Books and cross stitch are my lifelong loves, right after my husband. I've been reading most of my life and thought it was time to supplement my blog with video reviews. Occasionally I will also share updates about cross stitching.
15 January 2025
Because my reading plans for 2025 needed yet more books added!

December Pile of Possibilities Part Two
Maisie Dobbs!!! Ahhh I'm so so so happy you enjoyed it! She is such a unique character... these are definitely hard-boiled mysteries but I love the 30s inter-war England setting that adds a touch of "cozy" for lack of a better word. I just adore her. These are hard-hitting books and deal with some really difficult topics.
@@miriamelizabethreads I am so looking forward to continuing with Maisie this year!
I totally get it with Emma M Lion. The first volume was a 4 star for me, I found the second volume a lot more interesting.
SO disappointed about Sanderson's new book, I read several reviews just to see exactly what the content is. I'm not even going to bother with the Stormlight Archive anymore. I loved the original Mistborn trilogy and will still read some of his other works and standalones but I don't want to invest the time required to get through the SA books just to have to read all of that wokeness in later books. Still looking forward to hearing your thoughts though!!
@miriamelizabethreads I completely understand! He decided to set his legacy on fire, and if I hadn't already been invested in Stormlight Archive I wouldn't be starting it. It is so disappointing that he intentionally chose to light his legacy on fire and abandon the fans that made him what he once was. After I finish Wind and Truth, I am done with him. 😞🫤🫣
Wow Sanderson too. Woke to broke have people not realized this yet. So many companies and or places tried this and have backtracked because they see it will cost them more than they want. Wow disappointing
@@Veronica.Roni.V PRECISELY 🫣🫤😞😌
Lol, her husband's comment about being her research assistant. 😂 that's so cute.
Ugh i have so many books languishing in my Kindle collection!
@insearchofwonder I think we all do, they languish there, and I think it benefits Amazon due to how user unfriendly the UI is for anything remotely resembling organization.
Yessss 20:19 sounds so good
@@BookLoverAmanda thank you for the gift and it sounds amazing
In theory it’s free from nonsense 😂😂😂
Ayeeee so excited
Oooh, The Medicine Woman of Galveston would be great paired with the non-fiction book, Isaac's Storm by Erik Larson. 😬 This year, I want to finish the Six Wives series by Alison Weir which is very doable because I've only got one queen to go! I also want to finally read The Three Musketeers; I read The Count of Monte Cristo (for the first time) almost 2 years ago and LOVED it. 🤓 I also want to continue with the Barchester series from Anthony Trollope, I'm only 2 books in. 🙄 Do we have a schedule for Wolf Hall or nah? 📚
@Lu.G. We can schedule it any time after March, let's say? 🫣😀 I am leery of Dumas after Count, which I found too long and too petty. Issac's Storm, I need to add that to my list!
@@protagonistspub Ok, whatever works for you (for Wolf Hall) - no rush! You're right about _The Count_ being too long, it took me over 2 months to read it. 😬 Isaac's Storm is short-ish, just over 300 pages. So good, but heartbreaking. 📚
@Lu.G. You're know how RARELY I say this, but Dumas needed a strong editor badly! 😀😂🤣
@@protagonistspub 🤣 😂 😆
4:56 have you read any Francine Rivers books? I feel like she is one of the few Christian authors who stands out to me who doesn’t write predictable/fluffy Christian fiction books. She really hits hard topics - her books tend to be longer, too, which gives her time to really expand upon the deeper issues and complex characters in her novels.
No, I have not. I know they are very popular, but I have no interest. I know they are well liked, but if I am going to pick up a book of that length, I need to know what she believes.
As someone who grew up Catholic, I can confirm that Francine Rivers, although she isn’t Catholic, many of her books, if not all, align with Catholicism. I encourage you, as a sister in Christ, to remain a little bit more open minded. It’s not about Catholics versus protestants. It’s about sharing salvation in Christ. We’re all one body under Jesus & His Saving Grace - there’s Catholics who are saved, and also protestants who are saved. Catholicism and protestantism aren’t too different from each other.
@ My discernment has led me to my decision and I am at peace with it.
Discernment from who? The Catholic Church or from Jesus?
@@KatharineBoucher what business is it of yours? Thank you but I honest don't think my channel content is for you.
That wanting more feeling is probably what is keeping the rest of us reading the series. 😆 I love it! Is so fantastically written and the characters are all so individual and lovable in their own way. Pamela was something else for sure! Glad i read it, though.
I am very glad I read Pamela, even as I am still sorting through the "aftermath" 🤣
Loved this! I have to try out The Summer Queen.
