Hi Rodney👍🌵. Just subscribed! Very nice project 😊
Hi Rodney, nice build and she flies beautiful. I have the blue one waiting to get started, so really glad to see your results. I have two observations: your motor could use more rpm. I think this low kv performs better on 8s and almost 2000 extra rpm would make a big difference in climbs. Or, change the motor to a 6s with higher kv, 400-450. Also, if you make that wooden motormount. Try to keep it low, and cut the top of the firewall so you can slide the batteries all up front, over the box or maybe even above the motor. The motorbox (side to side), can be used to strengthen the side walls of the fuselage. Moving the batteries forward that much would cut ballast weight too. Hope to see a follow up video! Good luck!
You’re on to it. Remove the music your comments are very sufficient for the progress shown. This is a very important but frustrating part of the rebuild and is immensely interesting. You are doing great. Cheers from NEW ZEALAND.
Obviously you follow Mike Patey . I want to see the stearman fly. Cheers from New Zealand.
@@markcorboy8528 I learned a lot from Mike Patey
Thanks for the build and flight video. I saw this plane on motion rc and was going to get it but they sold out fast. I'll try when they get more in.
Hi from the UK Waiting for the new stock. Camo pattern does not match centre section?? Enjoyed your video👍🙂
It's a pretty craft!!! nice share sir
Thankyou. Nice work. Looking forward to the Stearman follow up
Thank You! I tried to get this one but they had sold out. Been looking for either a build or maiden video on this plane and I find both in one stop. I appreciate your wrap up at the end, I was wondering what battery and prop you ended up with. It didn't seem like the 6s was giving you much, especially if you were at full throttle most of the flight. And 12s would be overkill. Just looking at it, 8s might be the best option even if I have to add weight. Anyway, I enjoyed your video and will subscribe so I can watch the Stearman build.
@Noncenx the plane flew scale on 6s it had enough power to climb out ok. Straight and level it cruised at just over half throttle. Speed controller and motor were only slightly warm 4 minute flight used about 10 percent of the battery
Nice but electric
Saw the thumbnail for a second thought, and thought it was a real plane flying without a pilot
Nice built and a beautiful airplane Sir!
Nice! I gust got the new one. Thinking electric
I did electric because I didn't want have to mess with running the exhaust of a gas engine.
@@RodneyFlysRc I totally feel you. My Power 60 400KV can swing the smallest XOAR Axial 18x6 prop. Balsa USA sells a nice 8mm scale spinner nut too.
1 that is one hell of a engine 2 ya a mad man great vid thanks 👍👍👍👍
Great vid mate ,i like the way you just went for the 1 aileron will be watching for more thanks thanks, Nat from Ireland 👍🤙🤙
Very nice video, Rodney.
Absolutely gorgeous sound
Great vid and beautiful engine Rodney but a word of caution. I used to clamp my engine stand to the base like you do until I had a Magnum 91-4cycle broke one of the clamps and wound up halfway across my yard. I was ok and so was the engine. Since then, the stand is firmly bolted down. Takes a few extra minutes but no more heart attacks.
Yup, they can get loose. I had a Fox .25 do that back in the late seventies.
FRSKY is the best! You get a turbine telemetry sensor from Zavionix? I have one for Kingtech and Xicoy
looks good
Cool your soldered joints by putting them in the toilet! Errr… remember to flush first! 😂👍 The Stearman is looking magnificent! 100 thumbs up!
I wouldn't trust the floor being level just a thought measure down from the joists they should be level .that's gonna be a great flyer lookn good
I too have the same plane balsa USA maybe your video will help me and get working on it Good luck hope to see you get it flying
Hi Rod. Gonna be great in the PT-17 Stearman🤠👍🛩️🇿🇦
Coffee is very important in the shop. Gives you time to think and contemplate. 😊
Yes five turn one for each compression cycle to each cylinder to make sure you dont have hydro lock That radial sound is music to my ears.
Thank you for your video. PT-17 is a beautiful thing. Hope to see the follow up vids. I'm building a 1/5 scale right now myself it will have a FG-60R3 Saito engine. ❤❤❤
Looking forward to the progress of this bird, love the scale. 👍🏻
Subscribed. Great work! I want to build this kit some day
I am also watching an Australian chap who is building a full-size replica of a Sopwith Camel. I’ll run that story of the 2 deg of lower plane incidence by him.
I've loved the stearman since I was a kid. I got one decades ago that was damaged (much smaller, 65" wing) and I've never gotten it rebuilt. I don't have a place to fly at the moment. Perhaps I'll have to get it out of storage and make it my winter project. Even if I don't find a field and fly her, I'd love to have it hanging from the ceiling in my office!
