Nice video. l avoid to much clicking
Looks like a bad game design to me. Why cant I watch the cut scene with my friends
Yeah. Why they did it is a mystery to all. My guess is a technical limitation of some sort, but seeing as other games do it without issue, I don’t understand how.
@@SneakyEcho In MH wilds its confusing aswell, we tried beta and had to destroy the party everytime someone else wanted to join
@@1kulik myself and my friends didn’t have that issue, at least. We did think that the world link not allowing anyone to start a quest for the party is a really poor decision though. Hopefully that was just for the beta, because it’s yet another poor decision denying seamless multiplayer yet again
Wish I could get a refund cause this makes the game unplayable in co-op for two first-timers. We're not gonna go through watching cutscenes solo and then quit just to join together.
The onboarding is already hard enough, so I understand that it could be the last straw. If you find the friend that dislikes the quitting most, they can just be the dedicated host. Then only one of the newbies needs to do the quitting! 😂
5 years on and the co-op is sadly still not functioning, which is truly sad as the game feels amazing to play, especially with friends. They sadly failed completely when it comes to multiplayer. Really hoping that Wilds won't be this bad to play with friends.
There must have been a fundamental flaw for them to have not patched the issue originally? That being said, once you get in the swing of things, this works well enough. Only one of you needs to quit the mission after seeing the cutscene. Then you can join the other person!
Also, from seeing how Wilds works in the previews, looks like this won’t be an issue.
@@SneakyEcho I really am hoping so, as i absolutely love Monster Hunter and my wife just started playing it and she fell in love as well. The jank will be dealt with but it does sour the experience a bit, especially for brand new players.
Fantastic video! I bought this game on sale and played for like 20 minutes and said "aw hell no, this game seems like more work than it does fun." And because of this video I now know that my initial thought was completely correct. HOWEVER... I now know the basics and can jump in if I ever decide to do so again. This is all based on personal preference, of course. But again, thank you for an easy to understand introduction to the world of Gloomhaven. 👍
@@Robadobb289 I fully intended to play it despite playing on tabletop and I never got around to it. It’s a very solid turn-based strategy game, but it doesn’t hold any punches.
My exact thoughts. to much clicking
one reason why mh rise is better
@@arvinsutedja certainly easier to get into multi! Haha
Years later my son has gotten into the game and he hates it because i canr just come in and help him from the start. Capcom really dropped the ball on this one.
@@Redrum1892 they did. Rise does it like the classic MHs which is better. It looks like Wilds will be better too
Hell yeah in 2024
How come 6 years later and they still haven’t changed this 😭 what an absolute joke
I think all that we can hope for is that Wilds is better 😂
200 subs
Hooray! I wish I still had time to make more stuff. Maybe one day!
Literally none of the other Monster Hunter games have this stupid problem. Cutscenes didn't even stop multiplayer from working. This game is really good but playing multiplayer is just such an enormous pain, and it's part of why 4 Ultimate is still peak Monster Hunter.
Generations felt like a real celebration of the series. It was a high point for me, with so many Monsters. I know this video focuses on the multiplayer, but something that I miss from the other Monster Hunters are Monsters that don’t fit the moulds so cleanly, like Najarala, Nerscylla and even the Seltas / Queen
Single-handedly ruined the game for most people
It’s not great, that’s for sure!
@@SneakyEchothat a bit late😩😩💦💦💦💦(sorry couldn’t find the 😭 emoji)

It took so long to find a video with the actual progress explained. Thank you!
Yeah, shame the video isn’t easier to find, but I’m just small fry! Other commenters were telling me this doesn’t work anymore, but I hope that it does!
this doesnt work anymore
why not? What happens now? I'd be very surprised if they changed it this late in the game.
@@FastNCurious17can you explain what happens now? I don’t have friends that play anymore to test
the exhaustion mechanic seems to be the most dangerous villian in the game. am i wrong?
Yup! There’s guide someone made about how burning cards early affects your total time to live, and it can cut your life significantly. Even without burning cards it can be difficult to survive an entire mission if they’re long. Stamina potions are your friend.
More than 5 years since the game was released, I discovered that this is still a problem. We just started playing MH World the other day since it became 50% off on steam only to find out that you can't really play multiplayer that easily with story missions. Why can't they just let the players hop in the quest altogether if they all have the same available quest and just play cutscenes for everyone when it does play for one player?
I don’t think they ever considered it a bug. It’s an inconvenience, and Rise handles it better, but when you get used to it, it’s pretty quick to overcome
As an example of Spy Fiction would anyone say that Sigma Theory's story is a good example of the genre?
I don’t remember it well, but I’d probably say that it’s not?
@@SneakyEcho Doesn't stack up to James Bond and Mission: Impossible and is more of the Fast and the Furious variety of Spy Thrillers eh?
Good review - nice work.
Thank you! I appreciate it!
