Searching for Dartmoor Big Cats #nature #dartmoor #travel #cryptozoology #cryptids #adventure
Steve investigates an area where the hind legs of a horse have been scratched up. Similar things have been reported by horse owners in the area of the past few years.
Whilst filming this, a farmer told us of his recent sighting of seeing a large black tail poking out from a hedge.

Claire Casely investigates the grave of Kitty J. Kitty has a sad story that has largely been lost to history. Her surname J comes from her time whilst in a workhouse where their surnames with simply a letter of the alphabet. Claire finds signs of pagan offerings and of witchcraft. Could the Dartmoor pixies have been involved? Claire also talks about some of the various ghost sightings and other...

Steve searches for signs of magic on Dartmoor. He visits Wistmans Wood, Plymbridge Wood, Plymouth and the pixie cave on Sheepstor. Are they wiccan, pagan or something more sinister? Rituals are often very personal and to the average person, they mean seem evil. However, this is very often not the case. Steve find offerings from rituals and tries to explain the meanings. Everything touched is sh...

The Miners Arms, a unique 17th century pub and restaurant at the foot of Dartmoor. It has wood from a Spanish galleon in it's loft and a void under the bar containing thousands of oysters. The history of the building and it's features are enough to inspire it's own documentary. The hauntings are often and varied - a figure of man wearing a hat has been seen by staff on numerous occasions and it...

The big cats of Britain are bigger than African leopards, it is basically another species of panthera native to Britain. That's why everyone is so proud.
😅😅 😂
Interesting i tried to find the DNA proof on UTube but it seems to be only speculation . Labrador sized big cats are what people seem to say they see ? No dogs have been killed or humans not Evan on attack reported of any ?
Our government hasn't got the integrity to acknowledge that these large cats are out there
Feared by most if the locals as if this woods is so pretty in spring the whole place gets covered in bluebells and wild garlic just sad that the rope swing tree got infested with termites
That Sheep carcass was had by a Bird, probably a Raven or Buzzard, they always pluck the fur/wool/feathers out before getting stuck into the innards
I lived in the George hostel and one of the staff told me he was at the reservoir and a black cat walked out in front of him I believe him so they are three Paul ❤

