Is the 4K on the A7RV downsampled from 8K like the A7IV is with 7K?
Hi Osiris! Your eyebrows gave me a heart attack at the beginning! 👍🏼
@@OGCXRE haha sorry. Are they devilish?
Excellent review Well made. I hope Sony add USER LUTS function for this fantastic camera through a firmware update. Even latest A7CR has USER LUTS function which is a baby A7RV.
@@chethankumarh7464 thank you and it’s true. A Shame. I am more than content with the Sony lut. Enough for me to know where my exposure is at. I typically use an external monitor for professional work and have my luts there.
Did you use the kit lens on A7V? If not, what lens did you use?
@@browser37 I used a 28-135 f4 lens. 24-105 f4 would work the same.
@ thanks!
excellent test shots. Just what I needed to see to choose the one for me: Black Satin 1
Thank you so much for explaining it so well.
For stabilization are you shooting handheld or with gimbal ?
Thank you!
Your daugter kind of remind me of Ellie from the movie up lol.
I have a few A7s iii's and really want to sell one of them and get the A74 V because of the 5-axis stab.
Do yo still make videos or did you get out of cameras?
Thanks for writing. I will be making new videos this month. I have been working everyday. So hard to find time to record.
Great job! Good editing too. One question, what stabilizer/gimbal did you use? I also have an A7III and I'm undecided between the RS4 and the RS4 Pro. Is the RS4 ready for an A7III with a 24-70? Or will it be risky? Thanks in advance!!
@@CCRE-d8c it can absolutely handle the weight of that combo. I would buy the RS3 if on sale. If you can afford the 4 go for it. The pro version has some extra features that can be useful in larger productions.
amazing content man just found your channel you gained a new sub keep it up
Welcome aboard! Thank you. Will be uploading soon with new content.
This is super informative
Glad you think so!
That’s how to make a perfect demonstration! VERY useful! Thanks for your efforts and for sharing with us!
My pleasure!
Realtor here. Mostly have videographers doing my stuff but want to be able to shoot more on the fly since I have a photography background. Would love to be able to have both beautiful pictures and make video shooting betters Picked up the a7iv to replace my a7ii and then came across the a7rV immediately thinking this is a way better camera. Thoughts on the two cameras?
Thanks for the comment. I think for your use case the a7iv is perfect. A7r5 is better for commercial work.
8k?
6k sensor that shoots 4k
Very amazing 🎉
Thank you!
A7R5 semms very video capable cam
Very, I have been loving it so far!
This review was a beautiful experience....Kudus to your style...FLAWLESS!!!
Thank you so much!! I appreciate that.
Thank you so much for this video! I was really debating getting the a7R V … watching multiple reviews, but this was the best of all I must say and really sealed the deal for me! I’ve been working with an a7R III for a few years now but can’t wait to upgrade. May I ask what lens you are using during your FX9 comparison at 5:58
Glad it was helpful. It’s a joy to use. That’s my trusty Sony 85mm 1.8
@@ThatGuyOsirisRamirez Thank you kind sir! 🙏🏽
I've been searching all over UA-cam for a review like yours for days, lol. Quick question: I often shoot fast-moving cars and buses. Is the rolling shutter in 4K as extreme as everyone says? Also, when compared to the a7IV, which is my other option mainly because of the price point, I can overlook a lot of shortcomings.
Thanks for watching. It has rolling shutter yes. Even with cars only if you pan quick, rolling shots won’t be affected or gimbal detail shots.
Hi there, did u use slog for shoot? The slowmo is 60fps?
Hi, yes typically I shoot Slog and a mix of 24 and 60.
Thanks for the video. I'm looking forward to buying an A7RV with a 24-105mm F4 OSS lens. What setup that you use in 2:27 ? Just switch on the lens OSS and switch off IBIS in the camera (No stabilization mode)? Thanks!
Its a great camera. I used a 28-135 Sony and you have to turn on OS and stabilization. Joint effort for smooth as possible footage.
Thanks Guy, the review is more relevant then others i've seen, as a business owner. - how did you like the screen?
Glad you enjoyed it. Love the screen, best one outside of A1 and A9iii
A7IV or A7R5 best for video ?
A7R5 Hands down, it doesnt overheat.
