got me to run it in the first place, so seeing things some full picture is really nice

how come the timer is nearly 2 minutes before the run actually starts? ive noticed that while casually looking at a couple of ds runs before
We use something called race file which is a save file where you just watch the intro cutscene, save and quit, which is basically just an untouched save file except that the intro has been watched so that we don't have to rewatch it on every attempt. The time added is the length of the intro basically
@@bobbybobsm64ds makes sense, is there a reason that time isn't just considered null cos its just a cutscene that's skipped each time anyway?
@@aliceyuri mostly just to preserve the "purity" of the speedrun by keeping it so that the final time is the amount of time it would take from a completely fresh file
