Each episode takes you to remote locations where we camp at the base of these untouched ranges and spend weeks exploring their potential. In Episode 2, we take on the Beartooth Mountains, Montana’s tallest and most rugged range, on a 7-day winter traverse. Inspired by a popular summer hiking trail, The Beaten Path, we set out to ski 46 miles of untouched terrain. Fully human-powered and self-supported, carrying everything we needed on our backs, this was an adventure into the unknown to discover big lines and incredible peaks

Each episode takes you to remote locations where we camp at the base of these untouched ranges and spend weeks exploring their potential. In Episode 1, we dive headfirst into the Big Snowy Mountains, just south of Lewistown, MT. Known neither for heavy snowfalls nor skiing, we set out ...

I love the Beartooths. I live in Red Lodge, the town where the Beartooth Highway connects from Cooke City. Beautiful country. Glad ya'll had an epic time!
Siiick film!! Huge accomplishment and great skiing!
So cool. Amazing film.
I was at East Rosebud like the week before this- so weird lol. Such a cool vid. Well done.
I really gotta go touring over there! Pretty darn close to home and I've still never skied in the Beartooths. Enjoyed the movie🤙
The northern lights after that hike must have been insane! Looks like an epic trip!! I can't imagine trying to ski down that shit with my winter pack on 😂😂 Edit- I really need to find a crazy friend to join me 😂😂 only done solo trips so far...
Thats crazy😮😮really threading the needle there
Can't imagine looking up and seeing a ski flying. Did you ever find the ski?
The title says "Almost Lost a Ski" so I think he found it.
The fact that ya'll are advertising for Fatmap with Fatmap being retired/killed by Strava...
FatMap was one of the best mapping services out there and I was stoked to be able to support them how I could. The strava merge was undeniably handled very poorly. I have personally moved on to onX Bacountry, but to each their own 🤷♂️
I have climbed every peak above 10'000 in the Beartooths such a beautiful range.
Wow!! That is incredible!! I'm assuming we are only talking named peaks?
@meaningfullylost All of the named peaks. And a lot of unnamed ones as well.
Awesome trip! Thanks for sharing 🤙
Thanks for watching!
I visited these mountains they were beautiful
They sure are!!
Doing that trip around the time of those northern lights is awesome! I’m from around that area and I gotta say I’ve never seen the northern lights that spectacular ever before. On top of those mountains must have been very special!
The northern lights on top the plateau was on of the most spectacular things I've ever seen! Definitely an unexpected cherry on top!
My hat is off to you skiing those slopes with those packs! I kept my skiing to roads with weight like that.
Thanks for watching John! The added weight was for sure no joke 😅
One of the most memorable experiences of my life has been a work trip into the big snowies. I was a stream/vegetation technician measuring habitat, and one of our sites was on the northeast end of the big snowies. Because of private property issues, we had to access from the east and hike cross country to our site. This was mid August, so hot and dry. We were told it was easy. Meanwhile in reality it was thousands of feet of vert up and down up and down, avoiding random hidden cliffs, only to end up at our canyon, which had a solid 50 foot cliff at the bottom of the slope. So we did all of these miles, all of this vert, just to not even be able to do the site. It was truly a ridiculous day.
I am curious about the dates of your adventure. When did you shoot this video? Suscribed...
Thanks for subscribing!! This trip was May 10-16 of 2024
What an awesome video, I watched every second! With production quality like this I see a future star in the world of UA-cam
Thanks for watching Derek! I appreciate the support, time will tell 🤞
That looks like a cool trip. You guys definitely put in the work for your turns. I live on the other side of that range, and I also have sat around at night planning out back country routes on google earth. It's an awesome feeling when you get to actually explore the places you've looked at for a long time, places few people go. The Absorkee Beartooth range is an amazing place
I watched the movie it was great
Thanks for checking it out bro!! And stoked you liked it 😄
Legendary!!! Way to live the dream brother 🤟🏼
Wow guys! This looks awesome. I'm decades older than yourselves, crossed a good portion of the plateau 4 yr ago in Aug, but this kind of adventure really suits my soul. This looked amazing - that night of seeing the Aurora must have been a dreemland! Those couloirs on day 6 looked like a lot of fun.
Great video as well as an awesome trip. And really cool that you did it in summer as boys together, seems like you two have it figured out!
Thank you!! It was definitely a fun trip both times around! Just following what we love!
Were those packs really only 50 lbs? Including all the stuff like water, and pads, cameras, and helmets strapped to the outside?