Really enjoyed watching the video! I went ahead and purchased the game on Steam earlier today and I'll be playing it here soon. :) I'll be sure to report back if I run into any problems!
Brilliant explanations that seem to be lacking in many of the other "beginner guides". This helped me TONS. Thank you!
Thanks for the kind words!
Brilliant video. I was struggle to find out how exactly damage modifiers work in this game. On side note - I really dislike this mechanic. IMO i think add unnecessary complexity RNG element to one very complex and difficult to learn game. Thanks for the great video. 👍
As you level up your characters you can stack the damage modifier deck in your favour and it makes for some decent character growth. There is an option somewhere to change the null and the x2 into a -3 and +3 respectively (I think?).
I guess I missed something I don't understand how movement works and I just burn cards constantly idk how to not do that I mean movement should just be a thing you can do
Hey, useful sections of my video to rewatch might be 2:03 which explains the breakdown of a card, and then 7:13 which explains taking a turn, how to move and and how to avoid burning cards. If you’ve not engaged with this mechanic before it can be a bit confusing at first. You do get a default move on every card “for free”, but moves being treated as card actions allow for your character to do bigger moves or add abilities to the move, which gives you a lot of freedom when you understand the mechanic.
@@SneakyEcho thank you for breaking it down a bit just got Gloomheaven and I love it just trying to understand it now 😂
You lost me at modifiers. 😵💫

Thanks David!
thank you for making this high level explanation, i wanted to explain the game to a friend and this one is as you put out to make it: its short but explains how combat works well without getting lost in details
Thank you! I was really mindful that it’s a lot to get through, so I needed to keep it moving
So, essentially it's a truncated version of Baldur's Gate... A mediocre game with an excellent tutorial.
Possibly? I’ve never played Baldur’s Gate!
Very good video! I was the intended recipient, not having played the board game and had my eyes on the digital. Now I know I'm too stupid for this game. Thanks! Saved me some money!!
Happy to help! It's certainly not for everyone.
I started nodding off while completing the tutorial in game, so I thought I would find a youtube video to watch instead. Here I am watching yours and I'm still nodding off! maybe this game is not for me.... or maybe I just need a nap. Zzzz.... lol. thanks for the great, simplified tutorial. Cheers
You're welcome! Learning a complicated game's rules will always be a little dry - even if people try to make it entertaining. The game itself is fun to play if you can push through!
This is a very helpful introduction to Gloomhaven. The pacing is excellent. Thanks for posting this video.
Thanks for the kind words!
I am impressed but this review. Perfectly structured, covering all aspects of the game and at the same time being as short as possible. Clear slow voice, great review! Thanks!
Thanks for the kind words. These days I'm stretched very thin with other responsibilities, but these comments make my day and really make me want to get creating again!
thanks!!
My friend from church shared this game with me and I had to look into it knowing nothing of this game. Thank you for the concise and engaging video!
Thanks very much!
Many thanks mate!
Thank you!
What an immensely helpful guide!
Thank you! Very clear and detailed!
I appreciate the feedback!
Is this maybe a little easier than Monster Train? MY just has too many icons, too much to read every turn, lots of keywords to remember/understand which seem hard to interpret until you actuallly experiment with it. Too many times I feel like I dont know what the different effects are doing. This game however also looks interesting but is it any simpler than MT? I the placement thing reminds me of Adv Wars in a dungeon.
DungeonTop has changed somewhat since I played last, so I'm not sure how it fares now. It's something I've been meaning to go back to, to see how it shaped up. It does have less going on than Monster Train, and it certainly was easier when I played it.
Love the humor in your review. Especially the spouse part. Good job
Hey, thanks so much! I'm really sad that I don't have the mental energy to make videos at the moment, but comments like this make me feel great about it.
@@SneakyEcho no worries on new reviews. I'd rather have humor that feel genuine and fresh, rather than one that's forced. Take care of yourself, buddy. All the best to whatever you're facing at the moment.
thx my man I really needed this cuz I had a hard time playing with my friends cuz of thid
You’re very welcome! If you enjoy it and want to get into other Monster Hunter games, I’ll let you know that all the others (I mean literally all of them) have much easier to join multiplayer. MHW is the only MH title that has ever done this!
@@SneakyEcho sorry for the late reply I got the master edition for both iceborne and the full game and it is really run and intense
@@fool3r no stress! I absolutely love MH games. I’ve only been around them for 3 or so releases now but love that gameplay loop!

thx my man
I hope you can answer this, so I've just done all the assignments and my friend is gunna start playing tomorrow, so basically in this case would he only need to post the new assignment, do the cutscene, fire the sos flare then I can join him without him returning from quest? Also how would I join him, could I do it through steam?
I’ve done this a few times. When you play with a friend, you’ll join the same online lobby (before even starting a hunt). When your friend hosts the hunt, they can host it for more than one person. When the cutscene has ended, their game will be joinable from the quest counter as normal, without even sending the SOS flare. It might be confusing at first, but it’s very straight-forward once you get used to it!
