This is impeccable historical information. I wonder if our President’s have this in mind when they are in the office. This man single handedly helped set the guidelines to American independence.

Seems I remember America's position on slavery a bit different. Thomas Jefferson's 1st draft of The Declaration of Independence stated as as much. Sure the Narrative goes against this, but Intelligent people realized that slavery...practiced since time immortal in all nations...Yes, even Africa...was immoral and was at an end in enlightened nations. Although it existed in the original Biblical texts. The United States of America should be praised rather than ridiculed for bringing about the end of this practice that was seeded in the Americas by European Nations and practiced by indigenous peoples throughout history. An end that had taken deep root nearly four hundreds before The United States of America 's recognition as a Sovereign Nation by the powers controlling the globe and concluding approximately a mere seventy years later. That, my friends, is the true story of how significant the birth of this Nation is in regards to the enslavement of our fellow man in addition to establishing the precedent of individual human rights not bound or determined by an other entity. Make today Your Independence Day and keep it always that no person, however endowed, shall usurp the basic rights of another under any circumstance!

America needs another Thomas Paine right now, a 2nd “Common Sense”….2nd Revolution. I believe the states would be better independent rather than being “United” America has become a New England

Thomas Paine was an atheist but he makes lots of references to god because he knows that will help persuade many people.

This is a really helpful video, but can we let the fact sink in that at 4:39 the painting literally has the representatives of the colonies making the "heil hitler" motion...? Any explanation would be appreciated 😬

I don't agree with Paine at all. His radicalism helped create what we have today, and America is in sad shape. He encouraged this betrayal, and not only that, they didn't want to pay their taxes to help pay back the expense the Britain owed now that they went to war and helped to protect these Revolutionaries from Indians and war...they were totally ungrateful, but took advantage of Britain by backing out and going on their own declaring not to help pay back the protection that good Britain gave to them. That is total disgusting. These revolutionairs were crude and it is written over and over again, even the so many of the Revolutionaries did not want to be Indepent who came here to this country.

No, you should listen to James Chalmers, in his response to Thomas Paine and his "Common Sense"; James response is found in "Plain Truth", and he rebukes Paine, by saying what he wrote was invalid and barberic.

I just bought the book. I am reading it now. 8/1/2022 This book should be required reading in the American schools. It is as advertised. Common Sense, with a background of governments around the world at the time. I highly recommend buying the book, reading it and encourage your friends to get a copy too. We live in troubled times right now. Thomas Paine reminds me why I Love America and the Liberty she provides her citizens.

Disgraceful. You conveniently left out the frequent murderous raids on settlers by natives in what was a mostly empty wilderness. The savage natives were proud of such murder and sought the genocide of the settlers such was their savage version of "ethics" . Beacon's rebellion was motivated by a desire for security. Twelve more settlers were murdered when they went to make their appeal for help. The truth means nothing to you.

Hi. I don't mean to criticize, but I think there's a historical inaccuracy in your video! The First Continental Congress actually gathered in 1774. The Second Continental Congress gathered in May of 1775, and that's when George Washington was appointed commander in chief of the Continental Army. I just wanted to point that out.

Thank you for the video! Quick question about 0:25: I was under the impression that the First Continental Congress had met in 1774 in response to the Intolerable Acts, and that the 2nd Continental Congress had met in 1775 when they appointed George Washington to command the Continental Army. Do I have that wrong?
