I often mention "DIRECTIONAL STITCHING" in my Facebook posts. Directional stitching is what creates a three dimensional effect in your embroidery... the light catches the sweep of the stitches, refracts back and so enhances the shine of the silk, bringing your subject to life. This is a beautiful, simple butterfly, worked mainly in white on black, so it is a perfect subject to show this effect.