@miriamelizabethreads an excellent choice! Eleanor and Henry's beginning, fiery, passionate, changed the world and the reason I fell in love with her writing.
ahh yesss The Woman in White and Dracula are amazing!!!
Live Not by Lies sounds so intriguing! Wow I need to read Miss Graham's Cold War Cookbook. My dad was 15 when the communist revolution happened - he still remembers it like it was yesterday. Growing up in Romania during Ceausescu's regime seems like something so far back in history... yet my dad (who's only 50) lived it. I remember telling him about I Must Betray You and he's like "that's historical fiction? this just happened" 😅 Ruta Sepetys is such a great writer.
@miriamelizabethreads She truly is fantastic, and I remember the Christmas Revolution. I was in college at the time, majoring in Poli Sci. I agree with your dad, felt contemporary to me. 😂 Miss Graham's is worth the read. I'm here when you need to talk. 🤗
What you said about many Christian fiction - agreed!! It's why I'm so glad I branched out and tried different genres. I grew up only reading CF and had some guilt when I tried fantasy for the first time, but I'm so glad I got out of my comfort zone. Now I know how many incredible books are out there and no they don't need to discuss faith to tell a powerful story.
@miriamelizabethreads I am so glad those comments in particular resonated with at least one other reader! 🥰🤗 Cannot remember if I said this in the video, but my view has always been that since we are created in God's image, all stories are about faith in some fashion. Even those that on their face are blatantly not, God sparked something in the writer to write that story. It could just be that book was the impetus for a reader turning back to God.
@@protagonistspub YES!!! I've always tried to put that thought into words and you worded it perfectly!! God is the master author and it amazes me that, being made in His image, we're also able to create magical worlds with our imagination and use language to evoke the strongest of emotions.
I dropped the ball on Dante myself, so I totally understand. 😐 I love Anne Elliot so much - can't wait for you to get to a certain part; I'm thinking if you did, indeed, read Persuasion in your youth, it will surely come back to you. 😬 And...you've done it again - I had to check my library to see if they had the Jean-Luc Bannalec series, which of course, they did NOT. Soooo, I grabbed it on Kindle. 🤓 😂 Thanks (?) for sharing. 🤣
@@Lu.G. 😂😂😂😂
Hey, Tammy! Good update.
@@TheNovelHoneyShelf-Essie thanks Essie
I love the father Brown series, I have never read the book but I am very interested on those
@@MadsHbooks the book is different than the series, at least so far, but the series is very faithful to the spirit and content of the books if that makes sense.
@ ok sounds promising
You kept me company this AM while having breakfast and cleaning! I'm excited that you are enjoying Mishelved Magic. It's in my TBR pile- I bought it a few months ago. When I finish Persuasion it will be next 🙂
@Dr.Monicalovestoread I, hopefully, will be finishing Persuasion today and then I am diving head first into Misshelved! I'm glad my ramblings kept you company 😁
Dracula! So good! It has been SOOO long since I read Woman in White, I absolutely need to re-read it. But I remember devouring it when I did read it.
The Hidden Hearts of The Gilded Age series in wonderful.
@Courtneyreadsalot I have one book left but completely agree!
Yesss Freddie and Grace series!
OH YEAH SHARON’S books! 🎉gotta read the do over!
Mimi and you will get along like peas in a pod!
Anne is PERFECT for the prompt!! How did I miss that! Great idea!
Many ways to coming home yesss
Veiled in Smoke is PERFECT for January and to start a series!
Still need to read The Well 😂
Nancy Mehl 🎉 yeah the cover is basic ain’t it 😂😂they’re very rinse and repeat sometimes. I have to take a break too from her sometimes.
It's very meh as a cover, and the glossiness doesn't help. 🤣🤣
LOVE that you did this video! Watching now!
I am going to catch-up on videos today and you're very welcome 🥰
The do over sounds so great 🫶🏻
@BeYOUtifulBooks It is funny, touching and has Mimi!! If you can handle some mild swearing and want to start the New Year off right, it is on Kindle Unlimited, as well as now being available in paperback at B&N.
@ yay I will add it to my KU TBR🥳 thanks!
Love this! I will be very interested to hear your thoughts on Redclyffe. The further removed I am from it, the more I can't understand why anybody loves it. LOL Let me be clear - there are definitely things to admire about it. I can understand reading it and being satisfied with the read. I think it's even worth discussion and analysis and some pondering. But loving it? That one I just can't wrap my brain around. What is there to love? I genuinely don't understand.
@insearchofwonder your comment is right above Miriam's, and I love the dueling perspectives! It beautifully illustrates that reading is intensely personal and every reader takes something different from every book. As soon as I find a hard copy, it will be land on my TBR.
