    Hell yeah! Nothing wrong with touring on a Sporty. Actually you feel more alive, I really loved those bikes, the only limitation for me was going 2-up regularly. My wife loves to ride so we had to find something she was comfortable on. All that while I had to enjoy the bike for me. Through trials & errors we settled up on a 23 Heritage. This bike has the comfort for my wife, while letting me enjoy riding a motorcycle that’s not sterilized from the elements😎 your bikes look sweet!

    I don't know why people think Sportsters aren't long distance bikes. I rode thousands of miles on a 1960 Sportster in the seventies. The only reason I upgraded to a Panhead was most of my riding buddies were riding 74 ci Harleys.

    I remember we rode panheads from Maryland to Arizona,we were going to California but only made it to Arizona, we were 16 , 17 years old no money or maps and had a blast, worked side jobs all the way across and back, now that we are all old and have big dressers and all the riding gear I can’t get anyone to go anywhere, it’s sad , keep going and have fun

    It gets more interesting past the eight-minute mark in this video; more curves and nearly empty roads. This is our Rockies and if I lived there, I am sure I can hunt down the really good roads. I guess I am spoiled with 27 years of riding the Alps during my vacations, first for three weeks and as time went on and I got more vacation, six weeks per year. Now those are serious twisties going over mountain passes. Anyway, sold my motorcycle I stored in Europe last fall, so now I am left with riding the less technical roads back home. Looks like you had great weather.

  • @a.c.e.7568
    @a.c.e.7568 21 день тому

    Having done that exact route in a car back in 1986, I never gave it much thought. But are there any curves along the way as most of them are ultra shallow curves with plenty of straights in between. What about backroads off the main highway? I am looking for some serious twisties on much narrower roads. At 9:06 the bottoms of those sandals looks familiar as I have that exact same pattern on mine that I had made for me in a small town in Germany while on tour there.

      Hey Ace, thanks for watching. The first day between Calgary and Revelstoke didn't have too many tight corners. We took highway 1A as much as we could which was better than just taking highway 1 forsure. The Second day of riding (the next video) between Revelstoke and Castlgar had a ton of really nice curves! ua-cam.com/video/Q-Jo830EfN0/v-deo.html

    In a day where 800lb baggers are becoming the norm, there is alot to say about enjoying a smaller, lighter motorcycle. If your not making 200 mile trips on a regular basis, a Sportster with upgraded rear shocks and a set of soft bags can provide you a very enjoyable experience.

    You can tour on anything, just have to adjust accordingly, sure a big heavy bike will give you a smooth ride but a smaller bike is more fun at times

    After many years of being anti-Harley I bought a Sportster - '05 XL883C. I wanted an air cooled bike with forward controls (bad knees) and Harley was the only one that met that criteria. The Sportster is physically the largest bike I've had although I've had larger engines. I don't need to go fast anymore and I love the fuel mileage I get from the 883. The vibration is a little more than I would like at interstate speeds, but not unbearable and I prefer back roads anyway. I've done one 700 mile trip in a little over 12 hours on it and it was no worse than the Iron Butt rides I've done on Hondas. I've never liked the big heavy bikes - I've always said if I wanted a Gold Wing (or Road King) I'd buy a Miata (which I have - twice). To each his own, but for me I'll never need anything bigger than a Sportster. (And I'm not anti-Harley any more.)

    When I was young I used to "tour" / go on trips, on my Honda 175 Twin Scrambler, and then my Honda 350. Ride what you got. It helps to be young. You should show more of your bikes your riding, especially since your tag line is advertising riding Sportsters. I want to see them more. What year, model, features, etc...... Common man. There is no story here. Nice editing and sound mix. Need to make it a story.

    Great video! I had a couple Sportsters back in the '70s. Lately, I've been remembering how much fun they were to ride. Of course, part of that might be because I was in my twenties back then! 😆 Never did any cross country rides with them but did long local rides. 1000 CC iron heads with 4 speed transmissions weren't really conducive to racking up a lot of miles. I've done a lot of touring since then including many cross country trips but on big twin baggers. I miss those early days though. Maybe because the US population was over 100 million less people back then and things were different. Simpler, slower, more friendly. This video has me thinking I should pick up another Sportster and try to recapture those days. 👍