Not sure If I walked past one of your cams around Christmas? Around the shillamill rail track?
Maybe - I did reccy around the bridge could find a spot but the cams werent too far away! Sadly nothing captured in a month so I'm guessing if something was there, it's moved - I see sightings have picked up a few miles away!
Steve does his own stunts - respect!
You should have seen him later... Crawling in the mud under an electric fence despite the farmer standing next to him telling him it's turned off!
@explorationsouthwest8851 hahaha
Great video nature at its best❤
Wanted to get closer but it was so slippy, plus I was with my 4yo lad - don't think mommy would have been happy!
Hi Steve, Where is the Plympton Quarry that you mentioned?
Its just of Drunken Bridge Hill... go through the woods and be careful not to fall in!
I am so sorry
The fake "footprint" needs better hoaxer talent. Not even close. Filmed cat is very standard, not a large domestic type one & probably not seriously feral (they often develop some Wild Cat similarities after a few generations). Usually impossible to tame down once feral, and as an invasive pest, best euthanised. And not crossbred, any big cats sighted are standard figments, an enthusiast condition infecting many social media types. Exotic domestic cat breeds might begin to appear (an interest situation), Bengal's etc. Something to seriously try to extinct is they do, and any cage trapping needs actual knowledgeable input BEFORE attempts. Done wrong they get wary, & that's then firearms/poison territory. Irrespective of delusions captured, trail camera footage is somehow often very interesting, and doing it right some genuine rare/unusual species might be encountered. Records over time are an interesting glimpse into the local fauna unavailable elsewhere.
As mentioned in the vid, the footprint was metres from the camera so fair to say the cat caused it... The distance between the night and day captured was a couple of miles with a lake in between... Safe to say it was feral? Interestingly, we were there due to sightings of a black cat which I think we've bottomed out... Not a big cat. Also interestingly... the cat hasn't showed up since although there's been a couple of sightings a mike in the other direction!
These magnificent creatures are being hunted. It is heartbreaking! Our government either hasn't got the integrity or is too lazy to acknowledge their existence. These species should be protected at all cost! They are very unlikely to be a threat to humans.
That Joel street is full of spirit I used to pick my grandad up from the pub next door at closing time every night seen loads of spirits Paul
We need to return here!
I was brought up in Plympton I am a royal blood line medum I have seen spirits in the hall trust me I have Paul none as cockney
Just like the Bigfoot in the U.S. how come nobody has found a dead large wildcat or a skeleton/bones?
True... it could be argued that there's literally so much bush and private woodland - if something did die, it would be stripped in a couple of days and no one would know! To make these videos - we go into areas with hardly any public access 🤔
@@explorationsouthwest8851 I'm surprised that there are areas like that left in Britain it being so small and has been settled for centuries.
We have whole forests like that near us!
@@explorationsouthwest8851 Well you can tell that I am not a Brit as I rarely leave my home in San Francisco! Cheers!
@@explorationsouthwest8851 Big cats are not difficult to locate, their absence is due to .... (fill this space). Evidence is obvious to competent observers. Who can tell fabricated footprints for reality UA-cam hoaxes. And trail cams should have located flocks of them if enthusiasts' enthusiasm has any factual basis. Slightly possible recent escapes of illegal imports excepted, none exist in the British wild. Plenty of other real rare animals exist in Britain to film that are real and interesting. Which none of the bigfoot/cat etc cult seem to show encounters with.
I really enjoyed filming this such a fascinating placd
They once caught a puma in Scotland and named it felicity, so they are out there.
Keeping our religion alive
Absolutely amazing video buddy thank you for the time and effort and making it and showing his amazing places
Cheers! This video took 5 trips out there!
Hi Steve , just over 12 months ago I was driving up from Plym Bridge towards Wrigleys in the early hours. In my headlights I spotted a large cat about to drop down over the bank onto the lane. As soon as my headlights hit it , it turned 180 degrees and sprung out of sight. It was definitely not a deer or fox , but what suprised me most was the reaction speed of it. I would estimate the size to be that of a lynx or caracal.
Obviously I can't give out the locations, however your sighting would make a lot of sense! There's been a couple of other recent sightings in that general area! Oddly, we were out today setting up cams and filming the next video, and saw something black in a field - sadly we weren't quick enough out of the car with a camera! They're definitely out there!
I have also seen a black leopard 10 years ago .only 20 feet away in day light .it was walking along a corn field when you see something like that in real life you are just in disbelief of what is in front of you. I have also seen some very large feral cat's I'm talking over 4ft from head to tip of tail @@explorationsouthwest8851
Well hard ! Ive gone looking for the devil, come ere me ansome an give is a slap ! Proper spooky pub the Miners is.
Thank you for this beautiful video ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
Claire is so knowledgeable about Dartmoor psychogeography and folklore! Always really enjoyable to hear her talk. 😊
A few of those coins are from me, and when I did there was fresh flowers infect was surprised there wasn't any in your visit. the background music sounded similar to a song called Lady Jay by Wishbone Ash which tells the story of Kitty J
I've been there a couple of times and seen flowers and quite elaborate offerings! I've heard that the coins may eventually be given to charity - so it's a kind gesture for Kitty and for the vulnerable.
I've been there a couple of times... and never thought to look around! Very interesting :)
Bonjour. That's amazing. Your video, of course but what they have done. I live south of Loire-Britanny. We have some stones. But nothing like that.
You found some of my offerings, thank you for being respectful and putting it back as it was, and also the non judgmental nature of your videos ❤