@@protagonistspub 😂😂 We buddy read it and it really helped me to appreciate it enough to keep reading. If she hadn't buddy read it with me, I would have bailed!
@insearchofwonder I COMPLETELY got that impression from your review. 🤣🤣
Hmmm usually people bring their favorite books to the island, but good thought to bring giant tomes you haven't read yet! Plenty of new reading material, and so much the better if it's one you've been wanting to try but haven't yet.... you'll be forced to for lack of other reading material.
@@insearchofwonder well said on all accounts!
I didn't even think about using Anne of Green Gables for Amanda's prompt. I'm already reading it this month so that works perfectly. Thank you.
@@JaneReads Happy to help!
Love Veiled in Smoke!
Anne of Green Gables - great suggestion for the coming home prompt. I love that. I will keep my eyes peeled for Marie Bostwick.
Anne is one of those characters that are comforting and always remind me of home. Bostwick has this unique ability to blend emotional intelligence with charm and humor that draws you in while her characters mature.
I'm crazy and trying to participate in 8 yearly challenges. 😂😂
Such a great list!! Heir of Redclyffe is so wonderful, it's really hard to find physical copies of it!
@miriamelizabethreads I was shocked at how difficult it is to find a copy. Thanks!!
LOL nonsense happens in a cyclical nature and burns itself up. That's quotable right there! 🤭🤭This is such a great idea!
@insearchofwonder I wish I could take credit for it. 😁 Feel free to snag it, you can probably work some of your 40 by 40 books into it
@protagonistspub 50 by 50 sadly 🤣
I passed 40 a few years back!
@@insearchofwonder hey if I did it, it would be 60 by 60 and well, PASS 😂
That's a pretty bind-up of Austen's lesser works! Ooooh Winnie the Pooh day! 💖💖 My oldest son was given a Pooh bear stuffy when he was a baby and he still has it. So ragged but he loves it. He's sixteen years old. 🤭🤭 Very cool cookbook. Oh my younger son would love to know that there is a hot chocolate day. Great tag idea!
@insearchofwonder Hot Chocolate is one of those treats that always hits to the spot, much like a well loved Pooh!
Wow, that first Shirley cover is gorgeous! And I agree the one you got is.... well, not.
I wasn't familiar with Elizabeth Chadwick but as I'm sure you have guessed, I hopped onto Amazon to have a _look-see._ Two of her books, A Marriage of Lions and The King's Jewel, were only 99¢ so I purchased them. 😬 You know that thing I said about not being influenced by you in terms of purchasing? Yeah...strike that! 😆 🤣
😂🤣😅💀💀💀 I cannot stop giggling to myself.
"They're there, so I'm going to remind myself that they exist." I feel the same way about the depths of my kindle library waiting to be read. 😂
🤣the struggle with the invisible library is real isn't it? 😂
I am embarrassed to tell how many books I have on my kindle 😶 generally I only read my kindle when I get in bed and end up reading one chapter a night or less. I MUST do better. I would imagine 30 percent or more are books I got from free sites...click, click who cares what the book is about.... I mean FREEEEE 😂😂
@Veronica.Roni.V I'm right there with you, my total is high too. 🤭
That Ruth Winters book sounds really good and somewhat relatable. 😊
@Veronica.Roni.V definitely relatable 😉
Winnie the Pooh!! Your stuffy!!🤩 Love this video so much.
@miriamelizabethreads Thanks, Miriam 🥰 Pooh enjoyed coming out of the cupboard and showing off.
I love this, as I am definitely in _my Kindle era!_ 😆 *Murder in Stained Glass* sounds really good and the 3 book series is only $2.98, so I might have to grab it. 🤓 Thanks so much for sharing! 📚
@Lu.G. LOL. I have enabled you these 12 Days! Sorry, NOT Sorry! 😅🥰🤣
@@protagonistspub You *have* enabled me these 12 Days and I'm not mad about it! 🤣

I need to re-read The Woman in White! 😬Dracula is WELL worth the read, I agree!! 👏🏻 Love in the Eternal City is on my Kindle Wishlist because you really brought the hype with that one! 😂 😉 📚
@@Lu.G. I had to bring the hype, I own two different versions of a newly released book. 🤣
Love this video! Excited to read Love in the Eternal City. I will add on Miss Graham's Cold War Cook Book to my reading list. My parents are both Cuban and have been living in Miami since the 60s- Cold War era interests me. Happy Vigil of the Feast Day of the Epiphany ✨️
@Dr.Monicalovestoread As a child whose parents knew communism, I highly recommend both the Septys and Dreher books. They will give you hope for Cuba but in very different ways. Love in the Eternal City is all the things and I cannot imagine you not loving it! 🥰 Happy Vigil and Epiphany!
