Fall Gather at the Homeplace
October 27th, 2024. We're going to gather a small BLM allotment for the Homeplace today. We run "in common" with some of our neighbors on this allotment, so we'll need to be sure not to take any of their cattle home with us. Can't ask for better weather than this for fall gathers!

Pre Vac'ing Calves, Day 1
Переглядів 2 тис.21 день тому
We're going to start pre-vaccinating calves today. This means we'll get a set of cows in the corrals, separate the calves from the cows, and run the calves through the squeeze chute to give them their vaccines, The purpose of doing this is to minimize the chance of them getting sick when we wean them, in about two weeks. I'm on Henry today, and as always, he is eager to work.

Trapper John update and new shoes on Luke
Back in the eighties I got the John Lyons roundpen reasoning I think it was as a video tape and I learned a lot and it worked well for me. I really like Craig Cameron too, but what you are doing is the approach I like best I was always taught that the easiest way is always the best way.

How do y’all have enough money to do this lifestyle. Sad this has become a rich man’s lifestyle I only got my jugheaded old horse
Well I suggest you use a two-wheeled mountain bike with a horse. It is effective for herding and searching for cows .It has fun and beautiful angle in photography.

Was around some horses that were shire/thoroughbred with a little whatever. Made decent ranch horses, but were kind of like riding an upside down canoe down the rapids during fast work on broken ground, lol. Could really drop anchor roping pretty much anything though. Made miles and miles like nothing
Well done video. Enjoyed the vision from horseback. Love the life! 🤠❤️🇺🇸
@@lindawarrell4281 thanks for watching!
When you joked about putting people that have never ridden on horses that have never been ridden! I got a laugh out of that. I can appreciate your humor because I've been training horses for 25+ years. One of the reasons that I watch your channel, as I do other folks that train horses, is to learn how your train horses. This gives me the opportunity to add more tools to my tool box. Like humans, each horse is different. Horsemanship is a journey with no end. If some person says that he/she knows everything about horses, I get far away! Thanks for sharing your videos.
@@thomasosburn833 you're so correct! The best horsemen I know pick and choose pieces from everyone, and some of the worst horsemen I've seen "Do it this way everytime" I love the mentality of "adding tools to my toolbox" that's so true. Happy to have you riding along!
you are badmouthing the government while you are grazing government land for next to nothing.
I understand what you are saying. However, bad mouthing the government means that a citizen is not agreeing with the people that we pay to run our government, in my opinion. The land that is leased from BLM is owned by "we the people ". The greatest thing about our Country, is that we can voice our dislikes about the government because we have a Constitional right . We can disagree about things, no right or wrong, just different ways of looking at things.
There's lots that the government dose that I don't agree with. I won't try to hide that fact. As an American, its our duty to voice our opinions towards the government, thats how it become better. I also think some of the best people in the US have been or are government employees. I was telling a personal experience of one person's lack of drive to do anything outside of their bare minimum. I'm sure you've been disgusted with road construction, yet drive on the roads for next to nothing. Same concept.
@@roobucknevada4749 I meant to refer to the sage grouse not the lazy government guy. I agree with that, hell I would have fixed the fence without even being asked. I like the way that you work the cattle and have watched several of your videos and will continue to watch your videos. I worked at the Uc ranch just south of Mcdermitt in 1969 and 70. I switched to driving trucks in 1973 and retired in 2018. except for the money it's about the same, work 16 hours a day 6 days a week. Good luck and have fun.
@daciefusjones8128 I gotcha. I just feel that their has been alot of tax dollars poured into saving the sage grouse that could have been used better. Especially when it comes to blaming the cattle industry for their struggling, when it's being shown now that cattle grazing actually is beneficial for them. Thanks for driving truck all those years, I got a ton of respect for truck drivers, my Dad drove truck. Glad to have you watching!