Thankyou... it's a really interesting subject ...I've just come back from some filming where we found some interesting things - I've introduced a new presenter - she really knows her stuff!
What a lovely video. It looks like the collection of items were offerings as you said. Shells are usually to do with the moon as well as the spirits of the sea which I would call the undine but there’s many names. Offerings I leave are similar and usually items that you feel drawn too, keep for a while and use in a ritual and then give as an offering when are ready to give it back. You never know what might appear to you when leaving an offering 😉
Nice little mixture of locations there,I was only in the fort the other day and something strange happened at the end of long tunnel
I filmed that part ages ago and didn't quite know what to do with it! I've been in there several times including the spiral staircase building and the now blocked up tunnels - very spooky! What happened to you!?
@explorationsouthwest8851 appeared to be hit with a stick,I thought it was my mate messing around but when I turned around he was way down the passageway
I remember you now. From when you were waiting for the train to take a video of it
I do know you should not disturb any of the objects that you're finding as they are cast. They are imbued with energy, some positive, others not so positive.
These objects are often near paths and points of interest - it's inevitable that someone at some point will come across them... although point taken!
You've got a great film. This is the first one I've seen. Very interesting! I agree with you about there being big cats in the UK. We have so many areas of thick vegetation in our countryside it is easy for them to hide and stalk prey. I'm only surprised that not more is being seen in our urban areas as is the case in other countries.
Very true, although to be fair, there has been a couple of sightings on the outskirts of the city late at night... You'd hope however, some doorbell footage would come to light!
Why would you expect them to be seen in urban areas when nobody seems to be able to get decent footage in the countryside? Other countries actually have stable breeding populations of native big cats, where people in the UK are just hoping to see freak occurrences of escaped zoo animals.
Is a 'postbox' the same as a letterbox?
Yeah, like a geocache... A small hidden box when people can write their name to show they've found it. They're all over the moor!
@explorationsouthwest8851 Cool! You should do an episode on that 🤓
That's a great idea! Found some in some really interesting places... as well as random QR codes...
@explorationsouthwest8851 sounds cool, would like to see that!
Good stuff - although Wheal Betsy isn't the only remaining example of an engine house on Dartmoor. There is one at Canonteign on the eastern edge which has been converted to a private residence. The chimneys and house are next to the road there.
I did not know that! Very interesting 👍
Don't know if distubing them is a good idea!?
That's a good point! However, I don't think any of the things we find are evil... but i take the point, i've been told carrying some sage is a good idea. This issue is, is that we come across this stuff when making other videos so were a little unprepared.
They do a great sunday lunch - gonna be looking over my shoulder next time I go!
that's a house cat? lol
Looked pretty big, I was stuck in traffic for a while which then suddenly started moving - posted it for opinions!
@ it’s clearly below grass level….
Why show a blatant house or feral cat?
Because we were bought to the area aft r a sighting... Turns out that sightings is likely a result of seeing the feral... Also asks an important question whether the big cats legacy has been passed on through cross breeding with domestics....
The only spirits there are the ones in the bottles🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🤭
Love it! They e place has never been investigated before - a rare find! It's got so much history - I'd love to go back and spend longer - who knows - might get that holy grail footage 👍
If your are still big cat spotting I might have a good place for you to look at. I was walking through some woods in Dartmoor for about 40 mins and I wanted to go through some off the trail paths. But when I did I hit a dead end, I turned around and heard a very deep growl coming from some bushes next to me, I froze still and then I saw something dark and big move in the bushes so I sprinted away because I was absolutely terrified. When I got home I UA-cam big cat growls and the one that sound like the one I heard was a jaguar. I looked online and people have been spotting these big cats north Dartmoor but I was in the sound in a woods called Cann Woods. Its not a guarantee that there was a jaguar but its my best guess to what I heard and saw.
I heard about a sighting in Cann Woods the other day... The feral cat that was recorded isn't appearing on cameras now so may have migrated that way as it's not a million miles away! I'm trying out a hunting tar liquid so yes, still out looking!
Enjoyed the video. Thank you
Cheers... We plan to go back and spend longer there - maybe even bring a medium!
Great vid mate
We'll hopefully venture upstairs next time! 👍

First, a bunch of hype about these glorified little black mouser kitties, being made out to be black panthers, running around in Great Britain, and now its bigfoot is also running around in Great Britain?! Absolutely ridiculous, crackpot nonsense, 😂😂😂😂!!
This story made it onto National News - thought it was worth covering!
They could have made that into a lovely museum type place, other old forts have had this treatment and they're very well maintained, shame about this
Totally agree.... However, it is huge and I didn't have much time to explore - the money involved for the hand full of visitors and residents probably don't compute! The island is literally covered in bunkers and defence posts (all open!), so where would they start?!
I am afraid there is no evidence whatsoever that any of the large black and brown cats frequently reported are 'hybrid' animals. Such assertions are merely speculation on the part of people over-thinking matters.
It's still quite fun to research and activitley go looking - some farmers and ex big cat owners swear to me they've seen it! Anyways, it gets me out and you never know!
@@explorationsouthwest8851 I 100% agree it is an enjoyable hobby that gets you out and about and has much to recommend it. I used to have 100 cameras out in the field for about 10 years, and secured some interesting images and footage. But sadly i no longer have the time.