Hey Rodney. Just found your channel. It's Kevin B from NY. Haven't seen you since Chenango Br. show yrs. ago. Glad to see your doing well. Keep up the good work.
@dash5n Hey Kevin hope all is well We're doing well here in NC. We certainly miss all our flying buddies up north. Maybe we'll bump into each other at an event somewhere best wishes to you.
Hey Rodney. Doing OK. Still plugging along. Good luck with your project. I've got a bunch of Warbird projects I hope to complete. Take care
What I see is a grand looking frame for a fine plane when you're done.😁.... Love to hang it on MY Hanger wall.
I'm a new subscriber to your site. I am impressed with your honesty and your patience...It's good to find a person who is confident in his self and his desires...
Nice work, one note: never, ever drink anything on camera while recording.
AND Never pick your nose
Hi Rodney, That radial sounded great when there was no background music. The music became annoying about 5 minutes into the video. Maybe consider having no background music in future videos.
Dad went to school and got his aeronautical engineering degree. His explanation, that two degrees of positive incidence cause the bottom wing to stall first. Thus creates a softer, more positive stall as the top wing keeps flying longer.
@jamesberwick2210 yes and the video I watched said that when the bottom wing stalls you can feel it through the control stick
With both wings at zero, probably a handful in a stall.
Very nice build from a new subscriber! My last build was a BUSA 1/3 fly baby biplane. Have a ziroli stearman i wanna build. This may be what gets me going. Looking forward to the complete build. Just seen your a fellow tarheel. I live between hickory and boone!
Nothing like the sound of a radial
On the landing gear, is the scissors supposed to face forward like that or face rear? Just curious. I like building kits too. You have a nice project there. Lots of luck with it
@@kennethroe5376 it faces forward
Awesome to see you working in that plane again
Great build!! Not an easy kit to build.
I ran into this video today. Good general information with great potential, however scattered. Mr Steve lack of thought pre-planning and his deliberate intent to be in charge degraded potential of content. I believe Ben, if allowed, would have been able to deliver much useful content with organized thought process. These sorts of presentations require a bit of pre-planning and agreed upon team work in advance. Knowing Ethos and how unclear it can be requires thought planning ahead of time. Thank you
23:44 my screen that comes up right after adding a model doesn't look like that, it only has 3 choices : "no engine", "1 engine", and "no engine" again, with the middle one selected. When hit "enter" to bring up the menu, that menu only has two entries: "no engine" and "1 engine".
Thank you Rodney, Great! Can’t the radio update be done using the WiFi option like in the relatively new Spektrum series NX., where you basically connect your Spektrum Radio to home WiFi and it updates,, like mobile ioS or Android. Does the Frsky radio has a WiFi wireless connectivity feature!? Thanks
I have been out of it for a long time. I was looking at getting a new radio. I think I am more confused now than ever. Is there a way to update the firmware over WiFi.
@matthewkirk514 I don't believe so it has to be plugged into the computer to update the radio through ethos suite. This is the way almost all radio brands are now.
@@RodneyFlysRc ok confused or not I have just ordered the x20s wish me luck lol.
@@matthewkirk514 Nice Start out with one small plane get used to the programing then move on to others, If you are on facebook join the Official Frsky Ethos group there's a lot of helpful people there. facebook.com/groups/frskyethos
Thanks a lot for posting these videos. As a sailplane guy from long ago who really liked my Airtronics Vison SP transmitter for flying a Falcon 880 glider and some others, all I can say is that my new FrSky X20R transmitter combined with the Tandem SR10 dual band receiver is simply amazing. Firmware updates for the receivers OTA were straight forward. After a week of evenings setting things up and dusting off my 20+ year old Mark Levoe designed composite Super-V, and following a range check with a few hand tosses, I flew the plane for the first time 2 weeks ago using 4 flight modes. Steve's description of the stages of how you feel about the ETHOS based radio is quite true but I think much of the early user frustration is largely due to the flexibility of the radio and documentation that is very thorough on what it can do, but light on _how_ to set things up (eg. setting a receiver 'pin' position as an S.Port for telemetry). Once set up, the telemetry when using the SR10 receiver with a connected Lipo sensor made it possible always know what's going on with the model in flight and in between making the time at the field much more enjoyable. The programing possibilities of this radio seem endless.
Is it a 120” or 140”? I was unsure about the amount of carbon, I thought only the 140” came with so much carbon. Is it because it is version 2 that has more carbon?
Great model engine!😁👍🔧🛠️
