[REVIEW] Tern Verge x11 - year and a half later
It's been an year and a half since I bought myself Tern Verge x11.
Many people have been asking me questions about the bike and I decided to record another review. With this video I share my experience with the bike. I talk about how it rides and how it feels riding such a bike. Also, I mention some things that I consider issue with it. They are not technical difficulties by any means, just features that inflate the price and add no real value to the bike.Enjoy! :)

University College Cork and George Boole | Folding Bike Adventures

University College Cork is a Hogwarts like campus home to more than a hundred different societies. Here, one hundred and seventy years ago, a man with no education was appointed the First Professor of Mathematics. From a very young age, he had to work to support the family. Aside from his first lessons in mathematics by his father, and a few years at local schools, George was a self-taught prod...

Hey yo, Tankforce, Tankman is back, and it's so nice to feel your good vibes. With all the noise reduction tricks I couldn't make it bearable, so I am re-recording it, from here. In this episode, I will show you one of Ireland's best-hidden attractions. The family-owned Toy Soldier Factory. It houses a Diorama totalling 15,000 hand-cast and hand-painted Soldiers by Andre Rudolph from Germany. I...
[REVIEW] Tern's £2,400 Verge x11 | Folding Bike Adventures
Переглядів 12 тис.5 років тому
In this video, I will do a hands-on review of Tern's high-end Verge x11. I will share with you what I like, what I don't like, and what I consider lazy engineering because it surely is design flaws. First things first, what do I know about this bike? I just spent two weeks cycling across Ireland with the Verge x11. The overly simplified map of my trip, with a whole lot of details skipped, looks...

Hey yo Tank force, Tankman is back with another video. I travel on a folding bike Tern Verge x11, and I create videos to share my adventures with you. Today we are going to the most beautiful landscape scenery I have ever seen. Due to its scenery, the Gap of Dunloe is one of the most popular destinations in Ireland. Twenty-five thousand years ago, during Ireland's last ice age, a glacier cut th...