GJ fam @ 1:58 what did you record that with. Looks great and was that 4k60?
Thank you. I believe my A7Siii and it was 60p
I like it .. ive been waiting for for a7v but doesn't look like its coming out this year ? .. I like the screen now its NOT the flippy floppy one that Sony has given us in recent years
That’s gonna be two years. First wave will be a7s and fx3
what i see that video quality didnt improoved since A7R2 . R5 better with 4k60 and 8k abilities but worse in colours in video. Yellowish colours of A7R2 in video in slog2 still better than R3/4/5. That was the reason why i traded A7R3 and went back to R2
I would disagree It’s a massive difference in video quality. 8bit vs 10bit autofocus in video and 4k60.
Dude, your one statement seriously helped me make a painstaking decision as i was thinking about A7 CR Or 7 RV. However, I have one question. I am going to buy the A7RV now but i am also considering getting the FX30 as another body to use for video. Is this a waste because the A7RV will pretty much work as both?
Glad my video was helpful. I would say if you do a lot of photo work it makes sense. The fx30 is a great cam b and even a cam a. I see it as a perfect cam b to my FX9 or A7siii. Fx30 is so cheap!
@@ThatGuyOsirisRamirez So i guess the perfect combo would be to buy the 2 of them!!!
Yes if you are a working pro. I am a big believer in having a cam B especially if you are charging.
@@ThatGuyOsirisRamirez I get to play with the 7RV Wednesday. Looking forward to that and then my decision will be made. 2 Cams in coming. LOL
@@jbrocas1939So which 2 cam you got bro ?
A7IV can overheat even in 30p 4k. How is overheat on a7RV? Is it safe to use 30p 4k?
Yes a7iv is problematic. A7R5 hasn’t overheated once.
This was refreshing thank you
Glad you enjoyed it!
Osiris for president! Thanks a lot for sharing mate!
Haha Any time!
I am so happy the algorithm recommended your channel. As a business owner too, i had to go through 5 content videos that was just reading the specs to me. I also found the fx30 having better saturation in the shadows making the image richer than my fx3. Then i read how the fx30 sensor is just a slimmed down version of the a7rV and we can definitely see how sick it is :) when you matched with an fx9 😅 does it overheat when shooting long talking heads ?
Thank you brother. It has never failed me once. Love this beast.
Great video…. It’s nice seeing the camera in use. Especially compared to your A cam
Thank you. Its a video power house. Just like the other sonys
should i replace my a1 with this and what about rolling shutter?
The A1 is an incredible camera. Sonys top offering. It really depends if you are using it to the best of its abilities. DO you shoot sports? DO you shoot fast paced jobs. Thats were the a1 sings. Also has some better frame rates video wise. If you shoot more commercial work, slower paced jobs, a7R5 will be a great choice, plus you will have extra cash to spare for a top lens. I haven't seen rolling shutter an issue for my needs, if I did more sports work, maybe it would be.
gear does matter, im visually impaired so i dont have 100% focus so i have to rely on my gear to be accurate with focus and im looking at getting the rV just for that reason.
It sure does, autofocus is a big deal and for sure you want the best combo, camera and lens to ensure you don't miss in critical scenarios.
i have a question, im looking for a new camera, probably this a7rv. actually i have a sony a7s II, do you consider that low light photos with sony a7r v its better than sony a7s ii ?? and video? do you think I notice a big improvement from a7sii from a7rv in general ?
If coming from the a7sii, then yes you will see a big improvement in video. A7s is the low light king no doubt, but a7r5 does a great job.
Thanks a lot for your answer, I really apreciate
Excellent review, very straight forward and honest!
Thank you!
Never saw you upload that A7siii comparison or low light to the A7IV??? That said, I have the chance to trade my A7Siii for an A7Rv. I do mostly video client work with some photography. I also have an A7IV, A1, FX30 and ZV-E1. I usually use a combination of my Siii, FX30, and E1 for video work. But my A7IV has missed some shots for photography and having a 4k60 with less crop has me thinking the RV can help. How do you find the low light performance is for interior shots at conferences or in buildings. I know I can trust my A7Siii.
