Taking pigs to processor on a DIY livestock trailer
The time has come to take our feeder pigs to the processor. While still in the start up phase of dealing with larger livestock than just chickens, we were still short the funds for a livestock trailer for hauling the pigs to the processor. In this video we decided to DIY our own livestock trailer and it happened to workout pretty well!

Budget Friendly Dog Kennel Review
Переглядів 5032 місяці тому
We were sent this awesome dog kennel from RYPetmia and it has actually turned out to be a great dog kennel for us! We primarily use it for pinning the dogs while collars are charging, but it has also been good for when we have little ones visiting the house. Several months in and it still looks as new as the day we put it together. Link to dog kennel: amzn.to/3M1kPZa
Testing Out This Budget Friendly Chicken Coop- Wonline

We received a chicken coop from wonline asking us to test out their product and give them a review. We accepted and we are glad we did. The coop turned out to be really good quality and it will come in handy for not only our current hens, future chicks, but also for meat birds down the road as well. It held up strong to being moved regularly and we are very happy with it. The link to check it o...

We happened to stumble across a post in our local chicken swap page talking about "the chicken man" making his rounds again. yeah no... if you buy a car port with a much stronger frame and throw durable sheeting over it ie: 10mil with string reinforcement, that should work and is probably cheaper than buying a 2k + winter proof poly tunnel kit

    • @easyworkacres
      @easyworkacres Місяць тому

      This was around $150 on Amazon at the time. And maybe $50 in lumber and other materials max. It held up well up until an 80+ mph windstorm blew through and one side caved in on one of the uprights. It’s an easy fix and overall still standing but we’ve since changed how we winterize the chickens in our main coop and are planning to use this as a regular greenhouse as it’s intended for now. We still think it’s a pretty good product for the price especially with a few cheap upgrades. Thanks for watching!

  • @archangelauriel007
    @archangelauriel007 Місяць тому

    It wouldn't be as fancy, but you could do essentially the same thing with cattle panels and a tarp, and the dogs would have had more space. Mighta even been cheaper too.

    • @easyworkacres
      @easyworkacres Місяць тому

      We actually did that with cattle panels. It worked but it was a pain in the but to move it to mow. And it didn’t look too nice either.😅 We got this for free for reviewing it but it has actually been good so far. Our dogs are never in it for more than an hour or two while their collars charge then they are free to roam the whole farm the rest of the time.

    Awesome build man! Love the new roll away boxes and the hardware cloth on the floor. I thought for sure the chickens needed nesting material in the boxes (hay, hemp, straw, etc.) but looks like they lay eggs directly on the hardware cloth with out you having to replace messy nests. Do you keep the bottom totally open in the cold winter months as well? I heard you say you tarp the sides but curious about the bottom for draft

    • @MtnDru
      @MtnDru Місяць тому

      Just watched your winterize the coop video! Hay bailes under the nest box to reduce drafts. Now if you could figure out a way to prevent the eggs and water from freezing if you’re out of town for some reason

    • @easyworkacres
      @easyworkacres Місяць тому

      Thanks, this whole set up has done pretty well for us! In the winter time I buy hay bales and stack them up around the base of the coop and it helps a ton in holding in heat in the coop and blocking out wind. I move the coop a little less frequently in the winter time since it’s a bigger job with the hay bales but they do great. We are adding additional fencing so to give them more space so that should really help this winter too with them not being moved as much.

    • @easyworkacres
      @easyworkacres Місяць тому

      You can see in the the beginning of this video as well a plastic wrap I build around their water system that acts like a greenhouse and helps keep their water from freezing. That helps keep the water about 10 degrees above whatever the air temp is so it helps until it gets down to 25 degrees or less outside.

      I never assume I’m the first at anything.😂 never even touched a chicken before 2020. And yes I’ve had to clear the connection between hose to float valve twice in the last year from random blockages. Someone said throwing some copper pipe in my barrels will help combat algae build up in general though so I’m gonna give that a try and see if it works. Thanks for watching!

    • @easyworkacres
      @easyworkacres 2 місяці тому

      I use it mostly for pullets and it’s not too high for them. You could always trim the side walls down some to what you need though. I think if you were to trim it down it’d be better to use a cheap plastic oil pan rather than this rubber pan. The rubber pan might lose some of its rigidness ones the sidewalls are cut.

      It works great but make sure you use screws not nails or the pigs will pry pieces off of it. AND T post it to the ground. Learned that lesson the hard way.😂 With 6 pigs it would average about 42lbs per day (7ish lbs of feed per pig per day). I could fit about 7- 50lbs bags in it and at the end of the week it would still have roughly about 1 bag left in it.

    🎉A white bantam roo showed up one day. We kept him in with our bantam cochins and silkys. I saw his spurs growing long and curved upwards. We raised pastured pigs and had a low strand of hot wire just 6" above the ground to keep pigs from rooting under the fence. One day I came home from work to find him laid out on the ground with his huge curved spur hooked IN THE HOT WIRE STRAND! Quickly I ran to shut off the juice and un hooked the little guy, expecting him to be dead. HE WASN'T! His spur fell cleanly off and never grew back. I kept his other spur cut short. We had him 12 more years 😂

    Can you make a waterproof version with a removable lid so you can remove it to feed them maybe by drilling a hole through the middle of the bottom and put a thin metal rod from the bottom up and securing it to the bottom with a nut and put cover on that is held on by the metal rod with two more nuts so that when you need to feed them, you can remove the top nut and remove the cover for the feed and then slide the lid back on the thin metal rod and put the top back on and protect it from rain, snow, sleet, and hail. My chickens are so expensive just because their food gets rained on and then it gets ruined and Texas has been getting a lot of rain the other day it rained and ruined like a third of a bag full of feed it’s only probably $15 worth, but it adds up when it’s raining every day.

      Actually doesn’t need to be cleaned all that often. It’s worked great for us for a long time now. We’ve tried poultry nipples but they don’t tend to hold up well with 150 hens messing with them all day everyday, and on a mobile coop that we pull all over the farm the small hardware gets shaken up and banged around a lot.