TERN FOLDING BIKE TOURING - Cork to Cobh (trailer) | Folding Bike Adventures
Переглядів 1,6 тис.5 років тому
Recently I decided to explore Ireland with a bicycle. I have done enough research and decided that the Folding bike will be best for my needs. I have chosen a Tern Link D16 folding bike for my adventures and decided to start a youtube channel so that I can share with you my experience and answer the question "can one tour on a folding bike?" This video is a teaser for my trip from Cork to Cobh.
Bought same bike from a friend today. 2nd hnd For 800$. 💨 bike!
Good news, Brompton just released the same bike called G-line :)
Sorry I can't quite hear the last part, replace tire with what kind? I'm currently using Tannus airless tires on my X11 but doesn't seem to roll well compared to my Verge X20 and even Link D8 (Even after tune up from Tern bike shop)
I love the Tern X11. I test rode one a few weeks ago. I'd love for Tern to make a high-end super lightweight Titanium X11. No cheap aluminum. No cheap plastic. Tern has to come up with an answer to the Brompton T-Line.
This is a good video mate. Very informative
4 years later, is the Tern Verge X11 still the best and fastest folding bike? Thank you.
Great review! Where do you buy tires for 451 wheels?
The Tern Verge X11 is the greatest folding bike of ALLTIME period.
Better than the Brompton T-Line? Better than the Helix Ultralight?
Off road? Wow
The best
What is the refund policy?
It's like you beating up the bike and bike says 'Give me more'
Thank you very much (i mean it) for the super honest and in depth review, didn't expect to see anyone film it under off road settings. Most extreme review of this road folder out there for sure ^^ I live in France and own a D9, was wondering if i should sell it and maybe get this one instead (for weight and transmission issues mainly), but yeah maybe too much carbon on that model even though you proved it's strong off road. Guess i'll just upgrade my D9 with better components in the long term...
Is there a big performance difference between the P10 and the X11 versions?
I have the same question as I am on the fence between P10 ($1600) and X11 ($2700). What are the most significant differences?
3lbs of weight and a whole lot of top end components. The frame is the same. What makes the X11 more efficient and faster is the pro X wheel set and hollow tech carbon crankset. Which is more EFFICIENT Than the FSA crankset with square taper on the P10. I've ridden both over the same 5 mile course. And my average speed, top speed and time on the X11 was better. By nearly 2 minutes. The X11 climbs hills like a boss.
Nice, beautiful bike. How’s doing? I just bought the s8i and waiting the delivery. Cost me even the same this costed to you. You should try the Schwalbe Marathon Plus, great tires and for the tracks you are running seems to fit better that the ones. Great video, thanks.
Porque engañan en las especificaciones de esta bicicleta dice que tiene 10 kilos y es pura mentira porque está pesa 11,2 kilos
Very good review! Anyway the bike is crazy expensive, why not getting the Eclipse X22 that costs pretty much the same and has 26 inches wheels?
Currently I’m riding tern link D8 . Thinking to upgrade to tern verge x10
I got the X20 it's Terns masterpiece. The best folder ever made.
I’ve changed my mind after watching this video .
Older version.
Добрый день. Я так понял лучше купить s8i ?
Thanks for your Review. Helped me a Lot. I wanted the X11 but got the Verge P10 for daily commuting 10 km. The reason is, it's cheaper to maintain. But it's a nice bike and really fast on streets.
Waiting for the P10,,, How do you like it in general? Are the disc brakes too sensitive? How light/heavey/easy it to transport ?
Awesome video man! I'm torn between this one and the slightly larger Eclipse x22. What would be your take?
Get the X11 all day. It blows people away because its so fast and yet small. And this baby climbs hills like they are nothing. There's a hill where I live that used to kill me on my cheap folder. The X11 floats up it.
@@fender1000100 Hi from UK, I noticed your comments on the x11 and x20 in other videos, may I ask for your advice on whether you would recommend the x11 or a secondhand x20?
Thank you so much for a great review and i'm also inspired by your trail riding on this bike :-) If I wanted more 'offroad-ish' tires, what would you recommend? You said a name at the very end, but I can't make it out. Also, any 'tuning' or maintenance tips now that you've owned the bike for well over a year. Thanks again!
Great review, now I can stop dreaming about upgrading from my Link D8 which I have been totally happy with.
I could sense honesty in your reviews. Thank u for such useful guidance. God bless u
Thank you for an amazing review! I'm a big fan of folding bikes and I've been riding a Dahon Hemingway D8 for the past two years. Although I'd love to have a Tern X11, I'm more than satisfied with my bike and its entry level components, which I can upgrade if I need to, so I agree with you regarding some "overkill" components. Well, any bike is a frame and if it's a good one, you can make whatever you want from it :) The only upgrade I'm planning is switching to 451 wheel set and disk brakes, my rim brakes are not so reliable in wet/dusty conditions.
Instablaster...
Mine doesn't fall over. Maybe because it's the 2021 version?
I have the x10 and is way sexier than this one. Bc of my 50t chainring, I can keep up with most regular sized bikes, it’s fast. And pretty comfortable while bile 20 miles multiple days.
Nothing is sexier than a silver X11. I have people stopping me on a daily to ask me wtf is this. And when you move 28mph on a folder. Roadies start paying you respect.
So the wheelset still performed and is durable for off road?
How can one get this bike in Australia?
£2,600
Ordered chunkier tyres and mudguards for mine. Thanks for the review.
You'll enjoy it a lot. Also, the fatter tires will provide you with a somewhat more comfortable ride. and excellent choice. Happy cycling!
Apparently it's sold without pedals, so what about the quick release pedals I see on reviews? Where are they from? Thanks for your review.
Hey, sorry for the delay. Yes, they are sold without pedals and I chose the "MKS Unisex's Compact EZY Removable City Pedals". They are somewhat pricey (~$120) but I'm so very happy with them. The discomfort of the high price is long forgotten, but I still enjoy their quality. Amazing pedals.
@@foldingbikeadventures1125 I've ordered a pair.
What's the difference between this bike and the tern verge x11 2021.
Thank you! This might be my next bike
Would be a great choice. Let me know once you decide. I'd love to hear what are your first impressions on the bike! :)
I also went for Tern Verge N8. That was the only one available locally in a premium category. All the criticism of X11 is actually answered by this N8. Gear range on cassette is 11-32 instead of an extra wide 10-42 but shifting is smooth and doesn't need a chain guide. I however wished the gear range was 11-36 9 speed as I think that would provide an extra low range to climb really steep slopes. N8 stock tyres are bald Schwalbe Kojak 35-406 and while I have done some gravel riding on it, your video provides encouragement to be more adventurous. I have done 100 km group rides and it was far more comfortable than I originally imagined. Thanks for your excellent video.
I have the N8 too it's PERFECTION. Especially for the money. You can change out the rear cassette for an 11 to 36 tooth one very easily. I did this and its now the perfect bike for less than an X11 or P10. Can hit 25mph. And pretty comfortable. The ugrades I made on it. We're biologic hand grips a litepro 54 tooth crankset. And a shimano 11--36 8 speed rear cassette. And Schwalbe durano 1.1 racegaurd tires. And a carbon seatpost and Ergon GMC gel saddle. And it's perfect. It shifts. And climbs hills like a dream. At a new weight of 22.9lbs.
Convert it to drop bar
This was an amazing video! I used it as a reference to pick my Verge N8 :) the x11 was waaaay over my budget. Also the creaking information was super helpful!! I was scared when my bike was creaking after a week, but cleaning + grease fixed it :) Cheers man
So happy to hear that this was useful. How's the N8? Are you enjoying it? :)
Pretty happy with it so far, was skeptical at first considering my road conditions (Potholes, bumps, grave), but this bike has turned out to be pretty solid! Likes: - Cheap spares (Claris gears, v brakes etc) - Comfortable geometry, feels like a hybrid bike - Light weight (11.5kg) compared to the competition - Enough gearing for city use even though it's a 1x8 Dislikes: - Rim replacement might be costly in the future? Not aware about the prices - The creaking from the frame every now and then drives me mad. Can fix it with your suggestion though (Cloth & grease) - Stability when folded is surely not good
@@nawaal4452 The GAMECHANGER for the N8 is change out the wheel set for a litepro 451set. And the crankset for a litepro 58 tooth set. Run Schwalbe durano 1.1 inch racegaurd tyres. Now you Have a bike on par with the P10 without the overkill of the hydraulic breaks. And cheaper. Your top end speed will rise by 2 to 4 miles an hour. Regarding any creaking in the frame and folding joints. Nothing beats olive oil. I've used it for years on all my bikes. And the creaking will cease permanently.
Where did you get this bike?
Bought it from England. They are quite difficult to find in Europe.
How much it costo?
Birdy dude...i have the Birdy....its perfect all around..but not soo sexy like the X11