Amazing man, you got all the good stuff! I have been overwhelmed with work. SO hard to film edit and upload. Thanks for following and supporting the channel. I need to get on that asap! I have used it for conferences in medium and small file settings and I have found it to be good enough. A7siii will always be king in low light but these other cameras are coming close. To your point of the a7IV, seems to be handicapped. I have also missed some moments with that camera. I will say this, I know the next A7s will have some ground breaking feature. I have the camera as well and I also wish to sell in preparation for the next. Sell now since it still holds value at the moment. For event coverage and video work, the a7siii is amazing.
what lens did you use on the black guy? the last two shots dont list which lens. also the wider lenses require a stronger filter while the 85 should require less strength for same effect is what I learned when researching these. so your favorite is a 3 on an 85mm... isnt that too hazy soft?
If I’m correct it’s the 35mm. I do love the three but I would say in that particular shot with the sun a lower grade filter is best. I kept the 2 and 3 for different situations.
What shutterspeed settings are you using? The whole footage looks terrible
Tell me how you really feel lol. Look these test wasn’t trying to make it look good. You can check my site for my professional work. I was just extreme testing the camera.
@@ThatGuyOsirisRamirez Thank you for the tests! I was actually looking into purchasing the r5 and the test was great for but I think you got the wrong settings, it has that akward motion blur all over
In which part? I don’t see it. I filmed a part running through a crowd for extreme motion and testing autofocus lock? Are you speaking on that part or the whole thing?
It states that it bakes grain into the highlights on Tiffen's website. What are your thoughts of this added noise to the image? As well as the saturation boost in red?
Hi Jarrod. I think if you are looking for some character. It makes these modern lenses have some charm. I love it.
@@ThatGuyOsirisRamirez I’ve actually recently found-through others and my own testing-that Black Satin and Black Glimmerglass are essentially the same thing. I’m not a fan of the lower strengths of these so I will test out low strength OG glimmerglass to get a nice rolloff/book that is not too strong. Take care! Nice bud!
Let us know how the testing went. Curious
@@ThatGuyOsirisRamirez maybe I'll attempt a UA-cam video for it haha. They should be arriving Thursday.
Great comparison. Imo the black satin is miles better.
Thank you. I completely agree.
This is the best review I have seen for the A7RV. The exact information I was looking for. Adorama has this camera on sale right now for $3498.00 so I'm seriously considering it.
Thank you! I tried to do some real-world test. Yeah, I am mad I paid full price haha. And if you have an old camera, they are giving an extra 300-400 off for trade in.
This camera is worth no more than $3k new, especially when you can pick up a used a7r3 for less than $1500.
It depends. If just photo I understand. But new video specs are greatly improved. For a hybrid shooter it’s a win.
@@ThatGuyOsirisRamirez a7r5 is unfortunately not a useable pro video camera, which it could have been if not for the cripple hammering.
I mean, I use it on professional shoots. It works well. Just depends the application. It’s not my FX9 but neither is my a7siii.
how do you feel about the rolling shutter?
I will say it's there, but if you aren't shooting action sports, it doesn't really affect my work. I do corporate work, product videos, weddings, brand videos, etc If you shoot fitness, sports, hand-held music videos then it's going to be more apparent.
Miami Heat 😂
🥵It was so hot 😂😂😂
@@ThatGuyOsirisRamirezi'm in 954, its always hot. 😂
These are not really a good test of primes versus zooms, it is more of comparison of look of different apertures. It would been more informative to say one has the possibility of a larger/faster aperture that comes with the primes but what does the prime look like compared to the zoom at the same aperture
Hi Bob. I don’t agree. People don’t get primes to shoot at 2.8. Sometimes you do but that’s not the main reason. They get them to shoot at 1.4. This video was specifically to show the visual differences between prime vs zoom lenses. I say this in the beginning of video. 2.8 vs 2.8 belongs on a lens comparison test for sharpness and contrast and with 40 lens out there that test will vary. I will leave that to a head to head lens test. That’s not what my video is based on. It’s based on the visual difference between a 1.4 vs 2.8. If you watch my other video part 1 I describe the use cases. Thanks for the watch.
Awesome video… love zooms
Me too! Glad you enjoyed hermano
Excellent comparison. I just have one question: What do you mean by Candela ? 2:55
Thanks John, it means HOT! Spicy!