So if I wanted to play the campaign with a friend' we'd have to go through this process for every mission, one by one?
It’s every time there’s a cutscene in a mission, so yeah, most story missions require you to do this process the first time you play them. It’s a little tedious, but usually only takes a minute or two and then you can play for 15 mins to half an hour before the next time. There are also non-story missions which oftentimes you will want to play that don’t require you to do this.
It has been almost 3 years on this video and they didn't fix it yet xD btw thanks for the tutorial
I don’t think they’ll ever fix it. Hopefully future titles don’t have these issues though!
hey im about to get the game, can random people join my quest?if so how? :) i dont have friends that play this game with
@@Whitey23 Before joining a mission you will join a lobby. By default the game tries to get you into a lobby with multiple players. When hosting a quest, anyone in the lobby can join in, unless you set a password. If you want to increase the chance of people joining you, you can send out an SOS Flare which is like a global request to have people join your game (which allows people out of your lobby to join). Not sure how many people are playing World or how many people will jump into early game quests, but it is theoretically easy to play with random players. You can also join them if you have are up to the mission by searching for flares or just joining games from your lobby.
Acquired this through twitch prime. It's a cool little game. Thanks for the review!
I'm currently having an issue with joining my friend in playing We're both still starting out and doing the story side by side, doing the same missions and such, i remember a while ago before i uninstalled i was able to do quests with him Now I can't because "I haven't progressed far enough into the story." We're on the same mission. I love this game even though I'm new to the series, it's a thrill hunting, I just wish the co-op was less convoluted
I think the error message about not progressing far enough is what you get if you haven’t seen the cutscene yourself. (It’s been a while so I’m not sure on this!). If it’s still not working for you, try going into the mission again solo to view the cutscene, and see if that helps. If I recall correctly, there’s also one particular mission that has a cutscene after a hunt. It’s something to do with setting up a forward camp in the forest? And yes! It’s such a shame they did this. MH World is by far the worst co-op joining experience a MH game has ever had. Hopefully they learnt their lesson with this one and future titles won’t have the same issue.
@@SneakyEcho i appreciate the advice! I'll definitely try it out, I don't usually enjoy many games solo, and my friends are showing interest in it again (it's the reason I reinstalled in fact), So you can imagine how bummed we were when the co-op wasn't exactly working well Well thank you again! I hope you have a wonderful day!
@@proximitychan8816 yes! Hopefully once this mission is over you’ll be able to continue on as normal. It’s a pain to do, but hunting monsters with friends is worth the hassle! You have a great day too!
what if you both have not seen the cutscenes?
You aren't able to join the quest if you haven't seen the cutscene. As such, you need your own progress to match (or exceed) your co-op partner. Start the quest separately, view the cutscene, and then you can join each other.
@@SneakyEcho Damn it. I wanted to start the game together with my friend... Oh well, I guess one of us has to be ahead of the other. Thank you for the answer though!!
@@peruperu-jj8zs when I played through with my friends, we were at the same progress. When doing a new story mission, just start it separately, view the cutscene (normally at the start of a fight), then you can quit the level, and play together. You won’t need to fight by yourself in any missions. (Or maybe just one mission, if I remember correctly). It’s a pain, but it doesn’t stop you playing together and staying at the same place.
@@SneakyEcho thank you. I’ll try. What if one of us has finished the quest already. Can I join a quest that I have already finished?? I was really surprised to notice I can’t go on a assigned quests that I’ve already finished(this was never the case in previous games)
@@peruperu-jj8zs you can’t host an assignment you’ve already done, but you can join someone else who’s doing one you’ve already done, so that’s okay!
when i play with a friend will both of us get the progress in the story or do we have to do the same mission twice?
You’ll both get progress!
@@SneakyEcho Thank you
This is an excellent video for people totally new to Gloomhaven. It concisely shows how the game is played without having to suffer through someone stumbling through a Let's Play, reading every text box, etc... This approach for an introductory video is what I like. Nice Job!
Thanks very much, glad it was helpful!
Agreed, perfect video!
I loved that bit with your spouse she is a keeper ^^
Thanks very much! She sure is!
Does this method work with every quest and is it still working ?
Any quest with cutscenes. It's not a bug, so it will never stop working, thankfully! Shame it isn't easier. If the quest doesn't have a cutscene you can all just join together without fuss!
@@SneakyEcho how do we know if the quest has a cutscene or not?
@@eekbal2018 one of you can host the mission, then the other player can try to join. If there’s no cutscene, you’ll be able to join. From memory the maximum player count when you host the quest will also limit itself to 1 until after the cutscene, but I don’t remember 100%, sorry. It’s pretty safe to assume that all story missions have cutscenes.
@@SneakyEcho aight thx for the info!!!