You could buy thr p10
i have the tern eclipse x22 with the 26in wheels and love it but when it breaks down i might get this one, it looks more compact to carry on the train/bus but has same performance as my tern x22 👌
I'm quite happy with how compact this bike is. How's the x22 been so far?
Great reviews. I'm split between between getting the Verge X11 or the S8i. Although I don't commute, the S8i would seem better for riding off road trails especially with the Scwalbe big apple tyres. It also offers extras like lights, rack and fenders as part of the package and priced about £500 less than the x11. However I love the aesthetics of the x11 and by changing the tyres I could still ride off road trails mixed with road (typically country lanes). What do you think?
While I do that, I'd like to discourage you. Unless you have a very strong body you'll start feeling pain in your wrists, ankles, and lower back. For what you described above, just a regular cross country bike will do grand. However, if you want it to be a folding bike, Link or S8i would be acceptable options, their tires are fat. Let me know once you choose something. :)
Very good bike
I liked your video however I live in Cornwall in the UK with extremely steep climbs and although I cannot change the rear cassette I'm changing to a 50t front chainring as I've been stuck in first and also had to get off and walk a few times also I'll not miss the top 2 or 3 gears as flat out speed is not my thing and the 50t should help me use them more. Having done a few trails now I'm going to change my tyres to kenda small block 8 in 37mm which will be better to protect the wheels and give me better grip in light mud hardpack grass etc with a little better comfort for all day trails and coast paths. I also have a cane creek LT suspension seat post on my bike which has made a massive difference recommend Cheers Matthew
Thanks for sharing, Matthew. Let us know how the 50t chain ring feels once you've got enough experience. Happy riding! :)
I only have the D9. Great bike
The D9 is a great bike, indeed. What you love most about it?
@@foldingbikeadventures1125 solid ride and awesome looks. Cheers!
What do you do for a living? Youre crazy for using that beauty for offroads. Lol
I'm an English teacher. Indeed, I'm nut for riding it off road but the bike is robust. After all that beating it's still sound.