We never actually weighed the packs, our best guess was 45-60lbs so I just simplified it in the middle
@@meaningfullylost aha. My guess based on weighihg similar packs, would have been 60-70 lbs
😢agree with @jb8841. 50 lbs for 2-3 days, 60-70 lbs for seven days.
Experience is what you get, right after you needed it. I love your muscle and guts. Stay well men!
Haven't heard that one! I like it. Thank you for watching Daniel!
Now that was some cool skiing. Every day people with a dream and making it happen. What real ski touring is all about. Have a good one.
Thanks for watching and stoked you enjoyed! Making dreams happen one step at a time!
Love this content man - don’t stop!
Thank you Davis! More to come!
I have done several trips in the old days with no gps or other aids.
That's awesome!!
@@meaningfullylost What town are you guys from?
Both of us were born and raised just outside Livingston!
I understand your lure to ski the couloirs. but they actually aren't very good skiing linked recoveries and there's some dangerous. he can't really ski them very gracefully. love the Beartooth and thank you anyway!
Some are good and some are not so good 🤷🏼♂️ we ski as hard as the mountains let us
Buzz off clown
that looks like a blast. For your next trick the entire chuting gallery in one season!
That's a tall order!
@@meaningfullylost So far no one has achieved this feat. If you do it you can run for senate next time :)
Great effort, do you have a packing list or lighterpack link? Would be interesting to see what gear you took with you.
What an epic trip! I have been skiing, hiking and backpacking since I was 12 yrs old I will 67 in Feb. So envious of the younger crowd now with all the options they have! Equipment is so advanced. Thanks for sharing!
Wow! I'm sure you have so many cool stories out there! The gear available is definitely getting pretty crazy! Thank you for watching!!
Enjoyed entire video. Bravo. Would you guys be willing to do video on what gear you took for trip? I’m looking to get into winter ski camping here in Wyoming. Thanks!
Not a bad idea Curt! I'll add that to the video ideas list! Thanks for watching!
@@meaningfullylostGohunt does gear lists and pack dumps a lot. If you can, watch one of theirs to get an idea of format. Doesn’t take too long and the nerds love it. Especially Backcountry minded folks, I think. Awesome video though made a sub
Great video guys!!! Loved it
Thank you Ellie!
This is insane. Did Granite Peak and Mt Peal last year and always wondered if people did much winter exploration back there. So cool!
Sounds like you had an amazing trip yourself! It's such a cool area
You guys are doing it real. Awesome work! Also makes me want to get into the amphitheater for a few days!
Thank you Scott! The amphitheater was a special place for sure!
Good for you guys. Great video, way to make it come true
Thank you Harry!
Thanks for taking me along. I miss skiing in the Beartooths. Pretty special place. 🤙🤜
The Beartooths are definitely a special place, glad you enjoyed the trip! 😄
🤙🤙
The Beartooths are amazing 👍
Yes they are!!
Super sick video. I own whistle pig korean in bozeman and would love to buy you guys some korean food if your in town!
Oh wow! Thanks for the offer! Any chance you can shoot me a dm on instgram?
That’s insane let’s gooo! Insane footage!
🔥🔥
Man, this video is amazing! I was born and raised in Billings and lived there until a handful of years ago when I moved out to the East Coast. One of my biggest regrets is not spending more time in the Beartooths and AB Wilderness. Thank you for showcasing this amazing place!
Thank you James!! The mountains will always be here for your next visit back home!
God be with y’all
🙏
How do you two deal with avalanche risk?
There is so much more that goes into our avalanche risk assessment than I can fit into a comment, I would mostly recommend taking a AIARE course. And the next big thing is just easing yourself into the backcountry, learn how the mountain shapes things and where the high risk areas are. The mountains aren't going anywhere! So never be afraid to back down from an objective, the goal is always to make it home safe and be able to ski another day.
I don’t get that you have so few subscribers this content is great. I live in Montana and love to see the mountains being recognized
Just getting started! I appreciate you watching and am glad you enjoyed!
WOW, what a trip, video 100% and music was good too.
Thank you Bill! Glad you enjoyed :)
Excellent job!
Thank you Lesly!!
You boys crushed it again! The cowboy camping did it for me 😂
Thanks Keegan!! The cowboy camping was so much fun! Didn't even get to fully include it, but we spent the first 3 nights cowboy camping!
You guys make a sufferfest look like nothing but fun! Great 2nd episode.
Thanks for the support!! Can't wait to see where we make it this season 👀
What a great trek. Now let's find you a sunscreen sponsor.
Can't argue with that one 😅
